12 oz bottle poured into a tumbler
Look: Very dark with a tan head
Smell: Definitely chocolate...cocoa, heavy malt
Taste: It is what it say it is...taste like a chocolate shake. I taste more milk chocolate, very sweet
Feel: very creamy and smooth. Chocolate taste lingers
Overall: I like this one but I don't know if I can drink more than one of these. Very rich and creamy and sweet and it works really well the first couple sips. But by he end of the bottle it gets to be a little much. But very well done.

This is a very filling beer, and quite true to its name! I could not finish the bottle, as it was really like having a dense, chocolate drink. The flavor is chocolatey, rich, and slightly bitter. It has a good amount of sweetness. This is absolutely unique beer, and one I will be buying again!

12 ounce bottle poured into a tulip glass.
L--The darkest possible brown with a tan head that suck around for a couple of minutes and left some lacing.
S--Roasted malts and cocoa are prominent.
T--The best way to describe it is that it very much resembles a chocolate shake, just like the bottle says. Milk chocolate is definitely more noticable than dark, which seems odd for a porter, but, damn it, it works.
F--Mouth coating with creamy chocolateness.
O--This is a really good one, if you like chocolate.

Tasted in a 16 oz snifter from draft at O'Toole's on February 10, 2017. Look is dark brown with a foamy tan head and sticky lacing. Smell and taste is cocoa and roasted malts. Feel is medium in body.

Pours a clear deep brown with garnet highlights, producing 2+ fingers of tan, somewhat lasting, frothy head that leaves a thin wash of lacing. Aroma is chocolate coco, rich dark malt, pumpernickel, coffee, roasted nuts & toffee. Taste is semisweet dark chocolate & chocolate milk, rich dark bread & toast, coffee, roasted nuts, toffee & vanilla. Finishes sweet, bready & chocolatey with a kick of spice. Aftertaste is spicy roast, cocoa & nuts. Mouthfeel is medium bodied with medium-high carbonation, creamy, smooth & a little chewy with a degree of spiciness in the finish & dry aftertaste.

L: Frothy beer with a dark merlot color. A red glow shines through in some areas when held to the light.

S: Smells like a thick, dark chocolate malted milkshake with a hint of peanut butter. Poured it into an imperial pint glass.

T: Awesome. Boulder Beer really did a great job of perfectly combining the bitterness of dark chocolate with the classic roasted malt flavor that good porters are known for.

F: Mouthfeel is off. Feels strangely thin. Definitely lacks the creaminess that its appearance implies.

Overall: Great beer, in spite of the feel. I'd probably buy it again, but a 6-pack might be "too much of a good thing".

Dark, dark pour with a tan head. A delicious aroma of chocolate and roasted malts, out of a snifter. A light feel to the tongue with smooth chocolate tastes left behind.
Very enjoyable. Will have to find this to keep a personal stock.

From the 12 oz bottle in a snifter via a friend from work---Thanks Kevin!
This roasted tasty delight pours a dark cola brown with a nice head of off white
foam that settles to a thick ring, thin layer, and features some nice light lacing.
Nose of deeply roasted malts, heavy cocoa, subtle nutty roasted malts, and subtle
char. Flavors follow but lightly exceed by force of roast with char touched nutty malts
and deeply roasted malts blending with a heavy cocoa and a touch of cola. Nice mouth feel;
coating, rich, lightly sweet, and deeply roasted. A roast lovers dream. Very nice.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Speiglua stout glass.

Look is a dark center giving way to amber highlights around the edges of the glsss.

Lots of roast chocolate and malt on the aroma.

Starts thin and then opens up to a rich chocolaty almost peanut butter chocolate. Delicious.

Type: 16-oz. draft
Glass: Dos Equis shaker pint glass
From: Meehan’s Public House in Atlanta, Ga.
Price: $7
Purchased: Dec. 8, 2016
Consumed: Dec. 8, 2016
Reviewed as: American Porter
Misc.: N/A

Found a pretty cool beer spot close by to the hotel and headed over that on my last night in Atlanta. Wish I would have seen this the night before. Thought I had this one before, but alas I had not. Sounded pretty damn good.

