Pours a very murky/muddy shade of yellow/brown with a one inch, eggshell colored head. Aroma is super stong notes of honey, maple syrup, pine resin, and various flowers. Taste is incredibly sweet balanced out by just the right amount of kick from the metric ton of hops dumped into this, following the nose pretty well. Nice full body, almost syrupy to match the sweetness. Overall a great triple IPA.

Hops explosion! This is not a balanced beer, but Captain Lawerence is not shooting for one of those with this citric, hopnotic punch to the mouth. If you checked your bloodsugar after this one it would read that you're hyper-hopnotized!

Came out gold with a nice quarter-inched head and a bit hazy. Decent retention with some lacing. If Hops had B.O. that's what this brew smells like. However, one notices some citrus, orange and/or lemon through the hoppy fog. Tastes like hops, more hops, MORE hops then a little citrus, and oh yeah, was that malt? Medium light, bitter almost chewy finish. Not bad if you are having hops withdrawals, but, this IPA would be hard to drink over and over again without stinking yourself.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle with a stamp that says 03302016. Sampled on July 29, 2016.

It pours pale yellow with a modest and short-lasting white head and good clarity.

The aroma brings out an orange zest, fruity, and floral character along wioth pale malts.

Light to medium body.

Same sort of tropical fruit characters in the taste with even some lemon-lime and a buried toasted malt note. Mild bittr finish.

Poured into a teku pint. Bottleneck says 03312016

A- Pours a medium amber color with a 1/2 inch off-white head that retains well before becoming a thick ring around the edge of the glass and a full sheet of surface foam. Semi-resilient lacing leaves small clots behind.

S- Sweet and malty with some pungent piney hops and a noticeable booze fume

T- Whew! Big rush of booze and bitterness makes for an astringent drink. Not very complex as all I get is an overwhelming flavor of alcohol and over-the-top bitterness. Even when the palate acclimates, there's just nothing worth while here. Finally, near the middle of the glass, some orangey fruit character is derived but it's too little too late.

M- Super sharp and stinging from the intense booze and hops. Medium carbonation and a lightish body which also isn't doing the beer any favors.

O- What a mess. Can't believe this has as high a score as it does. Yes, I'm not having it at its freshest, but a beer this big would still be good now if it was good fresh. One of the most imbalanced beers I've ever had...and that's saying something. Not undrinkable but the label does depict what happens to your tongue when this enters your mouth.

Served in a tulip glass rift from the bottle.

Appearance: Has a slight hazy body with medium bubbles creating an off-white head with a orange tint to it. Drops quick after a sip or two, slight sticky lacing...nice even drop.

Smell: Orange and grapefruit skin, obviously the citrus is evident but little light.

Taste: Gets intriguing with heavy malts and sweet floral feel. Almost becomes a bit over whelming but seriously addicting. Has a slight sour feel, but trust me it won't distract you.

Mouth: Chewy rye bread, sticks like salt to the ocean. Extremely tasty with medium carbonation.

Overall: Highly recommended brew, obviously I compare this to other IIPAs and this one can hang with the best of them. Always in a glass my friends. Salud!

L: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a golden yellow color and a hazy consistency. There was an inch and a half of foamy head that lasted a good amount of time. Decent lacing.

S: A solid aroma of hops (no surprise there), citrus, malt, and pine.

T: Tasted of hops (not as much as I would have thought, but still a lot), citrus (orange), melon, some pine, a little bit of malt, and a little bit of caramel. While the flavor had all of these ingredients going for it, it wasn't overly dynamic. Still, subtly interesting.

F: A fair amount of carbonation with a dry, bitter finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This beer is definitely OK, but a mixed bag. Worth a try, though.

Poured from 12 oz bottle dated 3/10/2016 into snifter.

A: Slightly hazy golden yellow with 1 finger white head with long lasting retention and leaving lots of lacing.

S: Citrus and floral hops with some apricot and peaches. Caramel, honey, and toasted bread.

T: Citrus and stone fruits combined with caramel and biscuit malts. Apricot, pear, and grapefruit.

