Poured a dark brown/black color where no light penetrated. Seemed fairly thick through sight. The head that was produced was thin and almost non-existent, but the color was tan. There was no lace present. The aroma was almost non-existent as well, I managed to smell black coffee, and light bitter chocolate, and maybe a hop. The flavors or should I say flavor was dominated by burnt black coffee with a hint of bitterness, that is pretty much it. Not to dimensional for a beer labeled as an Imperial Stout. Very little aftertaste and the body was on the light side as well. To be honest not a good representative of any stout. I had a black coffee porter later in the day and it had more dimensions. I was disappointed in this beer.

On tap at Barcade in December 2004. This was a keg which was aged from the winter 2002 batch (I think that may have been the only time it was brewed). Anyway, all the comments here about the hops being too strong no longer apply here as they have mellowed out considerably. Jet black in color. Slight hops in the flavor but pretty balanced out by the dark, roasted and chocolate malt flavor. Light in body, yes and thus very drinkable for an Imperial Stout. If there was ever a "session" imperial stout, this is it.
