Inky, pitch black with minimal effervescence and copious soapy light brown head, and lacing that sticks to the glass. Smells strongly of sweet, roasted malts, caramel, vanilla, oak, cocoa, leather and smoke. Tastes sweet malts forward, vanilla, cocoa, caramel, bourbon like with its woody and leather notes, well balanced by the dry notes of the bourbon and a smoky, burnt almost charcoal like quality as an end note that pleasantly balances the malty sweetness. Thick body with fair amount of astringency – not syrupy and leaves a pleasant finish with the barest hint of a bourbon twang. Increases in complexity as it warms. . .
Admittedly, I bought this as a novelty on a recent wander through the Wegman’s - but I would definitely pick this up again – I wonder if further aging would smooth off the rough edges.
Solid imperial stout – charred bourbon accents to the flavor profile are quite good (and I’m not a bourbon drinker) –

650ml bottle.

It pours a dark blackish brown with a big, billowy and tightly foamed tan head.

The smell is nice it has some cocoa, and butterscotch.

The flavor is big and sweet initially. There is a very nice hit of roasted malt that dominates. This brewery has miserable QC issues but this beer is good, very similar to the Abyss.

This beer pours a dark chocolate color with some tan foamy head that has little lacing as you drink. The aroma has hints of cherry and chocolate malt. The taste starts with roasted malty sweetness and then moves to some cherry flavor and donates with some sour notes. The mouthfeel is ok... With some extra carbonation that I would like. Overall worth a try.

Poured from a bomber into a Hangar 24 Barrel Roll snifter...

A - Pours black with a one finger brown head that sticks around for a while. There is a good amount of lacing to be had...

S - Dark roasted malts, chocolate, molasses, and a hint of alcohol...

T - Chocolate, molasses, a little coffee, and a good dose of roasted malts/barley. Finishes roasty with some bitter chocolate, and a smooth alcohol warmth. Alcohol is very subdued...

M - Nice viscous full bodied feel with a moderate amount of carbonation...

O - Very nicely done. Definitely something I will buying again in the future...

Cheers...

Appears black with a large overbearing brown head. When I poured the beer 85 percent of the glass filled up with head and I even did a gentle pour.

It smells a bit boozy. There is a slight roasted nutty flavor. there is a bit of a sour flavor as well. A bit of a grassy herbal hop smell is also present. I also smell a bit of a slight Carmel like sweetness.

It tastes much like it smells. There is a boozy taste, a mild caramel sweetness and a bit of grassy hoppy flavor. A strong dose of hoppy bitterness rounds off the flavors. It does not taste bad but it is rough around the edges. The flavors do not blend that smoothly.

The carbonation is way too high for the style. It has a watery texture as well.

Drinkability is not that good. Not only is it high on alcohol but it is harsh and is not smooth at all.

I am normally a big fan of Laughing Dog. But this beer was quite rough. I guess I had worst imperial stouts, but this beer is flawed on quite a few levels.

A: Black with a thick, foamy on inch chocolate hue; lacing is great

S: Strong roasted malts; chocolates, coffee and dark fruits--raisins, plums, prunes, grapes; this is dark and roasty and awesome smelling

T: Rich roasted malts; coffee and chocolates--lots of dark unsweetened chocolates and dark fruits--fairly bitter with some lingering dark fruits

F: A touch thin for a big stout though still fairly creamy

O: A nice big, creamy, malty beer; good stuff

Picked this up @Belmont Station while visiting some family in Portland in February and have been waiting to give it a taste.

A: Pours a delicious looking motor oil black, appears thick, great two finger caramel colored head. Head stuck around till the last sip leaving some modest lacing.

S: WOW. Alcohol. I would say bourbon is the dominant scent, slight dark chocolate and coffee aromas and a faint amount of hops.

T: Very close to the scent. Bourbon dominates. Dark chocolate, roasted malts and a slightly bitter finish from the hops.

M: Thick and smooth. Good carbonation. Goes down very easy but it is definitely a sipper.

D: Overall a nice IS. Unique in flavor but not exactly something i would go out of my way to try again. Strong alcohol character makes it slow drinking beer.

Glass: Stout/Porter glass (Chalice)

Appearance: Black with a thick rocky mocha colored head. good lacing.

Smell: Ginger, alcohol, with a little hint of Belgian yeast aroma.

Taste: Strong Mocha latte flavor that is present due to the combination of coffee and chocolate syrup flavors that just dominate the initial taste of the beer. A slight bit of bourbon that fades into a strong lingering coffee finish.

Mouthfeel: Thick full bodied, alcohol warming, and a gritty grainy texture.

Fantastic thoroughly enjoyable stout, complex and satisfying.

A: Pours opaque black with an explosive tan head. Low carbonation.

N: Sweet oak, dark chocolate, caramel, coffee and grapefruit.

T: Earthy oak, espresso, caramel, chocolate and metallic grapefruit.

M: Thick, dry and creamy.

D: Low drinkability due to thickness and some booze and metallic flavors.

Again I believe this Imperial Stout should be much better reviewed.

Color is darkest of black
Taste has the hit of a Russian stout, but not overwhelming. The alcohol is barely noticeable in taste. The hits of coffee are slightly noticeable. This Stout has the best price to quality ratio you could ask for....very nice ABV, but does not overpower when sipping. Love the flavor as it is by far one of the best of Stouts. My favorite beers are stouts.

Flavor is a personal issue, and I believe Laughing dog hit it out of the park, however I would love to see this stout in a 12 oz bottle for a 4 or 6 pack.

Don't think this stout will disappoint, but taste is an individual thing.

I recieved this beer from a few BA's. Thanks to all of you. Poured into my tulip froma bottle.

A: Pitch black, two fingers of mocha hued head, tiny flecks of soapy lace, small cap forms

S: Chocolate, molasses, non bitter coffee, roasted malt, just a hint of wet cardboard

T: Huge bitter black coffee up front. Dark chocolate, molasses and a touch of roastiness.

M: Seems a touch thin for a RIS. Light carbonation.

D: Overall nothing real special going on here. I had high hopes with the cool name. Sadly this beer was more dog than anything.

I drank this from a tasting glass at NotB.

The beer pours black with a medium tan head, ok retention, very good lacing.

The aroma is pretty strong with some coffee, wood, and lots of hops, almost overwhelming.

The taste is very hoppy as well, not balanced very well with the wood or a nice coffee taste.