M: Medium body with average carbonation. Finish is a little bitter and a touch sweet.

O: Excellent Imperial IPA with nice balance and complexity. Another solid brew from Captain Lawrence.

It reminds me of Southern Tier Gemini. It is smooth, sweet and hoppy. It balances nicely. The feel is hop inspired but a smooth and not bubbly, but subtle. Smell is up their with hop, but in general a must have!!

Got this one in Buffalo during the latest rendition of GABER. Cheers!

From a bottle into a snifter
Drunk right after Palate Shifter

APPEARANCE: Pours a two finger, medium looking, creamy white head with great retention. Hazy gamboge orange in color with lower levels of carbonation. Head slowly fades to a full foam cap and leaves piles of lacing down the glass. A half wisp remains until the end but the lacing kinds of dies off rather quickly.

SMELL: Lots of caramel, toffee, melon and notes of pine. Tropical fruits as well with notes of passion fruit and hints of citrus. Bold stuff.

TASTE: Caramel, toffee and melon sweetness up front. Flavorful with a big finish with plenty of booze, melon sweetness, bitter pine flavors, grassy hops and tropical fruit.Quite bitter and boozy with lots of fruity flavors lingering on the palate.

PALATE: Medium body and medium levels of carbonation. Plenty of weight, creamy and a touch syrupy on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes slightly mouth-coating. Some heat and alcohol linger along with the bitterness.

OVERALL: This is definitely a big beer. Makes me actually want to brew something like this again. Boozy with lots of sweet flavor and a good hop presence and bitterness to balance the show. This is more of a hoppy barleywine than an IPA per se. If you're looking for a DIPA, then Palate Shifter is a better bet. If you're looking for a big, bruiser of a beer with the hops in the right place, this will more than fit the bill. Good stuff. Recommended.

Pours a slightly hazy golden/orange with fluffy, long lasting off white head. Aroma is pine, grapefruit, lemon, honey orange, & mango. Taste is all of the above with a slightly sweet malt backbone. There is a touch of bisquit that seems to be getting stronger as it warms. The feel is med+ with a slight syrupiness that I am still trying to figure out if I like or not. It does help ward off the 10% ABV which is warming after 2 sips. It leaves a nice coating of hop resins on your tongue. Over all not bad if that syrupiness could be cut back just a little I would rate a little higher.

The look feel and color make this a wolf in sheep's clothing. Amazing balance out of a lighter malt with huge hops giving it a citrusy apricot piney taste. This may be my new favorite from CL behind captains imperial reserve

Pours clear, gold, with one inch head. Taste is tropical fruits: Lemon, mango, orange, with a nice malty backbone. Pretty well balanced for the amount of hops here. Tasty sipper that I will get again. Certainly worth seeking out.

9/6/15 DE

Pours straw yellow which is kind of strange for an IPA. Nice big white head with decent retention if that's what gets you off.

The smell is a bit boozy with some bitter hop that hits you. The taste is the same. It's ok, can't say that it's anything than a high octane basic IPA. The booze is up front and throughout. Not much masking here. Only think I keep thinking throughout is its just ok.'s ok. It is smooth for the alcohol but not something I'd seek out anytime soon.

SAmpling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into a snifter. The beer pours a slightly hazy gold color with a creamy bleached white head of 3 cm foaming up and fading to a sturdy surface layer.
Aroma is a little boozy and a bit of grainy malt but the dominance is rindy, citrus hops on this beer. I do get a little dark fruitiness mixed in on the nose, but in general hop notes take over. The nose isnt overly complex or robust for a bigger beer but it is enjoyable and certainl not a flaw.
First sip reveals a fairly thick body with very fine carbonation that is gentle on my palate and rolls across my mouth with each sip.
Flavor is as the nose advertises with a bit of grain and again some fruit, maybe grapes and pear, then a roll to hop astringency that doesnt relent till the next sip. RIndy, citrus notes carry the day on the flavor and a general aspirin astringency hits on the finish and lingers for a bit on my palate. The booze that I picked up on the nose doesnt give any pepper or heat on the swallow, which surprises me a bit.
The beer is actually very drinkable for 11% and im surprised at the ABV when I look it up.
A well crafted beer with lots of hop characteristics, but plenty of other details as well if you arent just a hop head.

