A nod to the GREAT Miles Davis...

Kinda Blue by Boulder Beer Company pours a reddish-copper color, with a small bubbly white head and very little lacing. Aromas of toast, wheat, blueberries blend wonderfully. The flavors follow the nose quite well, with bready and toasty malt flavors mixing with wheat and grainy flavors with an underlining hint of blueberries throughout. Lighter in carbonation, Kinda Blue is medium in body and extremely drinkable. A GREAT tribute to an improvisational master, and a good brew for a warm spring evening!

Appearance: Pours a somewhat hazy reddish to yellowish filling. Slight head that disappeared quite quickly.

Smell: Mild wheat, Slight hint of blueberry. Not bad, but just seems to be average.

Taste: Moderate caramel with a nice blueberry hint to it that impressed me a bit. I'm just relieved this wasn't overloaded with a blueberry flavor.

Mouthfeel: Medium carbonation, light on the way down. Easy to sip and sip again

Overall: Very average of a fruit beer and a wheat beer. I did like it, but I guess was expecting something more livelier. I probably will try again and many friends have told me they also enjoyed this brew. Cheers!

a better than average fruit beer, especially in the blueberry category where so many of these are just awful. this one pours a cloudy purpley pink color with a tinted foamy head. smells like a wheat beer, fruity and light. the blueberries add some tartness to the nose. the taste is pretty good, well balanced and not too sweet from the fruit. theres even a fairly crisp finish where some of the hops are picked up and the fruity citric yeast rounds it out well. feel is light and bubbly, perfect for a summer beer, but i think this one is even a bit too light. a fuller body might capture a bit more of the fruit flavor and draw out the experience in a good way. i dont know. overall id prefer this to many other fruity wheat beers, but you probably wont catch me buying it.

Poured into a Magic Hat #9 pint glass. Bottle says enjoy by May 23 2012.

A- Pours a dark amber color with a 3/4 inch head that retains well enough before residing at an 1/8 inch head and has fluffy, sticky lacing.

S- Hearty blueberry that seems to lean towards the maltier side of things. Kind of complex as well with notes of acai and even blackberry.

T- Glassy taste initially turns into a bready aftertaste with barely any blueberry to be found. Many sips later, still no blueberry. Strange how it can be decently pronounced in the aroma but practically nonexistent in the taste. Sweet malt keeps the beer on its feet but just barely.

M- Thin with minimal substance. Medium carbonation and a semi-light body.

O- This one left me scratching my head going "Where's the blueberry?!" Add it to the long list of failed blueberry beers.

A: Crystal clear, orangy-red honey color, foamy white head, soapy lacing.

S: Blueberry, caramel malt, wheat aroma

T: nice blueberry and what flavors are prominent and the malt kind of binds it all together

M: light bodied, smooth, creamy, somewhat sweet aftertaste.

O: good beer, nothing special but it would definitely be good on a nice hot summer day.

12 fl oz brown glass bottle served in a snifter, reviewed live:

A - Pours a nearly transparent, strange copper/brass/amber color with almost no discernible head. A bit odd looking.

S - Light artificial blueberry flavoring, oddly placed cream and stale adjunct. Smells entirely artificial and imbalanced.

T - A watery open bleeds throughout its entirety. Lacks any real wheat character. Heavy doses of caramel and artificial blueberry don't blend well. It's hopped entirely too assertively for a beer of this style, especially a fruit beer. Really just a failure on all counts. Not even built well for a cheap adjunct fruit attempt.

M - watery and thick.

D - I haven't had too many beers from the brewery yet, though I've been disappointed by the ones I have. I certainly wouldn't seek this one out.

22oz bomber.
A) Pours with a big, two finger head. Settles fairly quickly to a big bubble lacing on top. Slight haze in the body. Amber-copper in color.
S) Subtle blueberry. Grainy. Grassy.
T) Light blueberry taste. Wheaty but like a hefeweizen. The overall flavor is weak. In the aftertaste a lingering tartness.
M) Light body. Fizzy.
O) An average brew. I wouldn't consider this again but would drink it in a time of need.

THis beer poured out as a copperish color with a thin white head on top. The head fades and leaves no real lacing. The smell of the beer had some funky blueberry aromas to it that weren't overly appealing to me. The taste of the beer was decent but really not anything too special. The mouthfeel was on the thinner side and lacked the softness of most wheat beers. Overall it wasn't the greatest blueberry wheat beer out there. I'd say try a sample before ordering a whole glass.

