Pours out a darkish orange in color with a small whitish head that seems to have a slight tinge of brown. There's no doubt the nose is piny with some fruity grapefruit/tiny bit or orange with no resin or anything like that. Taste is slightly malty with a little bit of the piny hop flavor to balance things out. Really well balanced. Mouthfeel is fairly thick for the style which is a nice surprise as I haven't really thought critically about this beet for some time. Overall I really understand why this beer is so well respected. It's just a great beer.

Well whaddya know? Surly has returned to Chicago with cans instead of kegs. Nice to try this for the first time. 16 oz. can purchased at MSCM. 10 oz. into a FFF Rastal on December 6th, 2013.

A - Super nice coloring. Deep amber with blood red hints. 3 fingers of a pillowy, billowing light tan head. Good retention, great lacing. Slight legs.

S - Lots of depth in the hop character. Mint, green tea, orange pulp, soft grass, honey almonds. Touch of sugar in the malt.

T - The bitterness is very sharp, puckering in a way. Straight lemon and lime juice. Tarry pine. I get the lightest trace of rye bread in the back, but it doesn't do much to balance. Greatly prefer the aroma.

M - Medium body, high carbonation, very lengthy bitter finish.

D - Shame about the taste, this started off so well otherwise. I'd still reach for Zombie Dust first if I had to pick.

Surly Brewing Company, Minnesota
---from can to pint glass---

Medium amber looks like there is some sediment floating at the bottom, very thick beige head, OK lacing.

Super citrusy, super piney, floral notes.

Bitter pine with insinuations of sweet malt.

Perfect balance of hops to malt. Good carbonation. Lingering flavor begs for another sip.

I’m really digging this beer. Great taste with good balance, not too hoppy (if such thing exists). Definitely one my Go-To list now. Smells perfect!