Appearance: pours a cloudy orange color with a short 1/4" head that slowly falls to a thick surface covering.

Smell: loads of floral and citrus hop bitterness rises from the glass.

Taste: big caramel sweetness, mango, pear, grapefruit, floral notes, and a big juicy hop presence. Alcohol is slightly noticeable but not overbearing.

Mouthfeel: heavy bodied beer. Smooth and syrupy throughout. Long lasting aftertaste as the hop bitterness rides the tongue forever.

Overall: a very enjoyable triple IPA that has a nice balance of sweetness and bitterness. Since the alcohol is not overpowering I found this to be quite drinkable despite the high ABV.

Got in a BIF from beerloserLI. 12 ounce bottle into tulip glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy golden orange color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with good retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense soapy lacing clings around the glass, with some light streaming carbonation. Aromas of big tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of big citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate malt sweetness; with good strength. Taste of big tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness. Good sized pine/citrus rind bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of tangerine, pineapple, apricot, mango, lemon/orange peel, citrus rind, pine, honey, caramel, toasted bread, and floral/grassy earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of big citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate malt sweetness; with a nice bitterness/sweetness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very resinous/sticky and moderately slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is fairly well hidden with only a light-moderate warmth lingering after the finish. Overall this is an excellent Triple IPA style. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of big citrus/tropical/piney hops and moderate malt sweetness; and smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours into a small tylip glass a hazed orange infused lighter golden with a creamy and quite sticky half finger head atop.Aromas are a little muted for a beer of this size and style, some tropical fruits and big caramel notes are noted.Tangerine and tropical fruit-like hops hit up front on the palate than some hefty caramel and boozy sweetness with a bit of burn even in the finish. This is a big brash beer with big hops and booze.

12oz bottle. Rich golden color with nice white head. Aroma is there but not overbearing. Hop flavor pushes through and well outshines the bitterness, which I like. Medium body with good drinkability to it for a big DIPA. Not my favorite of the night but definitely not the worst. I would order again.

Golden in appearance, fluffy white head, good lacing.
Aromas of tropical fruits and pine.
Medium body mouth feel. No alcohol bite to speak of, but you will know that this is a 12% abv brew by the time it's all said and done. Slight bitter dry finish (as to be expected).
Tastes of tropical fruits. Some sweetness, but not enough to balance all the hops.
Not bad at all! This beer will not be voted world class any time soon but it sure is a quaffable triple IPA. I don't really care for most of Captain lawrence's offerings but I can drink this again. Not bad at all.

A - Hazey gold, with fine white fluffy head and coating of lace, in a snifter.

S - Fresh, pine resin, floral notes, mango, citrus.

T - Lemon, mango, dry-ish, lingering bitterness in the finish. Bright and fresh.

F - Medium body, controlled, but present alcohol, well carbonated, slick texture.

O - this is a fine IIPA, clearly East Coast, as it celebrates the hop aroma and flavor, over the bitterness.

Golden and somewhat hazy. One inch head.

Pine and citrus, dank hops. No floral notes. Nothing stands out.

Taste is more hops, some sweetness.

Feels oily at first, and then the alcohol becomes warming on the finish, but not as much as you'd expect at 11%.

Orange gold body with a bright white head. Left a decent amount of lacing in the glass.
Aromas of bright citrus/grapefruit and dank hops and a little alcohol
This is a palate destroyer! Coats the tongue in a straight jacket of hoppy goodness and doesn't let go!
Alcohol comes in as it warms, but still isn't as hot as you would think for 11%.
The bitterness and hop resins just last and last and last and coat your whole mouth. Don't plan on eating or drinking anything else and expect to taste it after having this beer!
Overall a very tasty beer full of hoppy resiny goodness! Give this a try.
