Notes: The only thing “effortless” about this beer is how it drinks. Domestic and imported malts take a backseat to the loads of American grown hops that are dumped into the kettle. Dry-hopped for mouthwatering aroma with Mosaic and Palisade hops, and infused with natural grapefruit flavor to add to the refreshment. Enjoy an Effortless drinking experience with our Grapefruit Session IPA.

From the tap, It's a light golden amber colored beer that is more opaque than you'd suspect it to be. The head is modest and enduring. The aroma is also modest, maybe just a little malt or hops can be discerned behind a noticeable, but not pungent grapefruit presence. With more glass lacing than expected, the taste is subdued, albeit in good balance. Grapefruit is only part of taste experience and it comes through tastefully. Hops and malt can also be detected, again in much moderation. The hop-grapefruit connection makes for a pleasantly dry and mildly bitter overall taste and finish. This is a session beer and most will probably want more than one, once they get started. If you're looking for bold anything, look elsewhere.

A very citrus season IPA. Decent looks with a nice thin-ish head. Touch of haze.

Heavy grapefruit juice.

Flavor puts forth lots of juice, Moderate hops and light sweet malt.

Crisp feel with mildly effervescent carbonation.

Nice easy drinking. A bit monotone but enjoyable.

I purchased this on a whim during the recent heatwave. Many IPAs use cascade hops, so grapefruit shouldn't be a reach. It pours nicely with a good white head, and it smells pleasantly of citrus. I do taste the grapefruit, but I still get a lot of the piney hop notes. With all of the advertising on the grapefruit session beer, I was hoping for a little bit less of the piney notes. It's certainly not heavy and I'm glad that I tried it, but I think I'll move on after this six-pack is done.

A: slight haze; bronze in color; 1 finger ivory head that receded to a splotchy cap; nice lacing;

S: white grapefruit;

T: up front, it's balanced between white grapefruit and a nice malt backbone; from the middle through the finish, it's grapefruit juice; moderate grapefruit rind bitterness at the end;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation; moderately dry finish;

O: OK, but I wouldn't buy again;

Pours light. Good grapefruit aroma. A big grapefruit taste up front the slowly mellows to a mild hoppy bitter finish. Well balanced. The best grapefruit IPA I've had so far. It would be effortless to drink a 12 pack of these.

Illegibly datted can into pint glass. Pours a deep amber with a small but persistent off-white head. Initial imression is - surprise! - grapefruit, with a bit of bitterness up front. Mouthfeel is on the light side of medium; carbonation is just right. Finsh is bitter grapefruit.
Lots of flavor for a session IPA, but it's all the SAME flavor. Kind of one-dimensional, but maybe that's what they were looking for.

Tastes like you are sipping on grapefruit with a tint of hoppy. It's not bad for a fruity Ipa but I am not a big fan of grape fruit in the first place. Either way, I think you have to give them a thumbs up for pulling it off.
Look: cloudy
Smell: like grapefruit juice
Taste: grapefruit and bitter hops
Feel: tangy
Overall: I'm not a fan of grapefruit in first place.

A: A hazy orange amber in color with a small light head.

S: Sweet grapefruit candy and citrus.

T: Tons of grapefruit flavor with some citrus zest as well. Not as sweet as the smell would have you believe.

M: Medium light in body with fairly aggressive carbonation, somewhat dry finish.

O: Overall fairly tasty.

I tried this at the brewery. It poured a hazy yellow with white head that is not leaving much lace. The scent had grapefruit flare. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with grapefruit presence. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall its a good beer.

Canned 5/23/18, purchased as a supermarket single in August 2018.
Clear, copper-golden hue. Reluctant few mm of head wasting away to spotty lacing, centered continent on the surface.
Prominent grapefruit contending with pale malt aromas. Inviting nose that compensates for lackluster look. Drink from the can, I guess.
Well done grapefruit flavor dominating but not obliterating the malt. A little peppery note, other citrus flavors popping on the back of the tongue.
Pleasantly bitter, consistent if not luxurious carbonation. Dry finish.
Session ale mission accomplished!

