I had a couple free hours on my last trip to St. Louis, and was lucky that Square One was only a 10 minute walk from the hotel.
Stopped in the bar for a couple quick pints, didn't have time for a full meal.
A classic old building, lots of brick and woodwork. Large arched mirror behind the bar. Warm, cozy, very old school. The bar is up front, and the eating area/trestaurant is in the back. The small hallway separating the two houses the brew equipment, and you can view through glass windows.
On tap they have only their own beer (no Bud Light here!). A large selection was posted on the chalk board, with regular, seasonal, and coming soon offerings. I had to try the Park Ave Pale Ale on cask, and the Anniversary Ale (a combination of various malts and hops, but not within one particular style). Both beers were quite good.
Bartender was friendly and knowledgable, and offered a sample before I ordered each beer. Being mid-afternoon, was lucky to catch Happy Hour (3.25 for a pint).
Great place, on my "to go back to" list.

Located near Lafayette Square Park, this brewpub is in a nice neighborhood, with lots of small shops. There is a medium-sized bar in the front and reasonable seating in the back. We ate here on a Saturday afternoon. The beer selection was varied, with plenty of British-style brews, along with a Dopplebock. I had a sampler and a brown ale, and all of them were well made and tasty, although not particularly remarkable. The food, however, was exceptional. Interesting choices, very well prepared, and all solidly good. The service was friendly and well-timed (not to slow and not too fast). Great place.

Can't believe that I have written this review yet given how many times I have eaten dinner here. Square One has the feel of an early brew pub. There is a grand, wooden bar in the front barroom with the main dining room towards the back. There is a nice courtyard for the summer months and the upstairs is an event space, although I have never been up there.

The food is where Square One really shines. Both the quality and variety of food offered is very good, as well as reasonably priced. The beers brewed in house are also pretty good. A few of the brews stand out, their maple stout comes to mind immediately. The staff has always been good with courteous, timely service and I have never had a negative experience here.

Overall, Square One is a very good restaurant with a solid selection of quality beer brewed in house. The best way to describe it on the whole is a great place to take your family. Whenever my parents visit me in St. Louis, Square One is always in consideration for dinner.

Their beers are good without being great (with one or two exceptions), the great thing about this place is the sandwiches. Had one of the best reubens I've ever tasted here.

Large patio to enjoy a lengthy list of their brews which includes rotating seasonals. Beer has always been decent, their maple stout sticks out to me as an outstanding beer. Food has always been pretty tasty.
