Brownish black body, edges are certainly lighter, khaki head. Cocoa, watery coffee, baker's chocolate and roasted malt nose. Taste is much the same, gets some vanilla wanting to emerge but it never gets to fruition. The body is thin but not watery like the smell and taste, malts lead with mild roast. Just want more umph to this one, even for a style that is lighter

My first review in ages. Dark brown with small head which shrinks quickly. Smell of chocolate.
Taste overbearing of chocolate and sugar. Not getting much coffee out of it. Mouthfeel is sweet and slighly cloying but not overly so. Not enjoying. Could be that I've had too much sweet foods during the festivities but I find this very sickly at present.

330 ml bottle, from Vinmonopolet. ABV is 6.8%. Black colour, moderate beige head. Aroma of roast malts, cocoa powder and weak coffee. The flavour has distinct cocoa / chocolate and vanilla, but is not too sweet. Some slight fruity hints, moderate notes of roast malts and coffee. Not bad.

L- Effectively pitch black, even held up to a light. Pours with pillowy 1Cm tan head. Slowly clearing, but never has time to reduce to lacing before being finished.
S- Prominent cocoa, like opening a can of cocoa powder and sniffing it.
T- Pungent chocolate, ie cocoa, into a long ever deeper pungent finish
F- The 6.8% comes over nicely, against a balancing richness and warmth. This to me is a classic deep-winter warmer. Something to be slowly savoured sitting by a log fire.
O- It's not cheap, but I think this it's good value for money; this is very different (a fan would recognise this in a blind tasting immediately), and very polished. Zero negative points to note; it's just a case of whether you favour a beer that genuinely and seriously tastes primarily of deep/darker chocolate.

Pours a very dark, almost black color with a small beige head that dissolves quickly. Aroma is of dark and milk chocolate and cocoa with notes of coffee and roasted malts. The taste starts of sweet with strong notes of dark and bitter chocolate and cocoa. The finish has a good balanced bitterness with roasted malts and chocolate strongly in the background. The aftertaste has a good lenght as well, and the flavours are balanced well. Medium body with a mild carbonation and a smooth and silky mouthfeel.
An enjoyable and good tasting porter,

I've boycotted Thornbridge ever since they went miniature but was in the mood for something chocolatey.

Definitely smells of cocoa. Tastes like whisky more than anything but there is some chocolate in there. Dry in the finish with a bitter, citrussy, whisky like aftertaste. Also some rhubarb crumble.

Not great. The least good stout in Waitrose and not a patch on Thornbridge's delectable St Petersburg.

Deep and dark, practically black. A fairly brief good sized tan head with large bubbles, fading quickly. Sweet, fairly rich nose with chocolate and vine fruits. Excellent first taste. The richness and chocolate of the aroma is confirmed and moreso. It has plenty of sweetness and there is some raisin there too and a sense of coffee in the bitterness, which has a pleasant burnt edge to it. The brewer's description is borne out in the taste. Quite delicious.