From A bottle into a weizen glass.

A: Pours a crystal clear copper color with a hint of purple. (I was expecting it to be a little cloudy being a wheat beer). The head started off with 1 inch of white goodness that quickly dissapated into almost nothing. It has very little lacing.

S: This doesn't smell like a wheat beer. I smell malt and faint blueberries with a touch of citrus.

T: With the first sip the beer starts off like a light, amber ale with a mild blueberry flavor but falls short after that. It lacks any real defining character. It's like someone brewed an average beer and dropped some blueberry extract in it. It has almost no finish whatsoever.

M: Very Astringent, almost gritty.

O: I can understand what the brewer was going for but they fell short. It needs more blueberries and less filtering! The bottle reads "blueberry wheat beer". It has no qualities of a wheat beer. I was expecting a lot more.

Served on tap in a shaker pint glass at Delaneys in New Haven CT.

Pours a medium amber with a little foam. Not much lacing. Purplish tint.

Fruity nose, tart blueberry taste that remains in the malt. Not sweet and not overwhelming. Berry in the background, and adds to the flavor.

Blends well, balanced nicely.

Good beer.

Poured from 12 oz. bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint glass. Playing Miles Davis- "Kind of Blue" as I review :)

Appearance: Deep amber orange with a lot of bubbles and a decent two finger white head that has good retention and a light amount of lacing.

Smell: Bready Pils malts, wheat, and grains make up most of the aroma. Blueberry fruit smell is noticeable but very mild. A very light hint of grassy hops in the background. Aroma is mostly sweet and bready.

Taste: Sweet pale malts and some wheat grains dominate the taste. A mild flavor of blueberry fruits linger throughout. Blueberry is more noticeable in the finish. No noticeable hop bitterness. Taste is fairly bready and sweet.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied with a low to medium level of carbonation. Very smooth and creamy.

Overall: A decent beer overall that isn't overbearing on the sweetness which is a problem I find in a lot of fruit beers. That said I still think the blueberries could of been a little stronger.

Proper American barbeques usually feature at the very least a choice of desserts, maybe two or three. Better would be a sampler tray. Best is when the desserts take up a table larger than the grill. I found myself in just such a situation, staring down an assembly of sweets and sugars that added a few more courses to my outdoor meal. The fruits were sweet, the brownies expertly browned, but my final dessert came as a surprise. The Boulder Beer Blueberry Wheat was a surprising conclusion to a parade of sweets, holding its own against the chewables. The aroma is surprisingly thick; many fruit beers have a thin vapor of fruit, but the Boulder Beer Blueberry Wheat was passionately blue and berry. The body is thin, leaving room for the acidic fruit flavor, which starts strongest with the early sip, but keeping a strong consistency through the aftertaste. The blueberry really does feature as the central flavor of this beer, delivering a bright, Spring flavor on a backdrop of clean, wheat flavor. Beers that graft fruit flavors to some light beer style tend to disappoint, but this is a very welcome exception.

Pours a dirty copper/amber color with a nice light head that dissipates fast but leaves a bit on the walls of the glass.

Smells slightly syrupy, bits of wheat, and of course some fruit notes but nothing screaming blueberries.

Ehhh, where is the blueberries? Even if its "kinda", its not much. I dont taste much wheat in this either. There is a faint sourness from the fruit with a grain finish. Not bad, but I was hoping for more fruit character.

Light, fizzy, and a good serve-cold-hot-weather beer.

Overall this is my wife's pick and she likes it so thats what matters. This one is a bit old so I will update this review if we come across a fresher one in the future.

Poured my bottle into my trust downey's pint glass. Poured a nice coppery orange color with no head. Smell is wheat grains and blueberry but not to strong. The blueberry definately smells artificial no fresh smell there. The beer tastes about the same not overly blueberry with wheat notes hieghtened by the slight carbonation. This beer is not overly exciting and I will probably never visit it again had other blueberry beers I liked better.

Looks like a regular wheat beer. No blue tinge at all to it. And there wasn't any blueberry detectable in the nose. What gives?

Mild berry taste, very mild, wouldn't know it was blueberry unless you read the label, just was reminiscient of a boring palateable wheat beer. Blase.

Even when drank in summer, this one fell flat. Glad I only bought a single of it, but even at $1.49, there are much better options. Pass.

