On-tap at the Captain Lawrence tasting room.
A- Pours an opaque dark brown, topped with a thin khaki head.
S- Some smoky pepper aroma, maltiness and yeast. Smells nice but not a lot going on.
T- Flavor is a lot more interesting, has a nice peppery, smoky flavor, along with dark wheaty malt and some breadiness, it seems to be straddling a malt profile somewhere between a dunkel and a brown ale. There's also some fruitiness and toffee. Some bitter leafy hops in the finish.
M- Feel is light to medium with a smooth, crisp amount of carbonation.
O- An interesting, tasty beer, I could happily and easily drink a few glasses of this.

Had a sample that led to a growler for today's grilled delights and boy am I glad. This is a dark murky brew with lots of head and lacing. Thick lacing all over and a light covering on top that stays.Nose is roasty with lots of dark grains and a firm, earthy, almost IPA like hop contingent. Flavor has a firm bitter character and earthy hops in the finish add to the espresso like experience. Wheat malt keeps it light with a mild sweetness and clean yeast fruitiness that is surprisingly low in esters considering the dunkel genesis. Malt body has bits of burnt toffee that stay under the hoppy dry finish and leave my mouth with a clean and hop oil sensation at the same time. Feel is light and crisp with a mild tingly carbonation. A highly quaffable brew with a perfect combination of dark roasted flavors, hops, and moderate abv to make this a perfect late spring session brew. This went well with the mesquite grilled shrimp, portabella mushroom burgers, vegi-burgers and dogs, corn and everything else this Memorial day weekend. Thanks to the crew at the CLBC for this treat!

Growler filled at the brewery this afternoon.
"Based on a German Dunkelweiss, this is a brown wheat beer with American hops and peppercorns" Captain's info sheet
Pours very dark brown, dark khaki head thats on the creamy side and stays awhile. Leaves better then adequate fine and scattered fields of lacing.
Nose is muted, but I am picking up some dark malts, ripe fruit and yeast.
On the palate its some chocolate, dark sweet malts and again fruity/yeasty notes. Dry nicely hopped finish, with some more chocolate.
Love the style and this is a more then pleasant take on it...
