A Bavarian specialty of dark colored, top fermented yeast beer with typical yeast cloudiness. Its unmistakable and well balanced taste is due to an excellent choice of dark aromatic malt and goes very well with traditional Bavarian dishes.

16.9 oz can best b4 date 08/2024 into a tall Hefe glass.
L: SRM 7 Pours lightly yeasty rich dense-looking ruby caramel color that is lighter on the edges, a good amount of steady carbonation bubbles, has a 3/4" off white puffy head that recedes slowly to a skin, very light spotty lacing.
S: Brown bread, caramel malts, banana bread, honey, toasted grains.
T: Dark crusty banana bread complete with distant spices, dates, raisins, ripe dark fruits, distant grains, some sweet citrus, a suggestion of apple, light buttered toffee, yeast and wheat notes arise with warming, it is lightly rich overall.
F: Gently brisk then very smooth medium to med-heavy bodied feel with a long, fairly drying soft finish.
O: Nice and malty. Pure-tasting ingredients. Expertly balanced. This is one of the finest examples of this style. It is IMHO world-class in its style.

Appearance: Pours a mostly clear (80% clarity) deep and dusky brown/bronzed color with a massive off-white head. SRM of 18. (4.00)

Aroma: Strong aromas of wheat and yeast upfront. Some sweeter orange, cloves, and bread spices underneath. (4.25)

Flavor: Moderate flavors of wheat and yeast upfront. Bready and yeasty. Some hints of caramel, and earthy notes. A dry finish. (4.25)

Feel: Medium to lighter bodied, strong carbonation. Yeasty, leans clean and dry.

Compared to Weihenstephaner Hefeweissbier Dunkel 12/2023: Pours identical. Stronger aromas. More chocolate, caramel malts. Less yeasty and bready. Cleaner.

Compared to Andechs Weissbier Dunkel 1/2024: Pours lighter, similar head. Stronger aromas. More caramel, chocolate, toffee. Less bread, yeast, and spices. Smoother with less carbonation and yeast. Winner: Tucher slightly.

Overall: Pretty decent Dunkelweizen. Not quite as dark or sweet as I'd expect. A bit lighter, cleaner and yeasty. Drinkable. (Rating: 4.14)

On tap at Beef and Brew in Geneva, NY.

This one pours a golden caramel brown color, with a small white head, and lots of lacing.

This smells like banana bread, baking spice, clove, a touch of dark fruit, and some nice breadiness.

This has a wonderfully wheaty and malty profile that really invokes a toasty dark banana bread, with light spicing. There’s a creamy almost vanilla-like note, too.

This is creamy, but light on the palate, with a nice drinkability.

I really wish I saw this style more often. This is a great example of it.

Dark brown hazy color, with a huge creamy off white head like ice cream. Great retention.
Not getting much aroma. Some raisin and prune and brown bread.
Banana bread, some vanilla, clove, prune, raisin, hay. Super creamy and fluffy mouthfeel, though. Sheesh.

A good Dunkelweizen. Not blowing me away, but not bothering me, either. Maybe that's all fine. Dat mouthfeel, though.

A: Pours a dark amber brown. A dense tan head forms with good retention and lace left left behind.
S: A simple, but enjoyable aroma. Banana esters, light spicy clove, and baked brown bread.
T: Like the nose, the banana esters and light spice are up front. It becomes like chocolate covered bananas after a while. Baked brown bread mingles in there as well. Love the balance, its pretty classic for the style.
M/O: A medium body with moderate carbonation. Just enough crisp bite, but becomes ultra smooth as this breaths. I can come back to this with ease.

I always love a good Dunkelweizen but they are hard to come by anymore. Glad I came across this. Well done, and spot on for the style as far as I'm concerned.

Pour is a slightly murky deep amber with a huge, pillowy, creamy cap of every so slightly khaki foam. Great retention.
Nose is clove, banana, hint of toasted malt / chocolately
Taste follows. Banana and clove of a hefeweizen, but a little more played down as some light roasted malt comes through.
Smooth and easy to drink.

Pretty classic Dunkel here, which is what you'd expect from a Bavarian import. Slight banana notes, decent head on the pour. The color is a bit lighter / light-brown than I'd normally expect. Feels a bit more carbonated than other variants in the style. But, really, this is nit-picking -- it's right in that "hey, you know what I want right now? A classic Dunkel" wheelhouse.

Brown color with light passing through the center. Moderate off-white head. Predictable to lighter lacing in the form of random spots.

Brown bread smell with light banana in the background. No notable bitterness.

Relatively dry flavor with an expectedly lighter body. Some chocolate to the tongue. The banana is present but not lasting. The finish is more of the same, leaving a shorter aftertaste.
