Just Brew It is a first class brew shop. I have been going to Just Brew It for 10 months now, and I have never run into a situation where they didn't have what I needed. Before Just Brew It, I ordered from an online store, and the quality was just lacking (and spending 4-5 days in the mail didn't help!!) The new location is spacious and the micro beer selection is great. Ken, Walter, and Mike do a great job of running the place. I love to just go in there and shoot the sh*t with them. If you are a home brewer in Jax, this is your place (cause there isn't anywhere else anyway!! ;-)

Walter is an institution. Period. Get to know him and the other home brewers at Just Brew It (and CASK) and you'll be like family. The shop is conveniently located next to Bold City Brewery just off of North King St. & Roselle. Take King st. north till you hit Roselle, and turn right. It's just across the tracks on the right hand side.

Atmosphere is.... well, it's a brew shop. I put average because you don't go to a brew shop for atmosphere, you go for supplies and advice.

Service is... the service is great if you know the staff. Otherwise, expect to be treated like any other human being on the planet in a brew shop. Cordial and helpful.

Selection is... the selection in the store is actually quite good for the average brew shop. They carry just about everything you'd need from beginning to advanced brewing setups, equipment, supplies, ingredients and then some. It's fun for me to just wander around and look and wonder what people might need "that thing," or "that adjunct" for.

Food... they don't sell any food, and I didn't see that they carried any craft beers at this time.

Value... value is somewhere between reasonable to pricey depending on what it is you're looking at. Basic supplies are in-line price wise with sticker shock setting in on some of the more elaborate brew setups.

Cons: Check the dates yeasts and beer kits, watch hops pellets for signs of yellowing (age).

Been coming to Just brew it since its previous location on Cassat ave.

Very personable and helpful.. Once you get to know the guys there, they are like family.. willing to go out of the way to help or inform on brewing processes and recipes..

I recently finally joined up with Cask thru the location, a local homebrewers group for which is a great group of people equally as helpful and resourceful.

Great selection of ingredients and equipment as well.. Kegerator parts..accessories.. you name it.. they got it or can resource. Cheers

I am reviewing this shop as a home brew shop - not for the craft brew selection (not fresh, outdated, but okay variety).

The shop has a good selection of the home brewing equipment and can save you money on shipping heavy/large items. It is great to see it/touch it on some items in person if you are having trouble deciding online.

The customer service is always willing to help, answer questions, and is very knowledgable. (Walter is always patient and a big weatlh of knowledge!). I order alot of my home brew supplies online, but I still like to go here to shop in person and fill in holes in my inventory as the open up to save money on shipping.

I would shop here more often, but it's about 45 mins from my home. That is the only negative I can share from a home brew shop perspective.

This is the only brewing store in the jacksonville area. Thank God it's close to the house. This place has everything you need for home brewing. From grains, yeast, and hops, to every piece of equipment you can think of. The people that work there are very knowledgable and friendly. They even have a small craft beer selection. But when I say small, I mean it. I purchased a wort chiller and a few small items. I found this place to be a bit pricey compared to the internet, but hey, there's no shipping charge for me. Very good place. i will be going here again.

This is a very nice brew shop, if fact its the only brewer supply shop. I am not reviewing it for that. I reviewing it because they have some selection of beer in the corner. The owner is nice and friendly, Willing to talk. Has beer books, and beer mags.

Its a small beer selection, but he has terrapin, and a few others that are rarely seen around town. Beware of old beer though. Also get ready for sticker shock. Since its a small place one assumes he sells beer as a hobby, because you will not see a price.
Not only will you not see a price but in 3 visits he never gives you a itemized receipt. You have to watch what things cost or ask first. He sells most stuff about a buck or two higher than "local" prices, again one assumes to stay in business.

I have to wonder if he had some competition if he still be in business. Now that TW and others are getting in Bell's etc etc I have no reason to go back. Not recommended.

now for a brew store its ok, lots of old stuff though.

this store has a worthwhile selection of brews, but the big drawback is the age of the stock. if only more people bought beer there.... i actually spotted summer style beers from two and three years back, best by 2006 dates etc. so be careful to pick something reasonably fresh or at least something that might have aged well. there are no prices on the shelves or product, so that can be a little awkward too.
the staff is friendly enough, but if you're not a current homebrewer you might feel like a bit of an outsider.

Like any homebrew supply store, when you go in to look around you are pleasnty surprised by some of the things they have and just as surprised by some of the things that they don't. I have been very happy about thier selection of hops and yeast, and they seem to do a good job of rotating stock so that it is usually fresh. The first time I went in I was dissapointed to find that they didn't have bulk extract, but I found out that they carry 15 kilo containers of extract that are cheaper than the bulk stuff I used to buy at the homebrew store in St. Pete.
The biggest complaint that I ever had about the selection here was that for a long time they didn't carry any Belgian specialty malts, but they do a good job of trying to constantly update thier selection and they recently started carrying the types of malt that I wanted.
As far as customer service goes, they couldn't be better. Both of the guys that work there are knowlegeable and very willing to answer any questions. Walter has more than once stayed after the store was supposed to close to grind malt for me even though he had another job to get to. That sort of service shows how much these guys care about their customers and homebrewing.

Update - They recently (June 07) moved about three blocks away to a bigger space on the corner of Shirley and Cassat ave. They have a lot more room and will hopefully expand selection accordingly. Micro and import beer is available at the store too now, I don't know what the prices are like but the selection is interesting, as one would expect at a homebrew store.

Just Brew It off of Blanding Ave in Jacksonville is a wealth of information on homebrewing and a great place to pick up hops, malt, brewing kits for the new brewer, wine making supplies, books or anything else you might need for your homebrew hobby. One of the things I really liked about this brewstore is the helpful staff. Walt the instore sales person during the day not only can help you out with any questions, but also is the president of a local brewers club called the CASK. (http://www.thecask.org/) They hold monthly meetings at 7 Bridges on the Southside of Jacksonville. They are held the 2nd Saturday of every month @ 6pm. The meetings are on home brewing and seminars on how to get started homebrewing. So if your looking for a good local brew store in the Jacksonville area hit Just Brew It you wont be dissapointed.
