12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass
Pours a very dark brown that is near to black in color with about a finger of tan head that lingers for a bit. Aroma is fairly one-dimensional with a generally roasty aroma. Its generally just roasty but there do, at times, seem to be some chocolate and caramel undertones. Taste is much like the aroma, a first just roasty, then a bit acrid. The acrid flavor appears mid way through the taste and leaves just before the finish which is characteristically dry with a mild bitterness. The acrid flavor seems to stick with me a bit and I feel that I may be being a bit over-critical in terms of rating because of it. Mouthfeel is pretty good, medium-light body with moderate carbonation. If the slightly harsh acrid flavor, which seems to have dulled a bit over the course of the glass, were less pronounced this would be an easy rinking porter. It doesn't really have any hop flavor coming through so maybe with the subtraction of some roasted malts this could be a nice brown porter.

12 oz. Bottle
Pours a pretty nice dark brown color, pretty nice carbonation, with a pretty nice one-finger light tan head, which leaves some sticky lacing behind. The nose is malty, with some chocolate/toffee, slight vanilla, nutty. The taste is malty, chocolate/toffee, nutty, with some vanilla. Medlium body. Overall, a nice little brew.

Brown pour, looks equal parts brown ale and porter, this is on the thinner side, less than half an inch of off white head. Aroma was mildly roasted, not much else.
Taste came in as suspected, brown malt, chocolate malt, minimal bitterness, not much mouthfeel, something a little bigger than a brown ale, a little smaller than a porter. It did allow the flavor to come through in the mouthfeel somewhat nicely, but this is a very much gateway kind of porter for the person thinking about upgrading from Newcastle.
Average.

This beer is about a year past its date.
Toffee, deeply caramelized malt, toffee, and molasses dominate the aroma. There's a touch of chocolate and roast malt, along with dark fruit, but the buttery toffee dominates. Flavor reveals that fruity malt/acrid character at the base, with a lightly roasted, lightly bitter finish. Nutty malt dominates the flavor. A little heavy on toast and lacking in chocolate, but a very approachable brew.
