served on tap in a long stemed 10 oz ballon wine glass. it was a hazy golden with a light white head that left lace as it disapeared in to my belly. the aroma was malty, hoppy, and alocholly. the flavor was very malty with a good hop bitterness balance, alochol, little fruity from the yeast (my guess american ale). the mouth feel was pretty big and the was sweetness to balance out the hops. barley wine?? to hoppy to be a belgian beer. california strong ale?? well i guess i dont care it was a great beer.

This beer is a lot lighter in appearance than I would have expected for the style. Most strong ales seem to be darker than this. No matter though. This is a very smooth and finely done ale. Boozy tones are minimal, considering the abv. Nice smooth and subdued mix of hops and malts. Very smooth. Oh so smooth. This is a very easy drinking ale. Probably too easy drinking, considering the abv. This is a nice ale. There are no real strong complexities that take you on some long drawn out ride. But it's a finely made ale. If you have a chance to try this one, you definitely should seize the opportunity.

Dark honey with a smallish head of light tan that falls to a veiled ring in minutes. Not much for lace,

The nose is malty and sweet with a hint of spice and some fruity hops in the back. Faint whiff of peppery alcohol.

Like the nose, the taste is sweet and malty upfront with an almost dopple bock like spice flavor. This is followed by a growing hop flavor that gives very good balance to the malt profile. A little heat in the back and a growing warmth in my belly.

The mouth could be a bit heavier and could also use some more carbonation, just a bit more. Very, very drinkable despite the abv. I highly reccomend.

12.2 % by volume, bottled. Poured into a MJ tasting glass.

Pours a hazy orange with a fluffy head that does not last, but leaves a little whisp. Lots of lace on the glass.

Aromas of yeast, malt, and citrus. Profile very similar to a bok.

First sip is of bitter orange, bitter hops, not much malt, and surprisingly no alcohol bite.

Mouthfeel has a little heat from the alcohol, medium bodied. Very slight prickle from carbonation.

Very (dangerously) drinkable. The alcohol is going to kick my ass, but this goes down easier than a high school girl on prom night.

A: Just slightly hazy honey golden with loads of vigorous bubbles rising to a huge off-white rocky head. Really good lasting retention & great lace (3D!). A few floaties & far more cloudy with the second pour from the bomber. Spectacular look – especially for such a hefty beer.

S: Sweet in a very perfumey way – bits of light fruit esters, quite floral, & a touch of honey. Background crackery & sweet malts. Soft herbal & spicy hops. Not really picking up any alcohol – a surprise given the substantial abv. Okay strength. Reasonably pleasant and inviting.

T: Again, sweet (but more candi-like) and also floral with light fruits. Crackery base malt with hints of maibock-like malty sweetness, a slight doughy bready note (especially in the middle), and faint toasty grain. There is an earthy note from yeast and probably hops. Hops gain a touch of citrus to the mix of largely herbal / grassy character. There is also a good & firm spicey aspect that seems mostly hop derived, but could also be getting a boost from the alcohol. In the end and finish the hops get woody & earthy with a bit of resin and citrus rind. Hint of yeast character funk as it warms. Sweet, fruity, spicy, earthy, very solid if straight forward malt base, creative yeast notes, & great if not all that complex hop character. Blended, balanced, big, robust . . . Beautiful!

M: The barest bit over medium body, with CO2 a bit over-matched. Nicely expansive & mouthfilling, and surprisingly quenching for such a big beer. Helps it seem less hefty than it really is. Some fair dextrins & hop tannins. Pretty attenuated, but enough sugars to keep it from feeling all that dry. Finish goes drying from hops, and no doubt from the alcohol. However, warming is very minimal.

D: Very impressed! This is dangerously drinkable in the extreme. You would never guess the abv. Very much like a BGS with hints of maibock and strong APA. You could literally drink this until you fell over. You feel the alcohol, but otherwise never notice it. I am damn near stubified for words – this is just really, really good. The nicest drinking 12+ percent beer I can remember trying. Wow!

The best American Strong Ale I have ever had. Hands down. Cloudy orange appearance, small white head. Aromas of sweet hops and malt, with a note of alcohol. Nice. Taste was smooth for a higher ABV (10 %), while remaining warming and enjoyable. Flavors of grain, malt and alcohol blended over a sweet sugar cane backbone very well. Mouthfeel was medium to medium-full bodied, and very easy going down. For a beer of this magnitude, it's got great drinkability. Highly recommended.
