In the immortal words of JFK: “We chose to make this hazy IPA not because it is easy, but because it is hard.” The good news is, it’s easy to drink. Brewed with Mosaic, Citra, and Amarillo hops for a juicy flavor that will send you straight to the moon.

Surly Space Race DNEIPA, 9.5%. Pours clearish pale yellow with a two finger white head that left little lacing. Nose is very light tropical fruit, pepper, and citrus. Taste follows, plus some pine and grass, slightly sweet, slightly bitter. Excellent mouthfeel, overall excellent. I wouldn't have classified this a NEIPA/DNEIPA, seems more like a DIPA.

Canned on 4/7/20.
A - Medium orange color with some haze, dense lacing on top, and steady carbonation.
S - Juicy mango, tropical fruit, stone fruit, and citrus with a slight bit of peppery spice.
T - Juicy stone fruit, tropical fruit, citrus, some orange, and delicate dank floral buried below.
M - Thick, slick, and with some sugary smacks on the lips.
O - The ABV detection runs low in this beer. Well balanced. Juicy. Dangerously drinkable. 'Nuff said - recommended.

Holy--! Wait, not just a double IPA, or a hazy IPA, or a DDH, but...are you fucking with me? No! OMG! The latest entrant in the race to be all the things that the modern beer geek just straight up adores.
It's all hazed up, with a bright golden tint, and voluminous ivory head. Looking good.
In the nose: There's that DDH aroma everyone digs. Kind of a soft, muted melange of citrus and pine, a fuzzy, hazy whirl of what we like.
In the mouth: Intense, hoppy bite from the start, a big burst of bitterness boarding the palate. Just a touch of sweet, and a little dance with the bitter. All is calm and mellow, and pretty much delicious. Tasty stuff. Juicy. Citrusy. Dry. Nice. This one's got it going on.

6/19/19 (Chicago): $5.56 w/ tax 16 oz can purchased at Beer on the Wall, canned 4/30/19 @ 8;31, poured into pint glass. Bronze murky color pour, light fluffy white head leaves decent lacing. Mild citrus and grassy aroma. Very dry and bitter taste, citrus hops flavor, bitterness very strong, lack of balance. Light carbonation holds, very bitter after taste. Surly shoots for extremes and typically prevails, but this offering is a bitter one note pour.

Hazy, dirty orange with a half finger of short-lived tan-tinted head. Very little lacing.
Modest aroma of orange, a little stanky herb and pepper.
The taste has burnt orange, smokey herbs, grass, light weed and some slightly abrasive alcohol.
Thin bodied for a DIPA with prickly carbonation.
Decent tasting, but the other aspects are middle-of-the-road at best. Might be better if it weren’t New England style?

Space race pours a bronze color, with no head at all. Big giant , creamy sweet aroma. Flavor is sweet, and dry, hints of hops, and dry fruit. Bitter finish. Good body and feel. Overall, a much bigger, although ugly, new england IPA.
