Served on-tap at the CL Brewery.

Appearance is pink with one finger of a bubbly head to it. Its` nose has flowers, raspberries, it is a rather subdued aroma. For the taste, there certainly are those raspberries coming through, it is a bit sweet, but not overboard. As it warms up, it tastes even better. Mouthfeel is medium, fairly crisp, dryness in the finish. It is an interesting beer to be sure, one of their pilot system batches available typically only at the brewery. However, I believe this one was actually available at the Spring Lounge in NYC. As one of the staff members there, helped shape the recipe. It is a pretty good beer, but not one that I would want more than a glass of (the sweetness, fruit).

Growler filled at the brewery a few hours ago.

They describe it as follows..." A light Belgian ale with a heavy dose of raspberries added to the fermentors"

Pours darker amber with a dark plum hue. The head also has a similar dark plum hue. Starts out fluffy then goes to a minor film and nice looking fine high splatttered fields of sheeting.

Delicate fruity, raspberry nose, with some light smoke and hops.

Mildly fruity, mostly flavorful and complex, with more light smoke, quite dry hops and an underlying glimmer of raspberry.

Some of the guys working at the brewery were not in love with how this one came out. I think they were looking for more fruity and less dry/hoppy. I'm enjoying every sip of this enticing and interesting brew. More fruit and more yeast characteristic would increase the interest and add even more complexity. Hopefully a second batch will emerge, but that's just wishful thinking as seemingly very few of the pilot batch type brews from the Captain have been brewed a second time. Time will tell, but I like the direction they were heading on this one.
