12oz can - review from notes

This was an enjoyable little brew - lots of tropical juice flavor along with a satisfying amount of amber malt, like the old school ipa's I came up on

I got a can of this beer off the single shelf from a beer store in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. It poured a slightly hazy golden with white head that is leaving some lace. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with apricot and melon flare. The scent had tropical fruit notes. The mouthfeel was lighter in body with good carbonation. Overall it is a solid beer.

Mostly clear, bright golden, slim white head.

In the nose: bold citrus, lemon and orange, grapefruit, tangerine. Vibrant and fruity.

In the mouth: Bright, fruity, and juicy. Moderate bitterness. Medium bodied, light malt, tasty all the way. Long bitter finish, lasts and lasts on the palate. Lemon remains the forward flavor, with flashes or grapefruit and orange. Altogether, very satisfying.

I finished this 6-pack with utter abandon. Yeah, I'll have another.

Appearance: Pours a clear, bright medium orange color with a soft, white head. SRM of 9-10. (3.75)

Aroma: Very tropical on the nose. There is tropical strawberry, watermelon, honeydew, green melon. mango, peach, and mandarin orange. A bit of green apple, lemon, and green grape. A tropical sweetness lingers. (4.00)

Flavor: Flavor follows with strong strawberry, tropical watermelon, honeydew, and green melon, that evolves into a peach and pineapple flavor. Some bittering OJ pith follows with a mango and berry sweetness on the end. A tropical Asian fruit sweetness lingers. Juicy and sweet. (4.00)

Feel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. A decent amount of OJ astringency lingers for a relatively bitter finish. (4.00)

Compared to Furious IPA 9/5/20: Pours a lighter color. More tropical aromas and flavors. More mango, citrus, strawberry. Less pine, caramel, and pinecones. Much more juicy and sweet.

Compared to Bell's Two Hearted IPA 9/5/20: Pours a lighter color. More juicy tropical aromas and less stonefruit. A similar sweet and bitterness profile.

Compared to SN Hazy Little Thing 9/27/20: Pours a slightly darker and less hazy color. Stronger aromas/flavors of juicy strawberry, peach, grapefruit. It's much more juicy.

Compared to Surly's Direct Current IPA 10/10/20: Pours a similar, but slightly darker color. More strawberry, melon, and Asian fruit. Less grapefruit citrus and onion. Similar juiciness.

Overall: A fantastically delicious, juicy IPA. Yet, it has a strong pithy bitterness, which I suppose is the west-coast addition. It's juicy, however, and not piney at all. Strong strawberry, green and tropical melon, peach, citrus, and berry flavors. Relatively sweet, and sort of like an east-coast IPA, but the pithy bitterness brings it full circle to the west-coast. Uniquely, it has an juicy, tropical Asian fruit profile. (Final Rating: 4.04)

Poured from 12 oz can into shaker pint glass.
A: Pours a clear yellow hue with moderately active carbonation jets fueling a 1-2 inch bubbly white head with decent retention.
S: Funky pine, lime, lemon, and subtle notes of coconut, peach, and mint.
T: Tangerine, coconut, mint, lime, funky pine, and a hint of cream.
M: Light body. Tropical fruit with creamy coconut.
D: A good representation of the sabro hop. Worth a try.

Totally solid and enjoyable ipa...the hop bill is new to me, but I dig it: a mix of citrus, a little orchard fruit, and a touch of piney bitterness. Construction is solid. Glad I bought a sixer.

Poured from a can into a Nonic pint.

Pours slightly hazed light gold with good head and lacing.

Peach, apricot, mango, grass, chive, and resin aromas. Inviting but muted.

The brew is tropical sweet on the tip of the tongue with mango and pineapple, followed by peach, nectarine, white plum, and apricot. Mid-stream brings grassy hops and grainy notes. Excellent herbal and resin notes close the show with just a touch of booze.

The brew is actually a little heavier than anticipated. Not medium-full but solidly medium. Somewhat creamy and slick. Drying at the finish from the hops and mild alcohol.

A solid brew that feels like a return to Surly's roots--nothing gimmicky--just a good strong IPA.

Aroma is tropical fruit and strong/nutty West Coast IPA hops. The flavor is tropical fruit, slightly odd foam initially malts/grains, fruit and a West Coast hop finish.
