Nose of sour wheat, faint banana, bubblegum, & spice, slight Apple. Taste banana, light yeast, grains, clove, pears, sweet malt, light body, soft carbo, refreshing light!

Pours a crystal clear deep straw or pale gold producing a 1.5 inch, white, tight/fine bubbled, somewhat lasting head that leaves little lacing. Aroma is wheat, with notes of banana, lemon & apple/pear & a very faint hint of sulfur. Taste nice blend of wheat, banana & apple/pear tones with notes of cloves & black pepper spice in the finish. Finish is crisp & dry with little detectable hop presence. A bit thin (watery) bodied with a medium-high carbonation but clean & refreshing. Aftertaste is a faintly bitter, yeasty fruitiness. Very drinkable.

A: Crystal clear, golden straw color with a mammoth white head from an aggressive pour,

S: Straw, wheat malts, I get a little of the classic spice and banana associated with a hefewiezen but not a pronounced as the unfiltered cousin.

T: Sweet malts from the wheat, then a subtle spicyness that I smelled but everything is so much more mild than I expected.

M: Light

O: Hefewiezen is one of my favorite styles and I was excited to try this when I saw it. I like it but a lot of the reasons I like the style is thwarted by the filtering. I guess I will stick with the Hefewiezen.

Bottle pour. One finger head with decent lacing. Aroma is banana and wheat. Taste follows aroma. I really enjoyed this beer. To me, this is a great example of the style.

L: Clear, golden, minimal white lacing
S: Bready, malt, Honey
T: same as the smell with a touch of bitterness, a very low profile taste that allows for higher drinkability
F: standard feel, medium carbonation

Overall: This is a lighter kristall weizen that has more long-term drinkability than Weihenstephaner's version. If you're drinking more than 1, Tucher is the way to go...if you're drinking just 1 beer and going for full flavor, Weihenstephaner has a bigger flavor profile and is a few cents more in cost.

This beer was disappointing when compared with Weihenstephaner Kristall.
