Pint on keg in the newly opened craft beer pub, The Libertine in Worthing, UK.

L - Very pale in colour. Looking very much like a lager despite being an ale. 1 finger head with lots of carbonation.

S - As said by others, this is the best attribute of the beer. VERY tropical notes. Mainly pineapple and mango. Smells wonderful.

T - The taste is very floral and pine-like. Very hoppy as well. This was very cold on keg and therefore I feel some of the flavour was lost. Probably more flavoursome on cask or bottled slightly chilled.

F - As above really. The pint I had in keg was very cold and highly carbonated. Gave this much more of a lager-like mouth feel. However a very crisp finish on the palate.

O - The smell really stood out for me. Didn't follow through as well with flavour and feel. Would really like to try on cask as I think it would be a much more complete IPA.

Surprisingly pale in appearance. Smells very appealing with leafy citrus from the hops and an underlying sweet graininess from the malt. The aroma gets a bit foul after a while, not sure what that's about. The taste is mouth-watering—lots of bitterness and acidic bite from the hops, but the hop flavor has lots of juicy grapefruit and the bitterness is neatly enveloped by creamy carbonation and light, malty sweetness. Very satisfying!

From www.elcervecero.es. playing Kings Bounty Dark Side, in Legado de Yuste cup. Unpleasant taste, like detergent, but not as bad as the Shipwrecked DIPA

500ml bottle served in two half-pint lots

Look: Very, very pale yellow - almost lager-like. Thick, white head with decent retention which leaves behind a moderate amount of lacing. No sediment or haze of any description, which sort-of reinforces the 'lager' look.

Smell: Hops with a hint of sweet maltiness - the hop aromas are more towards the citrus/floral end of the scale rather than being overwhelmingly resinous but there's a wee hint of that in there as well. Overall, quite a zingy, zesty smell which improves if left at ambient temperatures for a while.

Taste: More of the same, although the malts are a bit more apparent. This is still a fairly hop-forward brew, though, with a long, grassy and slightly astringent bitterness which tails off nicely to let the malts shine through at the end. It's not a massively complex flavour profile by any means, but it's far from one-dimensional either.

Feel: If there's one failing then it's that the mouthfeel is a bit, well, lager-y - fairly watery with a fair bit of fizz. I was reminded of their Wild Swan, although admittedly that only has an ABV of around 3.5%, not nearly 6% like this.

Overall: I've yet to find a Thornbridge beer that I don't like and this one is no exception - in a lot of ways it reminded me of a stronger version of their equally good 'Wild Swan' pale ale. I don't think it's as good as their St. Petersburg stout, and although there are far hoppier IPAs out there this one is up there with the best of them in an increasingly overcrowded market. Overall, pretty darned good.

Pint at JDW Sutton (Surrey)

A: Fairly pale, Initally cloudy which cleared into a moderate haze, moderate retention and lacing.

S: Sour apples and citrus.

T: A hit of bitterness which kept on giving, some apple and tomato long lingering bitter finish.

M: Crisp, low carbonation, bitterness which gave a slightly coarse edge.

O: A good pint, it required a few sips to adjust to the bitterness, but at that point it became very quaffable.

Gorgeous 5 cm head on a pale gold (maybe SRM 5) beer, smell is intense lemony with some cedar. Lemony, bitter taste, nicely balanced with a lingering stone fruit flavor.