I wish that I had gotten this one out of the rotation & into the reefer about a week ago when it was hotter than Hades. The CANQuest (tm) does not have timeliness as one of its hallmarks or I would have drank this on a sweltering, humid Summer's day. Oh well.

From the CAN: "Lay back and enjoy an effortless drinking experience"; "Grapefruit Session IPA"; "Tropical refreshment all year long".

No time like the present for a Crack & Glug, I like to say. Once acCANplished, I sat back as two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head formed, slowly falling away to wisps, leaving nice lacing in its wake. Color was an oh-so-slightly-hazy Golden-Amber (SRM = > 5, < 7). Nose smelled like Ocean Spray Pink Grapefruit Drink, hence "India Pale Ale brewed with Natural Grapefruit Flavors". It was not made with real grapefruit, but with added flavorings. Mouthfeel was medium. The taste was bitter, slightly tart, evocative of grapefruit, but imprecise and where I might have chalked it up to an overuse of Citra hops, it had a slight chalkiness that may or may not have been from a saturation of hops, but then what would be the point of the grapefruit flavoring? Hmm. Needless to say, I am going to be Effortless in dunning this one! Finish was dry, bitter, but still chalky. I have had much better AIPAs & even some better Session AIPAs, although the style does not exist. I was very unimpressed by this one, but who knows, YMMV.

Not the heavy hop assault that I've come to expect from IPAs. The grapefruit taste was dominant, although not over the top per many fruit-based beers that I've had. It was smooth and went down easy as you'd expect from a lower alcohol session brew.

2/16/18...pours semi clear gold, very low foam. Pulpy grapefruit nose, very strong, slightly malty too. Heavy fruit forward taste that trickles down into a residual bitter. Smooth w/ the wave of fruit. Effortless describes it well/

Pours a semi clear orange, with fine, wispy foam.

Smell is just pure grapefruit juice with a tiny hint of grass.

Taste stays very grapefruity, with some earthy grass notes coming through, together with a mild bitterness.

Mouthfeel is thin, well carbonated.

Overall, a pretty good session IPA that is a bit one dimensional with the grapefruit.

A 12oz can with a BB of Nov 2017. Acquired a little while back from a webshop. An IPA with added grapefruit, as the name suggests.

A: Poured into an IPA glass. Can conditioned. A rich, hazy amber hue with good carbonation and plentiful suspended sediment. Yields a large head of frothy white foam that lasts for a few minutes before settling as a persistent surface layer. Slight lacing.

S: Aroma of grapefruit with hints of citrus zest, mild tropical fruit, grass/hay, leafy hops, earthy yeast and subtle grainy malt. Fruity and delicious.

T: Tastes of grapefruit with notes of citrus, peel, subtle tropical fruit, leafy hops, earthy yeast and mild grainy malt. Pretty dry, with a distinct hoppy bitterness upon swallowing.

M: Mouthfeel is smooth, tingly and dry, with spritzy carbonation and good body for the strength. Mildly astringent. Aftertaste of grapefruit, zest, bitter aromatic hops, earthy yeast and pale malt.

O: Great - fruity and hoppy while simultaneously being light and refreshing. Good looks, followed by an aroma and flavour that are replete with grapefruit character and a balanced hop presence. Nice body for the style. Goes down a treat - well worth sampling if you come across it.

A pretty dark reddish orange and hazy beer. A nice white head that fades quickly and leaves a speck or two of lacing behind. The aroma is a lot of grapefruit pith and a little bit of malt sweetness. The taste is bitter grapefruit pith with a tiny bit of malt backbone. Very dry finish with good carbonation. Overall a really good session IPA with a ton of grapefruit flavor.

Enjoyed straight from can while grilling in the backyard.

Captain Lawrence managed to win me over with this one even though it had 2 strikes against it before I even tried it. 1) i am usually not big on session ipas, 2) i am usually not big on fruited ipas. The grapefruit flavor is present and prominent, but still manages to taste like an ipa. I think the big flavor also makes the mouthfeel seem a bit larger than the thin watery bodies, that are my main complaint with most session ipas. Definitely refreshing. Not the type of beer that would become a go to, but I would have no problem drinking again in the right situation.

