This place was a bit of a drive from downtown, KC (about 15 minutes) and I had my second thoughts as I was going down the highway, when I could have been spending more times at Grinders, but as I rolled up to this place, I had a serious Oh My God moment!! This place is huge, as in Target store huge...TONS of booze, wine and praise the lord BEER...suffice to say that if you can get it in the area, this place will have it..all the locals, regionals, impressive imports, warm, cold, cases, they even had nice Smokestack series glasses (no bargain at over $8, but I needed a nice souvenir from of my trip). Helpful and friendly staff on the floor and at the registers is always a plus. Beer Destination for sure, if in the general area this is a spot well worth driving a few extra miles for.

The vibe is pretty plain, as it is essentially a high and open ceiling, no frills warehouse with a huge selection of alcohol. The wine racks look nice and are set up with good symmetry. The beer selection fills up the entire back wall and the closest aisles. Quality of selection is fair to strong, with an aisle dedicated solely to imports, and another open section just for seasonals and bombers. Otherwise, the aisles contain everything from one brewer to the next in a reasonable order. Service is good and bad, depending on how you approach it. For one, I was stuck listening to someone talk different beers for a solid 20 minutes before I was able to make my selections and leave. On the other hand, it was quite nice having a large and friendly staff readily available to answer questions, talk beer, ingredients, flavor profiles, and pairings with. The service keeps it from being a quick stop shop, but could help you leave with a much better planned selection of beer. Considering the total selection and how much space it spans, its nice having a dedicated beer service person to guide you to the brewery or beer you are seeking. Selection was great. Most everything within Missouri's distribution system was here, perhaps with the exception of the more rare and hard to find beers in the market. They even sell Imperial Stouts and RIS's by the case if you are so inclined (they had cased of Ivan the Terrible, and Prairie's Bomb and Birthday Bomb). There were even a few beers that were only labeled for distribution in Kansas, a stone's throw away. Three coolers in the back are dedicated to a mix-six selection, and are ordered and labeled within their different beer styles. Unfortunately, the mix-six selection was lacking, and although kept chilled, did not have much of it within date.

Overall, a huge cavernous liquor store with a good beer selection.

The selection was pretty good, and I got what I was looking for - single 12oz beers that were out of my distribution. They did not have many limited release beers other than Boulevard, which is local. Plenty to choose from, but don't go in with too high expectations. I would say this is a mid-sized store, 12oz singles are kept cold, most beer is sold in 4 or 6 packs. Great displays for the local breweries. Probably a good place to stop if you are in the southeast KC area.

A massive size liquor store in south KC. Back portion is dedicated to beer. Had a decent selection of Founders, Boulevard, Firestone Walker, Bells, and Stone. Didn't have too many of the select/limited beers there. My other complaint was that a number of the beers i was interested in purchasing had an older bottled on date than some of the other smaller liquor stores around town.

Overall, lots of quantity with average quality.

Was surprised that this seemed so far south from the center of the city. Oh well, stopped on a Saturday night and selection was broad and good as expected. It had a nice singles area, although as in many places I wish I could have a chance at getting singles of everything. The beers were both refrigerated in the back and kept out to the south end of the store. Glassware was also available. This seems to be the place to stop in KC for a beer haul. $171 I spent despite not really planning to spend much more than $50 coming in.

Quality I'm putting as average. The bottle of Trappist Achel Bruin 8 was a skunked/otherwise bad bottle.

Service was nice and made sure to ask if we needed assistance. Always a plus. Of course, like almost always, we did not take up that offer, so we don't know how knowledgeable they are.

Amazing selection including a build your own 6/12/24 pack fridge with ~100 beers, several aisles of 6-sixers, and at least 4 rows (2 aisles) of bombers and singles of the quality stuff.

Guesstimating, I'd say they have somewhere between 400-500 beers. Hard to tell really.

Worth checking out if you're in the area.

This store is a little bit of a drive for me but not as far as the one on the Missouri side which is HUGE. This will certainly do for me though. The staff are friendly & they are more than willing to ask you if there is something that they can help you find. They have a "beer" guy & a "wine" guy to help you out w/ any suggestions or product detail. Usually more help than not & I've never had a bad experience going there. Reasonably priced & always get lots of the Boulevard Limited Release Smokestack series! Huge plus in my book. Lots of selection & I even found a few gems that I'll be purchasing soon. Overall, pretty darn good. Especially for Kansas! Prosit.

If i lived closer to this place i would only and i mean "only" go to this place. They have by far the largest selection i have seen in the kansas city area. I know some people are wine lovers but this place respects beer. Once you go the back third of the store you will know what i mean. The whole end of the store is dedicated to the beer and the people who love it. Almost anything you could want cold and ready; as well and three coolers+ of make your own-6. And if you don't find what you need in the coolers they have 4+ aisles of specialty single bottles and imports from other countries. Plus another reason to go the extra mile is that in Missouri they sell FOUNDER'S!!

I have been to KC twice and each time this is my favorite place to visit. It is by far the best beer store I have every visited: If Wal-Mart were simply an alcoholics supermarket, this would be the place!

Each time I go out of town I make a list of things I hope to find when there. The majority of things on my list are here, along with items that I had overlooked and was ecstatic to find.

While there, I am usually asked if I need any help several times and the staff is somewhat knowledgable of beer and beer styles.

I have and will continue to recommend this to anyone and everyone who looks to find a beer store that exceeds every expectation.

Highly recommended!

My "go to" place for beer in KC. Lukas (135th & State Line) by far has the largest selection of beer in the metro. They have a large selection of unique imports as well as most good domestic micros available to them. They have Bell's :) but no Dogfish Head. :(

I've had quite a few conversations with the guy that runs the beer section and he is very helpful. Best luck going in during the day on weekdays to catch him. I don't think he is around on the weekends.

Prices are reasonable but a little higher than some other stores.

I feel like a kid in a candy store every time I go, which is probably too often. :)
