16.9 oz can.

Pours a light golden straw color. Hazy and cloudy - quite opaque. Thick four finger velvety white head collapses leaving a mountain of foam. On top of the beer.

Aromas has notes of clove, nutmeg, wheat, banana and some peppery notes.

Taste follows the nose with notes of clove and nutmeg, spicy peppery yeast, nice wheat backbone with some banana bread notes and a slight fruity note on the back end.

Feel is medium to full bodied, smooth and silky. Moderately carbonated. Semi-dry finish.

Overall this is a really nice Hefeweizen. Just really hits the spot for me.

I started drinking this beer in 1979 after working in Germany for a few weeks. After returning to the U.S. I found it at a local German restaurant. This beer is what got me on the craft beer movement 36 years ago when there really wasn't much around. I still love drinking this stuff. I feel it's the Hefe Weizen that all Hefe Weizens should strive to compare themselves to.

Served cold from 500ml bottle into Schneider Weisse glass.

L) Pale orange-yellow colour, very hazy, very fizzy. Dense shaving foam head. Looks as good as any other weisse. Not much brown yeast in there though.

S) Light sweetish clove. Background honey and orange juice. Pretty standard weisse smell, i.e., apertising.

T) Nicely acidic orangey-banana milkshake. Light bready yeast lower down the list.

F) Good acidic fizz, slightly dense drink, no skanky aftertaste in fact the acidity gives it a nice clean finish. Very nice.

O) If you want to be fair to a beer when reviewing, do it at the right time of year. Drinking this in August showcases what the purpose of the beer is; pure refreshment. This one is well above average and in the top tier of Bavarian weizens.

Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Pours a light to medium golden amber with a finger of white head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of sweet wheat, lemon, banana, slightly spicy and quite pleasant.Flavor follows, with bready wheat, light lemon citrus and hints of banana. Dry, slightly buttery finish with a hint of hops. Light to medium bodied with nice carbonation. I've been spoiled by Weihenstephaner and approach new hefeweizens with caution. Even when they are good, they seem not to live up to that great beer. This one was not quite up to that flavor standard, but was not dissapointing in any way. Nicely balanced, mildly sweet start and semi-dry finish are perfect for the style. Very nice aroma and tastes great. I'll get this again.

From the bottle, it pours a hazy amber with a large fluffy white head that lasts. Bready scent in the nose. In the mouth, it is creamy feeling and delicious! Yum!

a hazy blonde color, champagne-like bubble streams. shorter head than paulaner, but good lace.
aroma is fresh clove, but not metallic like penn weizen.
taste is fresh banana bread, and it's even easy to imagine tiny bits of walnut in there. excellent.
not slippery smooth like paulaner. carbonation a little prickly and scrubby, but pleasant enough although the body leaves a slightly watery impression.
refreshing and fairly crisp with a great banana bread aftertaste. more like hacker than paulaner. this one is VERY hard to drink slowly!

16.9 oz. bottle, $1.79 at the Long Beach BevMo,

A: Pours a golden cloudy yellow, with a full white head with good retention, light lacing, sticky carbonation.

S: Bananas, pineapple, a bit of other trpical fruit.

T: Very fruity with ripe bananas and yellow apples dominating. No real clove element, on the sweeter side, but quite tasty for the style.

M: Light, crisp, a little watery, but overall nice.

D: One of the best hefes out there for sure, read about it in Michael Jackson's book and tried it. Inexpensive, tasty German beer.

BRight, bold orange cloudy body with more than a finger of head that lasts forever and lots of sheeted lacing.

The yeast shines in the aroma with a big hit of spiced oranges and just a little bit of pepper.

The taste is very sweet, once again, lots of citrus dominating the palate but it's very pleasant.

Mouthfeel is a tad on the thin side, but that's really the only bad thing I could say about this beer. Very slightly drying at the end.

An excellent beer, now that I found it I'll be stocking up!

I just had my first Tucher at my local bar. The bartender recommended it. It was poured in a traditional Weiss beer glass.

A- Cloudy w/ some yeast sediments in the glass. It definately looks like a Weiss beer from Germany.

