Notes / Commercial Description:
Our twist on the traditional robust American Porter, Shake Chocolate Porter is dark black in color with rich, sweet aromatics and flavors of dark chocolate, coffee and caramel. Appearance: Dark black color not heavy on the foam.

Smell: This is where this beer is truly unique. You dip your nose into the glass and you can just smell the chocolate. I love the balance between chocolate and coffee on this one.

Taste: While the smell is very heavily chocolate, it doesn't feel overtly chocolatey like other chocolate stouts (e.g. Samuel Smith's Organic Chocolate Stout). It's got great balance, light carbonation that wasn't noticeable in the first half of the glass, and a very smooth feel to it.

Mouthfeel: Not very heavy like other stouts and porters. Like a light shake (well hey, it's got shake in the name, so that explains it).

Overall: This is one of those beers you don't have to sip but you can if you want to savor. I almost wanted to chug it down like a shake I was that ready for it, but I restrained myself. It's not too heavy and not too light, so it's a nice change from the more robust porters I've had in the past. What it lacks in complexity it makes up for in its taste and smell.

Appearance: as dark as any a stout, that is to say very dark and opaque. Thick mocha head on the pour that settles to a substantial ring.
Smell: I haven't had a Yahoo in years but damned if this doesn't smell like my memory of those. Chocolate syrup like I guess. Maybe cocoa powder.
Taste: much like the nose. A little more malt as the porter part makes itself known.
Overall: interesting and tasty. Chocolate shake indeed.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

The beer is a dark chocolate black with brown coming through the edges in the light. A thick foamy mocha head holds retention well. Massive sheets of foamy lacing!

The beer smells very chocolatey and has a great milky component -- lactose sugar and cocoa powder.

The taste is superb. A lot of great milk chocolate in the front end, followed by a lactose-driven chalky finish.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied.

Overall, one of my favorite porters ever, this one. Really delicious with great appearance.