Poured a pitch black color with three fingers of creamy white, rocky head when I got it. Appeared to be nitro it was that creamy. Excellent foamy lacing. Almost perfect foamy retention. (Sight - 4.25)

Smelled milk chocolate, bitter coffee, vanilla, caramel, toffee, espresso hints of hazelnut, maybe even peanut butter (wishful?). (Smell - 4.50)

Taste followed the nose, maybe not quite as good. Chocolate milk, vanilla, caramel, toffee, roasty nuts and milk chocolate. (Taste - 4.25)

Full body. Creamy texture. Average carbonation. Long, smooth finish. (Feel - 4.50)

Just loved this beer. Can’t believe I had never tried it, but I want it again. (Overall - 4.50)

Boulder Shake Porter, 5.9% ABV, 39 IBU. Pours black and thin, with a 1 finger off-white head. Nose is chocolate, malt. and milk. Taste follows, though nothing too strong, more sweet than bitter. OK Mouthfeel, overall decent.

Had both from a bottle and on nitro. Will not buy again in bottle, but will definitely order again if found on nitro. Looks is a deep brown with a nice tan head that lingers. Smells of cocoa and milk shake and coffee. I feel there is a huge difference between the bottled version which is thin and too carbonated. While on Nitro the mouth feel seems thicker (good thing) and flavors feel more pronounced.

Excellent idea for a beer offset by incredibly disruptive, palette-killing bitterness that destroys any smooth and richness this beer could've had. Immensely disappointed.

T: much like the nose, this is a sweeter chocolate beer. Very nice named
F: easy drinking, very smooth, fairly thin, but this is session porter
O: a nice surprise at old Chicago Manhattan, KS

M. y favorite beer is a porter, I also love chocolate. This beer combines my two favorite tastes and I think it's fantastic. Most chocolate Porter's have a hint of chocolate flavor, this has a little more chocolate. It almost taste like a chocolate phosphate.

This beer is crushing it on nitro around the Portland Oregon area. Friends have been raving about it for awhile. While I find it a bit to rich and dessert like for me for an occasional indulgence it hits the right spot.

This is the definition of a desert beer. Pours a pitch black color with a thin tan head. Smells of chocolate, roasted malts and a hint of coffee. Taste is dominated by semi-sweet chocolate with notes of coffee, vanilla and malt. Medium bodied and lightly carbonated, very smooth and creamy. One of the few beers that advertise chocolate and actually deliver.

I was underwhelmed by this beer. I was surprised by the reviews. Looks good, smells good, pours good, tastes bad. Mine tastes oxidized. I taste slight milk chocolate with a rust finish. It reminds of Turbo Dog, sometimes it tastes great, sometimes it tastes totally different.

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown color.

Overall: Beautiful chocolate aroma with a slight roasting touch. The taste begins with coffee roast and bittersweet chocolate. Shake has tons of cocoa flavor that’s very smooth, as well as some roasted malt and just the tiniest hint of hops at the end. This beer advertises chocolate and one of the few that does it right. Not your traditional porter, but a PERFECT dessert beer. Highly recommended.

Pours from a bottle a beautiful dark bouquet of blacks and dark browns, with a solid 1/2" of cream head. Smells of sweet chocolate. Taste is very much of chocolate, a tad bit overpowering, but at first you can taste subtle roasted barley. There is not much in terms of hops, at least that isn't masked by the roast and the chocolate additives. Too much chocolate to warrant a high score from me, but the chocolate flavor is balanced and not overly bitter, so that's a plus.

25 May 16
Old Chicago Pizza And Tap Room

Poured a pretty nice brown/black color, very nice carbonation, with a very nice one-finger plus off-white head, which also left some very nice sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, nice chocolate note, some toffee, touch of vanilla, very nice milk shake note. The taste was very nice malty, nice touch of chocolate/toffee, vanilla, very nice milk shake flavour. Medium body, ABV hidden very well. Overall, a very tasty brew.

If you're looking for a chocolate milk shake in beer form, this is it. Nearly black with a creamy, tan head. The aroma is very sweet and chocolatey with milk sugars. Smells a lot like chocolate ice cream. Flavor follows along the same lines with lots of sweet chocolate and milky notes. Feel is medium with carbonation pushing through on the end. Overall, this beer is a great dessert in itself. Not extremely complex, but an excellent execution of simple, effective flavors. Delicious.

M: Medium in body, there is a nice creaminess and moderate carbonation.

O: Overall tasty with a good chocolate kick.
