Very Good
Tucher Dunkles Hefe WeizenTucher Dunkles Hefe Weizen
Notes: A Bavarian specialty of dark colored, top fermented yeast beer with typical yeast cloudiness. Its unmistakable and well balanced taste is due to an excellent choice of dark aromatic malt and goes very well with traditional Bavarian dishes.

500ml can with a code on the bottom of the can that I cannot decipher. Cloudy brown with a large head from an aggressive pour. Aroma of cloves, caramel, and banana. Smells like an interesting desert. Flavor has more phenols than esters. Rich malt with dark wheat bread notes. Slightly sweet. Light body and nicely carbonated for a weizen. Not too sharp but still lively. I really enjoy this beer. Great to have this option available.

Can into pint glass. Pours a slightly hazy brown (SRM -ish) with a creamy light tan head. Initial impression is bready malts, banana, and clove. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and smooth. I'm an IPA guy - bought this on a whim. It's actually pretty good.

Poured from 500mL can into my BeerAdvocate teku.

Appearance: nice medium brown hue with a moderate haze and a finger of pillowy tan foam atop. A nice looking dunkelweizen.

Smell: lightly malty, wheaty, caramelly, and nutty, though without a ton of the phenolic aromas I normally associate with the style. It's nice, but not entirely what I'm looking for.

Taste: wheaty with a subtle chocolate element; like the aroma, still not super phenolic, but there's a nicely soft banana-ey character here. It's not strong, but it's interesting, and it works for me.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and a pretty good creaminess. I like it.

Overall: a good dunkelweizen, though I do wish it had just a little bit more yeast character, particularly in the banana zone.

0.5 L Can
Glass: 0.5 L Hefeweizen Vase
Pouring Temp: 45.5 F

Look:
Cloudy and mostly opaque mahogany to chestnut brown. When held to a light, the shadows of my fingers are barely visible in the narrow part of the glass. 2-finger creamy head that is somewhere between cream and beige. Decent lacing.

Smell:
Strong bananas with brown sugar and Ceylon cinnamon. Moderate clove notes. There is a sweetness that reminds me of … vanilla? Whiffs of chocolate and wheat bread.

Taste:
Bananas and brown sugar start the sip and are joined in short order by wheat bread and chocolate notes. Cloves make their appearance mid-sip and stay through the finish, providing a nice counterbalance to the bananas and brown sugar. A vague earthy note can be detected.

Feel:
Soft but well-carbonated. Body is medium-light.

Overall:
A tasty and eminently drinkable Dunkelweizen. The bready malts (and the chocolate notes) are understated compared to other Dunkelweizens but they are present. This is a fine Dunkelweizen to have on a warmer evening or even day.

Undecipherable canning date; drank 5/29/22 @ the Yarchives.

Mostly opaque dull orange/purple appearance.

A rough pour yielded a HUGE khaki head; a thick curtain of lace.

Plum, mild clove & faint banana notes in the nose.

Medium mouthfeel.

Banana, mild clove & faint plum flavors; good, but a bit too mild. It'll do in a pinch.

Poured from a can into a pint glass
Appearance – The beer pours a clear golden amber color with a one finger head of puffy white foam. The head has a good level of retention, fading over time to leave a moderate level of foamy lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the brew is very strong of a tropical fruit aroma with tons of pineapple, mango, and tangerine. Along with these smells comes notes of melon and lime as well as a decent showing of a grapefruit and earthy hop. With a touch of mustiness as well as a bit of peach and apple, a very sweet and inviting aroma is produced overall.
Taste – The taste of the beer starts out with a nice tropical fruit (tangerine, mango, papaya, pineapple) and light bready like flavor mixed with some grapefruit and light earthy hop. As the taste advances the hop gets stronger all while the pineapple and mango fade a bit. At the same time other flavors of a light grapeiness as well as a bit of apple and an increase in the tangerine and some orange flavors, come onto the scene, and with a little bit of herb, one is left with a nice, still citrusy, and decently hopped taste to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the brew is medium in thickness and creaminess with a carbonation level that is rather low. Overall, rather nice for the style.
Overall – A rather tasty brew overall. I would certainly get this on more routine occasion if offered.

