12 ounce can into pint glass, best before 9/8/2018. Pours slightly hazy pale golden yellow color with a 1 finger fairly dense and fluffy white head with great retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the cap. Aromas of lightly tart watermelon, cucumber, pear, red apple, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of watermelon, fruity yeast, pale malts, and earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of lightly tart watermelon, cucumber, pear, red apple, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light-moderate herbal, floral, grassy, peppery bitterness; and light watermelon tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of watermelon, cucumber, pear, red apple, cracker, white bread dough, lightly toasted biscuit, herbal, floral, grass, pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice robustness and balance of watermelon, fruity yeast, pale malts, and earthy hop flavors; with an nice malt/bitterness balance. Mild lingering hop astringency after the finish, but not overwhelming. Moderately crisp/clean finishing. Light-moderate increasing dryness from lingering bitterness and carbonation. Medium-high carbonation and light-medium body; with a very smooth and moderately bready/grainy/sticky balanced mouthfeel that is good. A bit too harsh finish. Zero warming alcohol for 5.6%. Overall this is a pretty nice fruited kolsch. All around nice robustness and balance of watermelon, fruity yeast, pale malts, and earthy hop flavors; very smooth, crisp, clean, and refreshing to drink; despite the fairly harsh drying finish. Very flavorful fore the ABV. A little too bitter/hoppy than expected. Balanced watermelon, pale malts, earthy hops, and fruity yeast character. Solid take on the base style. Watermelon is not too overpowering. A nicely enjoyable offering.

The beer pours out a crystal clear pale golden straw color, with a thin white head-------------- the aromas are of watermelon, hay and grass--------------- the flavors are of sweet malt, grass and watermelon for days, the beer has a thin mouthfeel with a cloying watermelon finish---------------- overall this beer was okay - if you love watermelon then this beer is for you, I think I'm not a fan of watermelon and this beer was a little to sweet for my taste

Ever since I decided to #BumptheHump I have been finding #WatermelonWednesday to be a nice alternative to breaking up the work week. It gets even better when The CANQuest (tm) is involved, making for a glorious day!

From the CAN: "Bump 'n' Rind is a bright, refreshing Kölsch-style Beer brewed with watermelon for a fruity, lip-smacking finish. Guaranteed seedless!"

The excitement was building as I Crack!ed open the vent and suddenly, I CANnot CANtrol myself in this celebration & I performed an inverted Glug! Gasp! The horror, the horror. Actually, other than it foaming up LAMF to form two fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, bone-white head with great retention, nothing untoward happened. Color was a slightly-hazy Straw-Yellow (SRM = > 2, < 4). Nose was unmistakably watermelon, but not sweet or artificial, like CANdy, but instead like fresh, actual watermelon. Mouthfeel was on the thin side, not watery, but not much beyond it, either. Taste was very much of watermelon, but here comes a problem when reviewing to style. The taste was not in keeping with the Kölsch style, but if it were a Fruit/Vegetable Beer, I could be more lenient. It was clean and crisp, certainly, but the watermelon was an unanticipated adjunct. I liked it, but we are supposed to rate/review to style, not to taste. Heck, I was just really happy to be celebrating Watermelon Wednesday, but that is beside the point. Finish was dry, refreshing and unrelenting with its watermelon flavor. This would be a really nice Summer refresher, but I would caution against expecting a traditional Kölsch.

A thanks to the commander of the canquest, woodychandler, for this beer. Poured from a 12 oz. can.Has a light golden color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is funky, sour, very light melon. Taste is nothing like the aroma. Watermelon, a bit grainy, a touch sweet, highly crushable. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

Before I get started let me say that I cannot for the life of me understand why this brew gets such low ratings and comments. My example exhibited a high degree of presentation but was otherwise simple. Simplicity is not necessarily a negative, after all it is a Kolsch. With that said my example was overall very pleasant and highly drinkable. Very ripe socks? Please. Based on my pours there was something very wrong with that can or something very unusual with mine.

Pours a crystal clear pale straw with a low level of rising effervescence. The pour produces over 3 fingers of somewhat lasting, soap bubble frothy, white head that recedes to a cap of islands & a bubbly collar ring leaving a respectable coating of webby, streaky lacing. Aroma is fruity with watermelon pale cracker/biscuit malt, a little grain, lemon & some grassy hops. Taste is fruity/flowery watermelon bathed in biscuit & sweet grains, with notes of lemony citrus & grassy hops. Finishes with biscuit, watermelon & grass, slightly dry & lighly bitter with the bitterness increasing slightly in the shortlived aftertaste. Mouthfeel is light-medium bodied with medium-high carbonation & bite, dry throughout with a slight astringency in the aftertaste.

Look: Average
Smell: Not inviting
Feel: Nothing remarkable
Taste and overall: I very seldom dump a beer, but this one I did! Why do most of the American attempts at kolsch (style) have added fruit? Is it to mask a poor Kolsch? A good Kolsch is such a delightful beer that to spoil it with watermelon rind should be a sin.

Generic but harmless - the kolsch base is fine (dry, mildly tart wheat) but the watermelon doesn't really add much to it beyond a vague fruit flavor, easy to drink though

you have to like this kind of thing, the cheap tasting not all the way authentic fruit flavored beer, but if you do, i think this beats out something like a shocktop or the over flavored leinenkugel stuff. it isnt so sweet, which is to its credit, it still is refreshing despite the strong almost koolaid tasting watermelon flavor, but its not as sugary as it seems like it would be, especially in the smell. i do get an actual watermelon rind fresh juicy bitterness, not just the sweet flesh, which gives it some nice balance. its summery and fragrant, and its really well carbonated, almost like a soda or a seltzer, high bubbles and very active, which makes this feel summery and pleasant. i dont mind it being a little fakey, there is a market for this kind of thing, and im not sure how well actual fruit would hold up in something like this. boulder has drifted a little way from the fully craft world, i remember when their hoppy stuff was legendary where i grew up out east, but they seem more interested in things like this and the blood orange one (pulp fusion) than they are in the classic styles and the beers that appeal to the more conventional beer geeks. i do think there is a niche for these types of beers though. not my thing, but better than the alternatives...

I'm not the first person to say this, but if you can get past the smell it's a refreshing beer. Tastes great, I love watermelon to start with, and nice body. Perfect bitterness.

JuicesFlowing's review describes it better than I can, so instead of trying to reword everything he says, just read his review.

Things I agree and differ on though:

There really is something off about the smell, but it doesn't come across in the taste. I wouldn't call the watermelon flavor light, at least compared to other watermelon beers I've had, it comes across a lot more than Horny Goat's Watermelon Blonde or Leinenkugel's Watermelon Shandy. It's an easy to drink summer beer for watermelon fans, not much else to say.