S- Some yummy banana comes across w/ a touch of clove.

T- Seemed a little past its prime- but good never the less.

M- It was just OK. I expected more from this beer

O- I was pretty happy w/ this beer. German Wheat beers are always good.

This beer poured a cloudy golden color with a fluffy single-finger head. The scent is fruity with some banana and melon, some spices. The taste starts off with some sweet lemon that gives way to banana and ends with some spices. The mouthfeel is nice and crisp thanks to some fairly aggressive carbonation. This is a very drinkable beer that's a great example of the style.

a timid sweet hef that has the characteristics more so of a helles. looks like a hef with a golden yellow cloudy color and a pancake head that has more lace than most hefs. nose is 'bright'. there is the banana and clove and bubblegum but there is also a delicate citrus and honey malt. the nose even has a pilsner crisp odor which transfer over into the palate as something very minimal... its all there on the tongue but simple and crisp. the bitter is in the finish but more as a balancing agent of the sweet. an excellent hef/helles blend and a must for one's that are not particular for the over sweet hef.

from the same store as several other german brews i've picked up recently in beijing.

500ml can

very bright, golden straw color, nearly like a plain lager if it wasn't hazy with yeast. lovely head that fades to wispy layer. decent couple big rings of lace.

fruity aroma, more towards apple. only slight traces of banana and yeast.

flavor is standard weizen, without too many phenols or esters to distract. good maltiness in the background, faint acidity, and mild bitterness which finishes nicely. seems to have an almost parsley character to the hop?

smooth, although sometimes approaching watery. nice carbonation.

decent enough.

I had it for the first time at Egan's in Tuscaloosa, AL when it was on special.

A- Cloudy with some yeast sediments in the glass. It looks like a typical German weizen.

S- Some yummy banana comes across with a bit of clove.

T- Delicious. On top of the wheat flavor, there was bit of banana, clove, as well as hints of apples and bubblegum.

M- Just great. Flavor and carbonation went great together.

O- I was glad I tried this beer. German weizens have a tendency to be very good.

A: Pours an absolutely beautiful vibrant yellow orange with an angelic haziness. A medium pour produces two inches of dense white head. Poured into my Weihenstephan glass. Dear god, a half inch of foamy head is lingering. I can tell just from the look of this beer that it will be very good.

S: A melody of fruit esters wafting up combining with a subdued and refined wheat creating a pearlike sensation. Definite spice is present although I can't specify more.

T: A very polished product of once again refined wheat and milder fruit. Murmandsmus! This beer is so well balanced that trying to disearn flavors is a difficult talk. I'm having a hard time placing the fruit...cantaloupe?

M: Medium bodied with near perfect CO2. Spot on.

D: Average. What more can one say?

A fantastic hefe-weisen with some unique characteristics. Top notch. I would seek this beer out again in a heartbeat.

Live review. Poured from the 16.9 oz. brown vertically oriented bottle that I received as a Christmas gift from Mat & Christine into my Ayinger gold rimmed 0.5 L Weizen glass. I must say, this is the perfect glass for this beer.

A Sediment which was visible before even opening the bottle is chunky and floating about the orange/yellow body. The head was white, 3 to 4 inches but dissapeared all too quickly and now is non existent (some 3 minutes later). I wish the head stuck around but it remains an interesting look. 3.5

S This is not a good smelling beer. Repeated whiffs brought to mind a freshly chlorined pool, some stale Pine-Sol in a dirty bucket, some wet, rotting barley malt but none of the qualities that I value in this style. Amazingly, I get no light wheat malt smells. Very dissapointed. If I chose beers to drink on smell alone I would simply not try this one. 1.0

T/M A flat, thin mess of organic grain tastes and again none of the qualities that I have come to love in this style. The complete lack of carbonation reduces this beer to thick water with some unpleasant grain tastes. 2.0

D Not good. There is no reason in my mind that you would want such unpleasant smells and tastes in a beer and there is no surprise to me that I did not want to drink it. 1.5

Notes: This will likely be my lowest rated beer of its style for a long time to come. Normally I really go for beers in this style and that is why I am so dissapointed.
