First thing that comes to mind, D-licious! Second thing that comes to mind, after finishing a pint of this celestial nectar, full sleeves and a neck tattoo sounds like a great idea! Yeah, yeah, yeah, it’s golden in colour as opposed to amber. Tastes hoppy, smells hoppy, has citrus notes. A little more flavour than most, meaning, if this isn’t your first rodeo, you’re going to dig this IPA. Well done Captain Lawrence! Not sure what your a captain of but if it’s beer, it’s well earned!

This is a very hazy and fruity in aromatics and flavor beer, with a nice balance and a mouthfeel that is thick and viscous with minimal carbonation. A very enjoyable example of a hazy IPA.

Excited to finally have this brew! I've really been enjoying Cpt. Lawrence's hoppy offerings as of late (including Powder Dreams and the Orbital Tilt rotating hop series) and had attempted to get this on tap a couple months ago at a bar in Boston only to be told that the keg had just kicked. Though my replacement IPA was really good (I believe it was something from Mystic), I have been looking forward to trying this for a while. Luckily, it has finally made its way from a tallboy can into my glass!

The pour here is super nice, with a straw-yellow, golden-ish colored beer holding up a couple fingers of bone-white head that laces incredibly well as it dissipates a bit. Solid legs here and a mostly-hazed surface have me thinking this might sit with the best of Tree House et al when all's said and done. A really great first impression!

The nose displays some of the most desirable elements of the hops involved, that much is certain. Motueka and Citra are disparate hops with very dissimilar parentage, yet they have some common aims in use, both in terms of aroma and flavor. The bright citrus (particularly lime) from Motueka is definitely amplified here by the supportive Citra element. Some catty funk along with notes of grapefruit, lychee and grassiness. There's even a little bit of "white wine," with kind of a tropical/stone fruit/mineral note that reminds me of beers hopped with Nelson Sauvin or something. Motueka is only a little bit removed from Nelson, in my opinion, so I guess that makes some sense, but perhaps the recipe here is helping bring that element to life all on its own. Whatever it is, one thing's for sure... this is a very nice smelling brew!

On the tongue, this has a lot of chewy oat-like malt combined with dank and grassy hoppiness, melding notes of light tropical fruit cocktail with some bright citrus and herbal elements. Pineapple-like intensity combines with lime, tangerine, passion fruit and mango. Kind of a chalky mid-palate that gets a bit indefinite here and there, but I really like the complex hop elements up front and in the finish. I don't initially get much of the 7.5% ABV here either, but as it warms it starts to become a little bit more apparent.

Feel is on the medium-heavy side of things, kind of riding a dense wave of hoppy, yeasty goodness til the end of each sip. I wish this were a little bit more crisp, but it really does drink pretty nicely for its ABV, and it brings out the Motueka and Citra in a pretty balanced and representative manner. I just wish I knew when this was canned. I know it's fresh enough to drink, because it doesn't taste old, and because CL has never really let me down with IPAs so far despite the apparent-ness of dates on cans being rather hit-or-miss, but I really would like to know the born-on date here. Aside from that slight misstep, however, this is quite great!

Tangerine, white grapefruit, ripe peach and mango. Cracker malt. A bit watery. Medium bodied. Tilts more on the sweet side than bitter. Semi dry finish. Very flavorful. Solid brew.

16oz can courtesy of beerloserLI. Canning date on the bottom of the can, but smudged into illegiblness. My 1st from Captain Lawrence.

Poured into a glass, this was the color of a glass of OJ, with a somewhat tight white head. Lots of lace.

Very fruity in the nose. Mango and pineapple jump out, along with a very subordinate but sharp citrusy bitterness.

Very fruit forward tasting. The hops give off tropical fruits up front. There's a grapefruity bitterness that stays in the background until the swallow, when it jumps to the forefront to end things on an astringent zap to the tastebuds.

Medium bodied, with a soft but slightly oily mouthfeel.

I'm enjoying one can of this, but this is the sort of NE IPA I can only have one of per drinking session, so if I encountered it in a local bar, it'd probably be a one-and-done for me. It is a great showcase for the featured hops. Thanks, Brian!
