A: Pours the deepest dark brown with mahogany highlights when held to light. A thin foamy tan head recedes and almost completely disappears. No lacing, yet still beautiful.

A: Oak and strong booze take center stage, followed by dark fruits of raisin, plum, dates, and fig blending into sweet malts showcasing toffee and caramel.

T: Yup! Follows that and then some. All the descriptions above really do share their equal part and the ending result is brilliant. Oak and bourbon sweetness linger in the aftertaste.

F: Rich, smooth, and slick with bitter and sweet battling for dominance in each sip. Alcohol warmth once again is very prominent.

O: Overall, this is amazing BA Barleywine. I find the booze a bit much and very detectable in each of the categories, but don't really think that's an issue nor would I want it dialed down. Cheers!

Poured from 22 oz bomber dated 11/5/2012. Huge shout out to @cavedave for the bottle!

A: Murky mahogany brown with a purplish tint. Smallish one finger head that settles immediately to a thin ring. Almost no lacing.

S: Raisins, dates, figs, and sweet bourbon front and center. Bits of toffee, caramel, and molasses. A little oak barrel in the back.

T: Rich dark fruits with an almost jam like quality. Dates, raisins, and figs mixed with mellow bourbon notes. Some brown sugar, caramel, and vanilla more prominent as it warms.

M: Medium to full body fairly light carbonation. Finish is a little sweet. Alcohol is extremely well hidden.

O: Excellent English style BA barleywine that has aged very well.

***2015 vintage***

L: pours very thick and dark red. It's black in the glass with no head.
A: black licorice/molasses, slight barrel, some typical for the style brown sugar sweetness.
T: just like the nose. Unfortunately not the flavors I seek. Huge molasses on beer his one. The molasses is so over powering it's hard to anything else.
F: high carbonation makes this tingly and I taste a good amount of alcohol. It is thick and syrupy but though.
O: very disappointed with this one.

Pours a rich and robust, deep brown with merely a nickel's width of fizzy khaki head rising to the top. This is a bottle from 2014, stored in a cellar. All things considered, it's a good look. Aroma is huge, with notes of bourbon, caramel, toffee, roasted malts, and barley. Each note hits with power, and is well executed. Flavor profile is bourbon, caramel, toffee, roasted malts with an earthy, barley finish. It's absolutely every bit of robust, and yet slips down smooth. The earthy finish is hearty, and may be a little polarizing. Mouth feel is smooth, and medium-thick. Overall, the presence in this beer is absolutely in the flavor profile. Aroma is great, with a hearty feel, but the flavor profile is deep and complex, and yet slippery smooth. The 14% ABV hides in well.

Served in a teku glass. Consumed and reviewed on 2/17/17. 2014 vintage bottle.

Dark, dark, dark brown, with a nice mocha head upon pouring...nice bourbon nose with vanilla, toffee and raisins...the taste is a wallop of burnt sugar, chocolate, molasses-y sweetness backed by a sticky icky mouthfeel that warms the body on the way down. Just a stellar beer, no wonder it's regarded as a classic. Well deserving of its spot in the BA top 250.