Sipping it at the office right now wrapping up a Friday.

The beer pours well like a wheat should, though the typical head from a wheat beer disipates quickly.

Smell leaves a lot to be desired. Blueberry has to fight to stand out. I am used to a fruit beer having the fruit take center stage on your nose.

The taste is average. As others have said the blueberry really shows what it is lacking once it hits your lips. Get more a malty sweetness than a fruitiness.

I am picking up some diacytl on the tounge in the form of slickness. Not out of character for the style though.

Overall I give is a 2.5 because well lets face it we should expect more out of our beers and when they don't live upto expectations we all suffer. I will say that for the $5 price tag it is for sure a beer that I would drink again.

A - Poured out a clear, copper color with a reddish hue. It had a small, white head of bubbly foam that left little to no lace.

S - It smelled of blueberry and some wheat. Not much else.

T - It tasted of blueberry, some caramel and some mild wheat.

M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A light bodied ale with a dry, clean finish.

O - This is an okay blueberry wheat. Still not my favorite style, but not bad.

From 07/16/11 notes. Poured from a 22 oz. bottle into a pint glass, and drank with a piece of blueberry pie.

a - Pours a hazy orange color with one inch of fluffy white head and moderate carbonation evident. No lacing or real retention.

s - Smells of very light blueberries, wheat, and bread.

t - Tastes of wheat, grain, bread, and very light blueberries; less blueberries than the nose. A step down from the nose.

m - Medium body and low carbonation. Pretty easy to drink.

o - A prettyy average wheat beer, with just the slightest hint of blueberries. My girlfriend likes fruitier beers but even she didn't really care for this one. Wouldn't seek it out again.

A: Light copper color. Produced a small white head that dissipated rather quickly. Very thin lacing.

S: Wheat, malt and a hint of blueberries.

T: Similar to smell. Wheat, malt and a hint of blueberries. The finish has mild blueberry accents to it.

M: Medium-bodied. Moderate carbonation. A good choice for a summer beer that has a twist of blueberries.

O: Easy to drink summer beer. The blueberry taste is and not too overbearing.

Nice looking beer. Hazed golden amber. Nice beige head leaves decent lace. Aroma is of mashed blueberries and wheat tang. Flavor follows suit and it is a good summer quaffer. The blueberry is not too dominating, which is good. It mixes in nicely with the wheat base to create a nice, refreshing midsummer beer.

A: has a nice hazy golden appearance, little head
S: very nice gentle blueberry scent with slight underlying wheat smell
T: the taste of this beer is by far its greatest strength, blueberry is present mid sip through the finnish and does not overpower the brew
M: smooth on the palate slight carbonation
O: I really love this for hot days because its so refreshing and so light that you can have 10 of them and be just fine

Boulder Kinda Blue is a lively, hazy amber ale with a small white head that quickly vanishes. The aroma is pretty fruity, but it doesn't immediately register as blueberry. Tangy malt, something doughy and floral hops are just as prominent in the nose. It's medium-light bodied and very lively. The finish is pretty crisp and clean. Slightly sweet malt is probably the most prominent flavor, along with a very slight green bitterness at the finish. There is an obvious fruitiness to it, but I wouldn't have guessed there was any blueberry in this if it wasn't for the label. I was slightly disappointed by this, because I had my blueberry boots on when I cracked it open. It's very malt-centric and not very fruity. That's sort of the opposite of what I usually look for in a blueberry ale. Nonetheless, it's not bad.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Sam Adams perfect pint.

This beer is a deep golden color with some red highlights on the thicker part of the glass. Head is tiny, especially for a wheat. Aroma is pretty generic, a touch of fruitiness and some wheat. Also quite weak. The taste is alright, there's mostly wheat at first, then some blueberries. There's also something here that just tastes a little off, especially as it warms up. The mouthfeel is alright, and the drinkability is also fairly good. There's nothing really special here. Not my favourite fruit beer.

On tap as part of Old Chicago's American beer mini tour. "Boulder Kinda Blue" it said on the wall.

Pour was a light shade of pink hued-copper with no head to speak of.

Smells faintly of some sort of berries, but mostly of malt possibly grain matter of fact I wouldn't have known it was supposed to be blueberries here until I read these reviews.

Taste is berries flavoring and malt. Not very good really. Some off-putting bitterness appears which is unexpected and also not good. Mouthfeel was medium and well carbonated.
