Surly says..."Cloaked amid the brewhouse shadows, rites and rituals conjure impossible hop flavor. Over the low rumble of equipment, whispers of a triple dry-hopped beer arise". Brewed with Simcoe, Amarillo, Citra, and Mosaic hops, this 10%abv bev is a hop bomb and paired nicely at a rib bbq!!!

Pours nearly crystal clear, medium amber, and with a remarkably ample foamy head for the ABV. Excellent lacing.

The aromas are classic heavy-hitter IPA. Citrus rind, prominent pine, honey, and some incredible strong old-school earthy IPA hop notes.

The flavors follow the nose in spades. Honey-sweet malts are the strong base of the brew, and hit the tip of the tongue hard, but the earthy and grassy hop notes quickly wash over the mid-palate. Pine resin and booze crash the finish. The booze isn't a burn, but it isn't particularly well-hidden either, although at 10% ABV no one should complain. That said, the burn is pretty strong in this one.

The brew has a fairly full feel, but some nice carbonation and a drying finish, for all of its malt backbone.

Overall, a tasty, boozy, and very old-school IPA earthy take on the style. A bit out of balance, and a bit over-boozed, even for the style, but still pretty tasty.

Golden orange with a good capmof persostent foam. Looks good. Smells delicious with mango, citrus and papaya. Taste isn’t following the smell, there is some citrus presence however much more breads & malt, bitterness of a citrus pith nature, confusing somewhat yeasty character and to further the discord there’s some heat from the 10% ABV. Mouthfeel is medium, decent heft, holds together. Overall this triple IPA from Surly isn’t doing for me in the taste department.

Served in a 10oz glass. Great hoppy flavor. The 10% abv is not evident. The mouthfeel is a little thin. Overall I like this beer, but not sure it’s worth the cost. I’d definitely order it again though.

3DH pours a bronze color, with a hint of red, with not much of a lacing head. Hoppy aroma, with hints of earth, overall pretty balanced. Flavor is big hops, a little dry aftertaste, hints of earth. Good body and feel, with a little kick. Overall, a very good IPA, nice hop flavors, love the dryness.

16oz, canned on 08/21/18. Mildly hazy apricot colored ale with a thinner ivory head. Fruity aroma with tropical mango and a bit boozy. Hot and boozy, which overpowers the flavors of apricot, mango, orange, grapefruit, pine, and caramel malt. Full body, ample carbonation, very boozy, with a bitter finish. Good, but not great like most of the original Surly lineup, which makes this a disapointment.

From a 16oz can:

Appearance: Gold, good head.

Smell: Nice sweet fruit, tropical fruits and pineapple.

Taste: Sweet, boozy, with moderate citrus bitterness in the finish.

Overall: I keep trying triple IPAs but the vast majority just have too much booziness. Surly's version is all right, but still has a little too much alcohol hit to it. Pretty good, but a one and done.

Tasted in a Rastal Teku from a one pint can on September 2, 2018. A triple dry hopped triple IPA brewed with Amarillo, Citra and Simcoe hops. Very good.

Golden color. Not hazy. Tastes more like a double than a triple. Not super strong, bitter, or malty, which is nice for a triple. Some tropical notes and some earthy/floral. Decent.

Not sure what others are on about for this one. Yeah - it’s not a hazy IPA. What it is astounds, though. Great color, solid nose, nuanced mouthfeel, not super hot for a triple and clean finish. Don’t care what it’s “not”. Super happy with what it is.

Despite the first attempt, very happy to FINALLY see Surly doing some smaller batch one-offs. Hope this is a trend. 16 oz. can.

The pour is clear golden: no haze here. I can almost hear the sound of its rating falling like a NE brick. Smell is light for something so heavily dry hopped: mild citrus, sweet lemon. Mild.

3DH Triple IPA is a light thrown from under the door marked “2012”. Big malt hit right up front, heavy, sweet, almost leaning into honey. The hops can’t stand in the way of the malt wave: mild bitterness, mild citrus, shot of alcohol, not much else. Honey. Lots of honey. Very thick & heavy. Split the can with my wife & happy I did.

Surly, what happened? Do you need to intern with newcomer Blackstack to regain your mojo? This isn’t bad, it’s just a malt-heavy style of IPA that should have gone extinct years ago. Pretty good beer.

This beer pours a chill hazed orange with a solid head. The aroma is bright and fruity, with tart lemon flesh and lemon peel, grapefruit flesh, pineapple, kiwi, tangerine, and mango. The flavor features a pleasant melange of fruit, with tangerine, mango, pineapple, kiwi, papaya, and pineapple. The mouthfeel is full and sweet with mild carbonation. Overall the flavors here are pleasant, but a bit simple. The general impression is one of tropical fruit salad, with a big dose of sweetness of virtually no bitterness, which would be nice in some amount due to the overt sweetness.

Pours a slight hazed golden yellow color with a white head. Smell had muted citrus hops with some tropical dankness. Taste was bland with citrus it had some garden dankness, but otherwise boring with non decrypt hopprofile some malts in finish. Mouth feel was soft with ABV well hidden with medium carbonation and an overly sweet finish.. A boring DDH 3IPA,

Canned 8/21/18; drank 9/5/18 @ the Yarchives.

See-through orange appearance.

A violent pour yielded a nice off-white head; thick, frothy lace.

Orange peel, brown sugar & mild pine notes in the nose.

Sticky medium mouthfeel.

Tangy grapefruit, table sugar & mild pine flavors; mild booze heat emerged as this warmed.

Yeah, it's triple dry hopped, but this is old-model IPA abrasiveness that I'm just not into.
