12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 8/25/2015. Labeled as 7% ABV. Pours lightly hazy dark ruby red color with a 1-2 finger fairly dense khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a good amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pepper, clove, pear, apple, light banana/bubblegum, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Nice aromas with good balance and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast, pumpkin/spices, and dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of big pumpkin, cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, pepper, clove, pear, apple, light banana/bubblegum, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness. Good amount of peppery yeast and light herbal/spice bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, pepper, clove, caramel, brown sugar, toasted bread, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, pumpkin/spices, and dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/bitter/spiciness balance with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Good amount of dryness after the finish from carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly creamy/sticky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a good Belgian pumpkin ale style. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast, pumpkin/spices, and dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink for the ABV. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Appearance: Liquid pumpkin. Surprise, surprise! Like seemingly any of MCBW's beers, there is no head, and no lacing. Almost looks like juice.

Smell: Smell's probably the highlight. The aroma lets you know immediately it's a pumpkin ale, with a good bit of spices like nutmeg in there as well.

Taste: Interesting ... almost off-putting, to be honest. It's not great, but it's not terrible. It has this weird taste that certainly makes it memorable though... it really has a lot of piney character on the front, but then an almost cheap malt flavor on the finish. It's definitely better than any macro beer could make, but it's not a huge step up, unfortunately.

Motor City Brewing Works isn't known for GREAT beers, but rather decent ones. The highlight is their pizza ... I don't love this beer, but it's not bad. I can't say it's worth $6 for a pint though. I'd much sooner take their Pale Ale or Ghetto Blaster for $4 a pint instead.
