Poured from a 12oz. bottle, no freshness info on the bottle or six-pack.

Appearance: Pours a lemonade color, stark white head that is voluminous and leaves thick lacing behind.

Smell: Orange peel, fresh citrus fruit, mild spices.

Taste: Pureed fruit, tingly spices, mango, bit of banana.

Mouthfeel: Strong up front but lacks in the finish, bit weak and doesn`t linger.

Overall: Good stab at the style, worth a shot.

Appearance: Lighter than a typical Belgian Pale Ale but in keeping with the name of this beer, the color is a pale gold. The clarity is absolutely brilliant, and the persistent head is a true snow white.

Smell: Immediately apparent is the pleasant clove-like aroma, which is backed by pale malt and faint, citrusy hops.

Taste: Biscuity malt takes a backseat to the cloves and coriander, which are paired with sugary pears and tangy apricot. Low hop bitterness is quite right for the style, but in my opinion, the spiciness of this brew would be better complemented by a hoppier, more highly carbonated American Pale Ale. Just sayin'.

Mouthfeel: Medium-light mouthfeel and medium carbonation are in keeping with typical Belgian Pale Ale attributes.

Overall: The spices bring a fun and fascinating twist to this BPA, although they seem slightly out of place in the absence of hops. In the end, however, this is a tasty, enjoyable beer that I would never pass up.

Poured from a 12 oz brown bottle into a Samuel Adams Perfect Pint glass. No freshness date. Single purchased at Oliver's Beverage (Albany, NY).

A: Slightly hazy golden with short tightly bubbled white head with a few spots of lacing near the top of the glass.

S: Phenolic Belgian yeast, grainy pilsner malt, light candy sweetness, melon, and herbal earthy hops.

T: A very cohesive beer. The phenolic character of the yeast is very strong at first but fades a bit with accommodation and warming. The cereal grain maltiness then takes over with some fruity yeast and malt flavors working together nicely. The bitterness is moderate with herbal hopping. The flavors join forces effectively and provide a very even, balanced Belgian pale ale.

M: Light-medium body with aggressive carbonation and a fairly dry, lightly phenolic finish.

O: Liquid Gold is a solid and then some Belgian pale ale with a good balance of yeast, hops, and malt character to provide an interesting brew.

Amazing light beer - served 9oz at Victorie in Rochester, NY. Great mouthfeel and can't say enough about how beautiful the head is in the sunlight - the attention to detail with the apple subtleties is striking in a good way. I loved this beer - please try it if you can find a good tap!