Can

A mildly hazy brown with a dense off-white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is a nice blend of banana, clove, bread, a little bit of caramel and a nice toasted wheat note. The palate opens with the classic dunkelweisse flavors with banana, clove, toasted dark wheat bread, a light cocoa note. The mid-palate, though, falls off quite a bit. This feels thin, and relatively highly carbonated, lending an acidity that doesn't work with the weizen yeast flavors. Instead of creamy and light, this feels crisp and watery. The finish is particularly seltzer like. Decent.

I have mixed emotions about this beer, but overall I like it.

Poured from a can into a tall tulip glass. Cloudy brown color with a nice fluffy white head and good lacing. Slightly sweet malty honey smell and taste. Hint of root beer. A bit thin.

16oz can into a pint glass. Coding no help in determining freshness.

Looks splendid in the glass. Dark chestnut brown body. Small off white head persists in lesser form throughout leaving spotted lacing.

Nutty, malty aroma. Some banana and a little earthy.

Taste exactly follows the nose. Nothing to add.

Mouth just about reaches medium, finish malty, very faint sweet touch.

Overall, nice beer. Got a 4pack for $9.95, so another win.

Pours a handsome dark amber with lots of fine-grained foam in the Stella Artois goblet. Frothy on the tongue with long-lasting carbonation. Aroma of clove with a little banana and coffee in the nose. Malty but not overly sweet. Actually more sharp than most of these German-stle wheat beers.

Overall this is a flavorful and highly quaffable dark brew with all the right German characteristics. Well balanced with just enough hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. From the 500 ml can purchased on the West Coast.

Poured a hazy medium brown with a one finger frothy white head. Light lacing. Slight banana and cloves nose. Mild flavor of light dark bread with bananas, cinnamon and cloves . . . much like banana bread. There is a bit of dark cocoa on the finish that leaves a slight bitterness. The mouthfeel is medium and carbonation is fine. The beer is crisp, somewhat wet and silky. Overall, this is a very nice DHW that I would buy again.

It looks more like a brown ale, once poured from a pint plus .9 fluid ounce can into a clear Imperial pint glass. Actually, the color is more like a cloudy dark copper with a stark white head, typical of a wheat beer. The aroma is perfume-llke, rather than malty usually associated with this color. That's all the nose gets. Not much is expected from the taste and that holds. The best that can be said is that this doesn't bring the annoying metallic character to the taste as many in this style. It also has a reasonable hop inclusion, rare for many wheat beers. The body is light and one dimensional, fitting the style. For a wheat beer, this isn't bad.

Big frothy 2 finger off white head with good retention, soapy lacing, clear auburn to slight brownish color

Taste brings a little creamy malt, toasted biscuity with a hint of chocolate, toasted bread crust, hint of fruit, little toasted cereal grain, light bitterness, soft

Mouth is med to lighter bod, med frothy carb

Overall not bad, a bit light overall especially on the fruity esters, but good nonetheless

16oz can

Smooth and sweet banana and clove, light touches of cocoa and hops. I agree with another reviewer that the overall flavor is banana bread. If I dig there's a lot of tobacco flavors here. The flavor is slightly muted compared to other hefe's and dunkels, but clean and dry. Pour it out and let it breathe, trust me, it makes the beer at least twice as good. @ me if you disagree, I'm confident you won't

A very clean drinking hefe, good entry-level bier into these flavors

Poured from can to weizen glass. Pours a rich, cloudy amber-brown with a light brown head that falls but never disappears. Some lacing left behind as you drink. Smell is clove, banana, a bit of bubblegum...everything you'd expect. Taste follows nose with all those flavors working. Taste resembles banana bread in the end. A bit more depth than the lighter counterpart of the style. Feel is medium bodied, good carbonation, easy to drink. Overall, this is a solid beer. Tastes great, refreshing, and a bit more depth.
