Golden orange with a soft bubblebath-head.
Nose is slightly sour with plenty of honey, touches of candied orange, lemon, bread and some earthy notes with just a hint of fresh grass at the back.
On the palate it is quite alcoholic with some yummy yeastiness and spice, med carbonation and a good long finish. Balance is a little out with the alcohol a touch too prominent. Overall a good beer.

A - Pours a slightly cloudy golden colour with a thin white head

S - Get some apricots, sweet candy, lots of strong spice and a hint of banana

T - Similiar to the nose, Loads of spice, sweet candy, citrus along with a nice slightly bitter finish.

M - Medium bodied with medium to high carbonation

O - Great effort for a Belgian strong ale. Loads of spice and flavour that is balanced nicely by a slight bitter finish

Bottle: good solid brown 330mL bottle, stylish label. A nice package.

Appearance: pous a cloudy deep gold colour with a small 1cm foamy head. A little underwhelming for a Grand Cru.

Aroma: now we're getting somewhere. Belgian-yeast nose, spices and honey.

Taste: decent spicy sweetness at the front, rich dried fruit character. Alcohol whack at the back.

Aftertaste: lingering bitterness, with a slight alcohol fug.

Mouth feel: medium in body with a moderate amount of carbonation, which took me by surprise.

Overall: a very nice tripel. Not a bad price for a Belgian ale - definitely up to standards for an Australian version. Some Belgian-produced tripels are a similar (and in some cases lower) price. I'm not sure this one is that much better than the real deal. At AU$75 a case from the brewer (2012) or approximately $90 a case retail, that's definitely something to keep in mind.

One from danieelol off the wants list. Excellent!

Slightly hazy golden giving it a glowing amber appearance. Head is thin and struggles to stick around for long. Swirling brings up a thin head but it fades quickly again. Darker than a typical trippel though not sure that is the target style here. Ok, apparently it's a mix of trippel and strong golden.

Considerable Belgian yeast character without getting too spicy or phenolic. Clove is also quite prominent. All this and fairly high abv with no hint of alcohol heat on the nose. An interesting mix and very well done, just not quite pushing my buttons the way I hoped.

Seems to me there is a third style thrown in. Barleywine. The malt character hits hard. Not in a typical barleywine way, but if you mixed one with a couple of lighter Belgian style beers ;)
The overall taste character does have some spicy Belgian yeast to it but the strength of the malt quells that character. The hardest thing for me to understand is how they do it with such little sweetness and color?

Well, what a beer. All things considered I'm surprised how quick I finished this. I really am a big fan of Murray's. Their willingness to experiment and attitude towards brewing are a real asset to the Aus craft brewing community (and beer drinking public). While this one didn't quite work for me as I would have liked I wouldn't hesitate to try another of their beers.

Bottle at Beer Deluxe. From notes.

A - Poured hazy golden. One finger of white head with good carbonation. No lace and a film of retention.

S - Citurs, lemon, sweet spice, light malt, really aromatic. Peach and fruitiness.

T - Lemon, citrus hops. Light malt. A little spice and smooth fruit with lot's of orange.

M - Good carbonation, medium body and light sweetness in the finish.

O/D - Pretty solid. Tasty stuff. An interesting take on the Triple.

Appearance - Poor head retention, high carbonation, poor clarity, medium amber colour

Smell - Fruity, banana, cloves, citrus fruit, candied orange, light alcohol presence

Taste - Citrus fruits, lemon, orange & grapefruit flavour. Slight spicy hop profile. Tangy finish

Mouthfeel - Light body, good carbonation, slightly bitter finish, lingering warmth due to moderate alcohol presence

Drinkability - Summer sipper, pleasant well balanced

Overall - Good beer, drinkable, lacks complexity of Belgians. Good on a summers day

A - Huge, foamy white head caps an orange body and then reduces down to a thin, creamy sheet. Streaks of foamy lace.

S - Belgian yeast, vanilla, kumquat, orange, clove and some booze.

T - Sweet, musty, yeasty flavours of citrus and honey. Nice balance but somewhat restrained. Could have been a cracking beer if the intensity of flavours was lifted. ABV well veiled.

M - Tart and fizzy. High carbonation. Light to medium bodied.

O - A nice stab at a tripel from an Aussie brewery.

The cork removal process was an absolute bugger just like the Anniversay Ale!! Very expressive and perfumed nose; fruity esters, sweet grapefruit, soft floral characters, and perhaps a faint sugary note. The flavours are a bit more straight forward and the palate, in the early stages, is driven by a sweet malt that transforms into fruity flavours that progressively thicken. Finishes with a touch of heat and bitterness that appears alcohol driven, but that said the near 9% weight is well managed. To my tastes has more in common with the recent double IPA style releases from fellow Oz micros, rather than a abbey tripel. Whatever, I think this beer is interesting and well worth a try.

330 ML poured into a tulip

Appearance- poured a clear, honey gold color with a short lived white head. Good retention and better life in head when swirled.

Smell-- Toasted bread with banana, clove, spice and a bit of pepper. Good nose but a little soft.

Taste-- Stale, salty bread. A Little prickly on the tongue.

M-- Fairly carbonated, medium to full bodied even with the higher carbonation. A lot of bread and in the background white grape and peach as well.

O-- Not bad, would consider buying again. Got better as I got further into this. Well hidden ABV and pretty tasty really. Good effort at a Belgian style. Give this a bit of time in the cellar and will be rewarded with a nice beer.

Hmmmm - one that I really wanted to like, having bought a case.

Light amber/beige colour, slight clouds.

Pours with initial one finger head into an oversized wine glass, quickly fades. Too quickly. Little head, no lacing.

Aroma of a whole lot of elements, that do not integrate, shall we say, bubblegum, biscuits, apricots, and an overall sweet sensation.

Warmly alcoholic for a Trippel (but is it really a trippel?)

Drinkability/Overall - hmmm. here's the problem, I have had this now for nearly six months, and the dullness in overall enjoyment is starting to take hold. Four more bottles to go. Need to drink these colder, but a Summer Refresher it aint!

Sorry Murray/Shawn, I don't normally need to wash one of your finest down with a glass of water, I honestly expected it to last, given the ABV.

EDIT

Called the Brewery, and to their credit, they sent me another four pack, Shawn had not heard of this problem before.

Gets stranger, as the next (old) bottle I had - for old times sake, was fine. So that's two out of ten (at least) were crook, so some unwanted bottle variation going on here..

Pours pale amber with a lasting white head.
Nose shows doughy yeast, light spicy phenols, orange peel, passion fruit, white wine and wheat. Very expressive, seems to be a mix of a triple, a witbier and a new world pale ale.
Very similar flavours but the alcohol is a little rough and overbearing. Quite sweet as well.
The carbonation could be a fair bit higher to cut out the sweetness for a drier finish.
Very interesting beer, very light and summer, although the alcohol needs to be curbed.

Drank from my De Struise Tulip

A - Pours a hazey golden colour with Orange undertones. The head is with and small, it reduses to a film and laces.

S - Plenty of spice and cany sugar from the glass and some marmalade.

T - Heaps of spice up front followed by some tangerine flavours that are still spicey, the sugar is there in the background and it finishes with a real zing.

M - Medium body and carbonation.

D - I think this is the best attempt at a Belgian style in Australia. It trumps the Abbey Ale from squires.
