Pours a deep black with a lasting brown head. Aroma of dark roasted caramel malt and smoked barbeque pit essence. Taste is sweet dark mild roasted caramel malt and a flavorful smoked barbeque notes with some mild bitterness and a lingering smoked flavor on the end. Palate is a medium body, smooth with moderate carbonation. This brew is quite good only wish it had a stronger smoked aroma. Overall a very well made, tasty and flavorful brew.

Notes from 9/18/14. Bottle Date - 12/30/13. Poured into a snifter.

A - One finger of head the color of coffee with one milk. Black body with some brown hues when held to the light.

S - Rich chocolate ice cream. Mellow coffee notes. Slightly metallic. Some smoke in the finish.

T - Mellow chocolate with coffee accents. Finishes with a subtle touch of peaty smoke. The two balance out a bit more as it warms.

M - Relatively thin while cold. Medium carbonation. Watery finish.

O - Not as intensely smoky as I expected. The nose was great, but maybe some of the flavors faded over the last 9 months.

Black body under a long lasting khaki colored head.

The roasty porter comes first and the smoke second. Just how I like them. I found more smoke in the nose than I did on the tongue. I smelled campfire smoke rather than meaty smoke plus coffee like roasted malt.

The taste is much more chocolaty than the nose suggested it would be. There is a nice lingering roasty char plus subtle smoke. I may have found a hint of sweet vanilla as well. World class smoked porter here, glad I got to try it.

A: deep brown; 1 finger light brown head that receded slowly to an uneven cap; moderate lacing;

S: smoke, bacon, coffee, dark chocolate;

T: the smokiness is there throughout, but never overwhelming; a little dark chocolate mid-palate; finish is moderately bitter;

M: medium bodied; moderate carbonation:

O: smoke is really well done; some smoked beers are like licking an ashtray - not this one;