A: Pours a hazy golden honey in color with slightly heavier than moderate amounts of active visible carbonation rising quickly from the bottom of the glass and moderate copper + burnt orange + golden yellow colored highlights. The beer has a two finger sudsy foamy off-white head that reduces to a large patch of thin film covering the entire surface of the beer and a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Light to moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate to strong aromas of fresh citrus/grapefruit with light to moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit pith hops and a hint of biscuit malts.

T: Upfront there are light to moderate flavors of biscuit malts with a hint of caramel sweetness. That is followed by moderate to strong flavors of citrus/grapefruit juice. Finally there are moderate flavors of citrus/grapefruit pith hops which contribute a light to moderate amount of bitterness which fades away quickly leaving a lingering grapefruit juice flavor.

M: Just shy of medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Hints of dryness in the finish.

O: Easy to drink, sessionable, and enjoyable assuming that you enjoy the taste and smell of grapefruits. I could easily have a couple of these and I would be happy to enjoy this one again.

Very one-dimensional IPA. It is light, with a big flavor. A good summer thirst quencher, but that is all there is. A potent hit of grapefruit in a fairly light beer. Pours a light golden copper color with a very small white head that fades fast. Lacing is minimal. Aroma and flavor are overwhelmingly grapefruit. Citrus hops and grapefruit juice. Mouthfeel is light. The bitterness comes from grapefruit juice and citrus hoops. It is light and goes down easy. An OK session beer, would be good in pitchers.

Had this on 2017-04-07 in Columbia, PA from a 12oz can and again on 2021-06-11 from

A - Hazy golden-orange with a 2-finger white head that drops quickly leaving decent lace.

S - Plenty of juicy, pink grapefruit flesh, light pine, light grassy and herbal spice, cracker malt.

T - Echoes the aroma with the addition of some orange flesh and zest to compliment the pink grapefruit. Mild pine. Plain biscotti (without almond). Tea. Finishes with a lot of grapefruit flavor, some fruit sweetness, mint and appropriate grapefruit bitterness.

M - Light-medium body and medium carbonation. Prickly and very dry.

O - No doubt about this being a grapefruit infused beer! Lots of flavor for 4.5% ABV. This is an enjoyable brew. I would have liked a bit more of the biscotti flavor but I had a second one right away, which is a good sign. Worth checking out for sure.

Notes: I had this side-by-side with a Golden Road Wolf Pup on 2017-08-19 and I slightly preferred this one.

On tap:
Little ruddy looking in a mildly dark bar. Near cloudy, head is thin but present, swirl doesn't bring much excitement.

Nose, for a grapefruit session is decent - fruit and rind, not really artificial smelling. Saying that, this sounds odd, but reminds me a bit of Grapefruit A-Treat. Little crackers malt comes through.

Feel is a bit thin and bubbly, but it is a lighter beer. The grapefruit seems to hold up the beer, with the base probably being more of a light APA without it. The sum of the parts is good, though, a pithy bitterness wins the end after the flavor of grapefruit without tart/sour or sweet takes the early taste.

Solid offers no for a lighter beer. Really the watery/light feel more than weak flavor are the only things that indicate this is a session. Decent amount of goodness in this lighter offering.

Tasty, big on the grapefruit. Malt totally takes a backseat to grapefruit flavors. I'm assuming 'natural flavors' means grapefruit zest or juice. Would be ideal to get there with just hops, but alas this is the next best thing.

A: Pours an orange-yellow w/ a one finger head that dissipated quickly, but left a nice foamy collar. Very good lacing
S: Grapefruit and other citrus fruits like lemon / orange. Candy sweetness.
T: Grapefruit immediately; some stone fruit, perhaps mango. Nice bitter hops at the end that lingers on the tongue.
M: Good carbonation. Light- to medium-bodied.
O: I would maybe like it a little less sweet, but overall it's a good session IPA. Would make a great summer beer.
