Style: American Pale Wheat Ale
Alcohol by volume (ABV): 4.50%
Availability: Summer
Notes / Commercial Description:
As the sun starts to peek out from around the dark winter clouds, it is a clear reminder that brighter days lie ahead. Deviating from the original recipe, this new and improved Sun Block comes with a little more oomph in flavor, but still has that great summertime body.

On tap at the Blind Tiger, in NYC (god I love being able to type that again..) Typical witte presentation, cloudy, yellowy, with a white tight knit head, showing better then average retention and a nice amount of lacing. The expected lemony, citrus nose with a hint of yeastyness. Crisp and refreshing offering, more lemon, wheat malt in the back ground. Yummy new offering from the good Captain.

Poured from the bottle into a wheat ale glass.
Deep and rocking three finger fluffy, to thick bodied tall bright white head produced off the pour, with a nice styrofoam top. Body color is slightly cloudy, but with lots of pinhead carbonation in even streams. Golden lemon, with apricot orange hues along the edges. Very nice looking wheat ale.
Very nice nose. Mild hop forward, good amount of real perfume like florality. Hints of grass, and a little big of herbal spicy quality too, then peaks towards a bit of tangerine orange.
Palate makes for a bit more neutral character. Mild orange and almost witbier like citrus flavors, with a bit of wet body. Missing a bit of thick wheat chew going on here and slightly wet. Aftertaste has a real gummy yeast sense, with some of the citrus hop action giving just a little bit of juicy quality good enough to save this and make it a little interesting.
Overall though comes off like an odd wheat ale, odd weird orange wit without the Belgian angle, so it's neat but also not something that seems to grab my palate interestingly enough.

Had this one on tap at the brewery's 3rd anniversary party.
A - Pours a hazy golden yellow with a frothy white head.
S - Lots of coriander spice and citrus with some floral and grassy notes.
T - I love witbiers beers and this one just didn't do it for me. Had a strong coriander and orange citrusy bite and not much wheat.
M&D - Light and crisp mouthfeel, refreshing summertime beer. Just not that great tasting.
Don't go out of your way for this one if you're a fan of the style.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12 oz bottle into a pint glass.
Appearance: The body has a Pale yellow color body and a hazy look. This is topped with a small white head. It fades quickly and only makes a little spotty lacing at the top of the glass.
Smell: It has a lot of grassy and floral hops with bready wheat maltiness backing it up.
Tast / palate: The flavor starts off with a light bready almost sourdough like maltiness up front and then it brings solid floral and grassy hops with some light unripe pineapple notes. The finish has a good solid hop bitterness. Carbonation and the feel is very lively.

Appearance: 1 inch head, clear, gold in color, high carbonation,
Smell: orange, lemon, lots of fresh citrus
Taste: orange, lemon, lots of fresh citrus--slight earthy hops
Mouthfeel: sweet with light bitterness, light bodied with high carbonation
Overall: Very juicy and citrusy beer that is balanced well. One of the better offerings I have had from Captain Lawrence's small bottles. Wish I found a full six of this.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip. Assuming the bottle isnt supposed to say "witte" anywhere on it?
A: Pours a cloudy pale golden with a somewhat thick one finger head. The head is white and sticks around for a bit leaving some lacing on the glass. Lots of visible carbonation as tiny bubbles.
S: Certainly hops, this has a nice fresh aroma to it. A blend of floral and citrus with a touch of pine. Seems to dominate the wheat, which I dont mind.
T: The wheat does come through more on the taste but is still a bit overshadowed with the ample hop dosage this brew has. Aftertaste is a mix of citrus and pale malts. On the hoppier end for not being labeled an IPA.
M: A pretty crisp and refreshing beer. Ample carbonation and a mostly clean finish. I guess the hops provide a bit of stickiness but its quite acceptable for the amount of hop flavor.
Overall Captain Lawrence strikes again. I have been impressed with their selection and would recommend to anyone into American Pale Wheat Ales.

DATE: June 19, 2016... At my second Father's Day at the Draught House--forty beers on tap and a free dinner! Can't beat that... drinking from a Miller Lite pint... starts with a frothy, crater-like off-white head that settles to a thin film... clear, golden body--but does NOT look filtered... faint pepper and banana, with some malty biscuit... strong rye suggestions, with aromatic flowery aromas providing some .. the flavor is pepper and biscuit, with lemony hops and Saaz-like pilsener, both of which are softened by the wheat... medium-bodied, with a refreshing, lighthearted passage to the throat, but no staying power here... pairing well with the bourbon pepper steak I ordered, though a bit light for the task... as a kickstarter for my Father's Day, a winner... a beer that could be sessioned, but not as bright as promised...

On-tap at the brewery
Immediately reminds me of Victory's Whirlwind Wit for the juicy flavors and light body. This beer, however, comes off a bit more satisfying thanks to the shot of citrus in the taste. There's a lot that's traditional about this beer in the easy mouthfeel and coriander flavor, but a little kick of American hops gives this beer a nice twist. Still pretty Belgian, but not quite. Worth a try if you're into wit's.
