Bottle:
This pour was a tad flat, though the other pour had a thin rim.

Nose is baked date bread with a bourbon kick.

Flavor is chocolate licorice sweet/spicy with a bit of fig, and this gives me more of a Quad impression. The bourbon that comes in gives me some alcohol heat, but a pleasant one. Fairly thick and silky feel that coats the palate.

A powerful and full bodied/flavored offering that might just lack a little in nuance. A very general thought would be that of a chocolate covered liqueur candy, though a tasty quad-like one.

Easily one of the best BA barleywines I've ever had. Excellent caramel flavors from the base beer with excellent chocolate, oak, and vanilla notes as well. Absolutely delicious

2015 editions from bottle, at refrigerator temperature into my Delirium tremens tulip.
A - pours a dark murky brown, with an off-white head that quickly recedes into thin ring leaving alcohol legs everywhere it's been...like a gangsta mother that doesn't want to be seen or heard but leaves a trail of dead bodies in her wake.
S - doesn't let the cold temperature bother her one bit. Raisins for days, with liquid caramel, torched brown sugar, dates and prunes by the boatloads. Traces of almonds and toasted wood, which I predict will only grow stronger as the beer warms up.
T- opens sweet and....oh crap... this is one motherful load of malty goodness. Ok.. gathering my senses now.. let's see.. raisins, dried stone fruits(dates, prunes...etc), brown sugar, molasses, almonds, toffee. Getting some vanilla and coconut as well, not quite as intense as the FW ones, but it's definitely there. Warming alcohol noticed as the liquid makes its way down.
M- very full, and welcoming so. A fantastic winter warmer.
O- in the pantheons of the great BBA Barley wines, this brew stands atop.

I've had 2012, 2013, and 2015 so this is a rating of those as a combo. I think this beer ages gracefully. This is one of the best BA Barleywines out there. The English malts are showcased in superb fashion here. The barrel comes through really likely. Not too boozy but a solid presence. Feels more like a stout being pretty syrupy but in a great way. I love this one.

2013 vintage, poured from the bottle into a taster. Sweet, boozy, nice caramel notes along with some dark fruit and apparent bourbon barrel. Wouldn't want more than a 2 oz pour.
