Certainly a good place to stop in and grab a brew to go. Mostly a wine and spirit shop they do have a good selection of brews to choose from. More breadth than depth but they do carry an adequate selection of brews to chose from. They certainly sell the standard big mass-produced beers as well as the more popular craft-beers like Sam Adams and Great Lakes. They even sell a few Russian beers as well as a few European brands but mostly mass-produced name brands. Certainly a place worth stopping by and checking out.

Stopped by while in town and glad I did, mostly a liquor store but does have a craft selection. The staff is great and will help in any way. They do have beers available that I cant find in WV so definitely worth the stop.

Their beer selection is smaller than Continental, but sometimes has some nice stuff. If you're lucky, you'll see a couple of FFF beers, Country Boy, as well as most breweries in KY distribution. Had about 5 taps for growlers, nothing impressive when I was there. Hell of a bourbon selection as well. Staff was nice, would go to again.

Decent selection for the area - arguably the best in Ashland. Staff is usually friendly, and will ask if you need help, but they're not overly-zealous on small talk. They have a decent selection on homebrewing supplies, as well as a handful of beers on tap in the back. It's on my way home from work, so I stop in pretty often.

Far and away the best beer-wine-spirits store in Ashland. Really on a par with just about anyplace in Lexington. Very good craft beer and bourbon selection. I was blown away by the scotch they had - several brands I've never come across in the Liquor Barns in Lexington. Whenever I'm in Ashland I will make it a point to stop in.

Atmosphere - outside looked to be under construction. Looked as though a drive through were being put in. But it's a nice little brick building that looks like it belongs in Ashland. Very Ashland like style which I love. Inside is gorgeous! Loads of spirits inside, craft brews, as well as kentucky's finest whiskey brands. Very warm and feels kind of like a huge man cave inside.
Quality - the quality of this place to me is tip top. We do have a small area and population here in the Tri-State, so that may not be saying much, but for me it's the best place within 100 miles, so it's quality is fine and dandy.
Service - first class. A fellow met me, my fiancé, and 2 little boys at the door. Helped us in from the cold weather and pointed me straight to the craft beer. Asked if I minded him standing beside me while I searched, and gladly brought my lady a cart to put the car seat in. Also offered to take each item I had in mind buying to the front for when it was time to purchase. Also, if something wasn't priced he walked it to the front and had a price within a minute with no eye rolling or less interested attitude. I own a pizzeria(s) so I know what I'm talking about here. Attitude is so important with customers as good attitude makes you money and bad attitude makes your competition money.
Selection - for me they had stuff we don't get in WV. They have all the stuff we do have plus brews from the top brewers I've always wanted to be able to go down the road and buy. The selection was for me world class with the brewers they offered. Not to mention they told me if they didn't have a brewery I wanted or brews from a brewer they already had that they would try to track down anything I wanted and have it there for me on spot. This is important for the fact that literally I don't have to go anywhere else. big selection of home brewing products as well.
Food - dont know If they had food lol. I was there for beer
Value - reasonable based on what I bought
Overall - this place finally made some brew dreams come true and hopefully allow more to come. The only thing I'd like to see them have is the option to buy singles. Of course they had bombers and imports in singles, but I'd like to see the craft brews available not only in 4 or 6 packs, but as singles. That'd make this place A++ instead of A+ but for now it's my go to honey hole.

A: In terms of atmosphere, this place is okay, but leaves a bit to be desired. From the street, it looks kind of dumpy. The two times I've been in, the place has been a bit dusty and very dimly lit. That being said, the store is well organized with a layout that encourages browsing.

Q: The quality of the selections is generally pretty high, especially considering the area. I've been able to find some nice stuff here and have never gotten bad bottles and the like from this store.

S: The service is hard to comment on, as no one has ever approached me while I've been in there. The employees seem to hide from potential customers and finding someone to answer questions can be a bit daunting. I have to knock off some points in this regard.

S: As mentioned earlier, the selection is pretty good, especially for the area. Eastern Kentucky is a beer desert, but I can always find the likes of Great Lakes, Three Floyds, and Dogfish Head here, as well as some thoughtfully chosen German and Belgian imports. Sadly, I've never checked out their homebrew supplies, so I can't comment on them.

V: The prices are pretty reasonable. I've never had any complaints about them. For the area, this store is above-average, but I would rather wait to hit places like The Beer Trappe and Liquor Barn in Lexington, Party Source in NKY, or Sergio's and The Louisville Beer Store in Louisville. Overall, this store is good in a pinch. If you absolutely must pass through Ashland, stop in and browse for awhile.

I drive about an hour to get to this store, being from WV and looking for beers not found in my state it is the closest. I have had good luck in finding some good beers to try, my most recent trip I found 2 22oz Sierra Nevada Hoptimum, and a 6 pack of Bell's Kalamazoo stout. This is not a store with a great selection by any means, but it is one of the best in the area and easy to find on Winchester ave in downtown Ashland. This is a monthly trek for me to this store and Leo's in Southpoint, OH.

