Notes:
PRE-PROHIBITION AMERICAN LAGER
SURLY NATION, 'TIS FOR THEE, SWEET BEER OF LIBERTY!
Light gold in color, #Merica! is an old-school pre-Prohibition American Lager that was brewed in 2015 for the Annual D4th of July party put on by the Minneapolis-based punk band Dillinger Four. One of the only beer styles truly born in the U.S.A, pre-Prohibition American Lagers used corn as an integral part of the flavor profile, rather than as a simple substitute for barley malt. The flaked corn used in #Merica! comes across as a subtle, fresh corn flavor, while soft hop aromatics come from Warrior and Willamette hops, which add a mild fruity, herbal character that stays in the background. #Merica! is perfect for a hot summer day and celebrating the country’s birthday and 21 years of Dillinger Four.

L-Light straw color...minimal head
S-Corn..herbal hops
T-The corn taste reminds me of an cheap old macro lager from the 80's we'd buy occasionally. I can't place it but thinking maybe Lucky Lager? Perhaps I'm thinking of Rolling Rock... Either way, very strong corn grit flavor. I like it. I don't like the hops used. Not that I don't like the hop flavor. Floral and spicy with some grapefruit peal like citrus. The problem is it kind of overwhelms the corny flavor and I want to taste the corny flavor more.
F-Light bodied. Pretty dry and somewhat bitter on the finish.
O-Worth a try but I won't revisit.

apparently designed for the budweiser drinkers, im not sure its dumbed down quite enough to satisfy those folks, but i guess it gets pretty close. a pale yellow beer, lagered patiently, with a good foamy white head on it. it smells and tastes too hoppy to be a bud replacement, there is a lot of grassy hops, bitter and lingering later on, and i think that might turn off the bud guy a little bit. for what its worth, the malt part seems to be right on, maybe not rice based, but there is very likely some corn in here in addition to very pale barley malt. a nice bready slightly sweet cereal flavor rises up where it should. fresher and more flavorful than a bud, but the inspiration is clear. carbonation is through the roof, that helps this slightly fuller bodied and sweeter lager remain really drinkable. the hops take over a bit in the finish, not that its hoppy, just hoppy for the style. drink this quickly though, it really starts to come undone when it warms up a bit. i would suggest right from the can, maybe at a nascar race...

Cheers to you Surly for sticking it to ABInbev with this marketing campaign! They only wish their beer tasted this good and was brewed by a truly American company. This is not my favorite beer style but I can appreciate the craftsmanship that went into making this beer. Surly always does an excellent job of showcasing hops and with this beer they have captured the true complexity of flavors in the Willamette hops. Lemony, grassy, cat piss with lingering bitterness and a clean drying finish. The malt is biscuity and delicious but very well balanced by the hops. Aroma is corn, hay, cat piss. Definitely better consumed cold. Appreciate the price break on this beer at $5.99 a 4 x 16oz. Put this in a case and I'll have all my BMC relatives drinking Surly this 4th of July! #merica!

Can into a solo cup @ MSP. Light golden color with variable density white head. Nose wasn't overly expressive or potent, a bit grassy. Taste was great, grassy and crisp with subtle corn poking through. Finish could've been a bit cleaner, but still enjoyable. Mouthfeel was a bit bubbly, carbonation a little on the high side. Enjoyable pilsner, but there's better ones out there.

This is definitely an American style light adjunct lager. Pale yellow color. Light, subtle earthy hop smell. Firm crisp taste with solid hop buttering. Light crackery Pils taste, heavy on adjunct for a dry finish. Firm hop presence. Above average American adjunct lager.

16oz can drained into my gullet.
Aromas of bitter hop and pine resin. Taste adds a sweet malt to the bitterness for some nice balance. With the high carbonation and light mouthfeel this one is for all day drinking. If this is all there was to beer, I'd be happy. Because it exists along with all the others I'm ecstatic.
Lager beer is my friend and now it has flavor again.

Thanks to Jeff for this one. 16oz. can into a Surly teku. Shared with schen9303.
That "fizzy yellow beer" look. Nose is clean and crisp. Light with a bight hop bitterness and just the slightest bit of tartness. Opens foamy. Flavor is sweet with an accented hop bite at the end. Decent. Light bodied with ample carbonation. Soft and bubbly on the palate and goes down dry and crisp. Real drinkable.
Just because its not a double or wild or lambic or barrel aged or 15% alcohol, doesn't mean it can't be good. #Merica is a drinkable offering that shows what the pale lager style can be when done right. Worth trying.
