Canned 7/27/18, tasted 4/23/19. Not the freshest, though it is 9%. Not very bubbly, has that diminished over time? Look is a bit cloudy. Smell is not much. Taste is like an underhopped Pilsner that finishes too sweet. Not bad, but not great. I was hoping for drier, more effervescent, and brighter flavors overall. endsnds up tasting like a average tripel, where are the grapefruit and black currants?

Pours a crystal clear honey yellow with a thick white cap that recedes quickly. Minimal lacing. Aroma is banana bread with some faint citrus. Flavor is sweet with banana and a touch of spice. Feel is light and crisp. Decent carbonation. Overall a tasty brew that hides its ABV well.

Poured into a high gravity glass dark golden liquid with a finger and a half of loose white foam that receded quickly.
Smells earthy biscuits, banana bread.
Tastes somewhat Belgian with some banana/malt slight clove/spice. Sweetness throughout. Just a flash trace of bitter/sour must be either the currant or grapefruit.
Medium body. 9% ABV catches up with you.
Not one of my favorites from the BC Small Batch series which started out with the fantastic Inside the Upside Down. This particular beer is totally reminiscent of a run of the mill Belgian with a high ABV.

When does a imperial lager cross the line to malt liquor? Quality grainy taste and aroma. This isn't that old but any fruit has mostly disappeared at least to my senses. A pinkish hue wrapped in the very clear golden orange body with a firm white head. A little tartness to the aroma otherwise a grain quality. The grapefruit and berry is so faint as to be almost undetectable if not to be searched for. More black currant taste and a light tartness with a very soft grapefruit flavor.
They are nice but so so mild. Moderate lager body but still clean and crisp feel. Not really a champagne feel. Maybe a little effervescence, but not that much.
Frankly I was hoping for more. And I'm still struck how this is awfully close to a malt liquor, which isn't all bad. I like big lagers, but may reminds me more than I want.

This beer pours clear gold with a large head. The aroma is yeast driven, with notes of green apple, green banana, clove, and hints of graham cracker. The flavor is more mellow than the aroma with underripe banana, fresh baked bread, green apple, black currant, sunflower seeds, and graham crackers. The mouthfeel is fairly full with effusive carbonation. Overall this is a nice, unique little beer - rather saison like, but more fruit driven, with only hints of spice.

16 oz. canned on 07/27/18, 9% ABV Champagne-Inspired Lager Brewed with Grapefruit & Blackcurrant.
Clear amber color with a finger of head that settles to a thin film. Some lacing is left down the glass. Aroma that is slightly fruity with a hint of grapefruit. Not sure what to make of the flavor. The label claims dry and effervescent, but I get sweet and cloying. I guess the carbonation is lively but I would not claim effervescent. Fruity flavor. Big bodied. Just not much there and another questionable Surly release. I guess I can be thankful it was not another expensive bomber.

10 oz. pour at Surly. Fantastic on a hot day. Tasted of crip currant as advertised. Not overly sweet.