I drove about 60 miles round trip to visit ABC. I don't have a lot of choices as far as beer shops with good craft beer close to home so it was definitely worth it.

The store is pretty easy to access and there is plenty of parking. They do have a drive through which is nice if you're in a hurry. I, however, was not in a hurry so I parked out back and strolled in to check it out.

At first I was overwhelmed by the size of the place and the amount of liquor that you see when you walk in. Luckily they have hanging signs distinguish between the types of beverage below them.

There is a HUGE selection of liquor in this store. Too bad that's not what was on my mind. I looked around at the signs and....there it is. BEER. I made my way to the back of the store where I found several shelves of craft beer in four packs, six packs, pints and 22 oz. bottles. Nice! There is also a decently sized cooler with plenty of cold domestics and micro/macro brewed beer alike.

Around the corner I found a home brew section. Fermenting and bottling buckets. 12 and 16 oz. glass bottles, bottle caps, crimpers, auto siphons, cleaning solution, etc.. Plenty of hardware. They also have a nice selection of ingredient kits and individual ingredients. Plenty of hops, grains and malts. I'm impressed.

I was asked three times by different people if I needed help. I know I probably looked overwhelmed at times and probably a bit confused while trying to decide what craft beer to take home. (I ended up with six Blackened Voodoos and a 22 of PoppaSkull BTW. Oh yeah, a bottle of white zin for the wife.)

The prices were about average on the beer. They seemed more than reasonable for the home brew supplies. I even tried to call and cancel my order for a full home brew setup that had been placed a couple days prior so that I could just pick everything up there and start a batch right away. Too bad it had already been shipped.

Overall I had a good experience. The staff was nice and helpful and the selection was great. I will be buying ALL of my home brew ingredients and probably all of my craft beer from ABC from here on out.

Stopped by this place with Trep before hitting up Leo's beer store.

Selection was okay. Some Stone, Brooklyn, O'Fallon (Missouri) and lots of beers I wouldn't ever be too far from no matter where I went (i.e. Sierra Nevada, Heineken, Sam Adams, etc...). There were a couple six packs from breweries I hadn't heard of, but had flashy carton art and, upon the advice from trep, sucked in the beer department. No singles, but homebrew supplies were around the corner. Hop selection was definately lacking.

I will say this, though: they have a shit-ton of liquor. But this is a beer site...

The cashier was definately friendly and seemed willing to help and/or answer any questions we had. Value was decent: the beer wasn't overly expensive nor overly cheap.

If in the area, skip this place and go to Leo's in Southpoint.

ABC is located near downtown Ashland on Winchester Ave a short distance from the bridge. Parking is plentiful in side and rear lots or on the street.

The store is fairly large inside and features wine and liquor as well as beer. The majority of beer is located in coolers in the middle of the store and near the register. They do a good job segregating the 2 sections of beer between macros and craft beer.

As for said craft beer, there is a pretty good selection of some of the bigger name craft brewers like Stone, Rogue and Sierra Nevada plus some regional brewers like GLBC, Bluegrass, Berghoff and Bell's. There is a smattering of imports as well. Just a few singles are available.

The service here is friendly and helpful. I got the impression that craft beer isn't their bread and butter by any stretch but the proprieters were every bit as attentive to me and my small beer purchase as to the larger number of people loading up on other potables.

Overall this is a handy store to have around the Southern OH/Northern KY area and I would definitely hit it up next time I am in the area.

First of all, thanks to mousley and kristen613 for reviewing this place. I visited ABC way back in 1996, loved it, then forgot where it was. Their posts helped me rediscover it.

This place is serious about beverages. Beer, wine, and liquor in vast quantities. Chilling service available. Drive through option. Nice.

The craft beers are not only kept in a seperate cooler from BMC, but they're in a different part of the store. The BETTER part of the store, far from the windows and the beer-slaying UV rays of the sun. Great Lakes, Bells, Anchor, Sam Adams, Stone, Frederick, Goose Island, Seirra Nevada, and lots more. Imports include Duvel, Chimay, Bellhaven, etc.

It's fairly expensive, but hell, quality costs sometimes. Worth a trip. Better yet, go here and also hit Leo's Carry Out, just across the river in So. Point, OH.

Besides Leo's in South Point, Ohio, this is my only closely available source for some beers of the finer variety. Pretty decent selection of Imports and Micro's: Bell's, Stone, Thirsty Dog, Great Lakes, Goose Island, Fuller's, Unibroue, Sierra Nevada and a plethora of mid-range imports like Peroni, Pilsner Urquell and the like. I was surprised to see some Fuller's Vintage Ale and Duvel.

The guy that works the counter is pretty knowledgable. However, the high prices keep me from coming here more often. Look's like i'll be sticking with my usual Leo's just across the river in Ohio.
