I have no idea what inspired me, but I am suddenly really delving into my Rogue backlog here at Chez Woody! I have always loved their logos, their air brushed bombers, et al & now that they have begun CANning, more than ever. Now it is time to eradicate the pesky bombers that have just been hanging around as I transition almost totally into CANs.

From the Bottle: "It was 1988. We were young. Some called us foolish. We Dared. We Risked. We Dreamed. Revolution! 25 years later, we're still fighting. Join us. Dare. Risk. Dream."; "Dedicated to 25 Years"; "One score and five years ago, we brought forth on this continent a Revolution. Today we - the rebels, misfits, farmers, fishermen, rabble rousers, and risk takers - declare that the Revolution is winning! With this ale we celebrate 25 years of more mistakes than successes, more experience than wealth, and more chutzpah than sparkle."; "We also celebrate you, Rogue Nation citizens and friends, who have been with us along the long, long way. You've been with us from a basement in Ashland and a garage in Newport, to farms in Independence and Tygh Valley, and breweries, distilleries, and meeting halls in Portland, Eugene, San Francisco, Issaquah, Eugene, and Astoria. We have fought the good fight with our fists raised in defiance. To you we raise a glass and hope you'll stay with us for 25 more …"; "7 Ingredients: Rogue Farms Dare (tm), Risk (tm) & Maier Malts; Willamette & Rogue Farms Rebel Hops; Free Range Coastal Water & Pacman Yeast."; "No Chemicals, Additives Or Preservatives"; "Oregon Brewed*Established 1988*Oxygen Fixing Caps"; "13° Plato[,] 29.2 IBU[,] 82.6 AA[,] 11.2° L"; "100% Pure Rogue"; "[Beef] [Cheesecake]".

I always have a modicum of trepidation with these older bottles as in how the combination of my storage & its "oxygen fixing cap" have held up over time. This one hissed during my Pop!ping of the cap, greatly heartening me. I started an absolutely slow, gentle pour since the interior of the bottle was obscured & there was no telling as to lees/flocculate. I was happy to see it foam up to form two-plus fingers of dense, foamy, rocky, tawny head with decent retention. Color was Deep-Amber/Light Copper to Copper (SRM = > 13, < 17) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was very malty, very bready, close to a liquefied brown bread. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium. Taste had a very honey-like sweetness along with a pronounced breadiness. Freshly-baked bread drizzled with honey! I used to love to bake when I was in high school & breads, pies & pastries were my forte. I wanted to become a pastry chef or a baker of some stripe, but circumstances dictated otherwise. I still love the smell of baking anything since it is such a patient way of cooking. This really took me back. Finish was bone-dry with the Pacman yeast clearly having done its magic over the course of time. This has been yet another interesting foray into some ancient Rogue beers. I am anxious to continue.

Found a bottle on sale, so likely well past prime...

Poured into a narrow pint glass: color is amber, light tan head, fine bubbles.

Smell is very pleasant, bready, biscuity, a little yeasty.

Taste is aged, but bready, neutral, a little yeasty.

Mouthfeel is crisp, carbonated, a little drying.

overall a decent brew, but not out of the ordinary flavors or balance.

Mostly clear darker copper, not sure if this would still be considered a Blonde. A head a light lemon shade of cream, fluffy and fine, of decent retention. Smells of caramel, resin, biscuits, esters. Tastes (and looks) like an English Pale to me. Caramel, light almost apple-like tartness, toasty or biscuity notes, and tea, peppercorn, leaf matter, and rind in the finish. Medium-bodied, fine bubbles, sloshy, velvety, moderately crisp.

Bottle to pint glass for super bowl 50. Gold, slightly hazy. Nice white head. Aroma is light yeast, light hops, malt, mold, honey. Taste is veggie, honey, light breadyness.

Unimpressive to start, But I grew into it a bit. Ok.

L: Poured from the distinct Silver bomber into a pint glass, pours a dark gold with a nice white head. a slight amount of lace around the glass

S: A bit of caramel malt and citrus hop, nothing too crazy

T: Semi-sweet malt on the nose, paired with a bit bitter malt, a slight citrus zing as well

F: Rather light, and flat to be frank

O: A mediocre pale ale for an anniversary beer, its stayed intact fairly well for a two-year old beer.

This beer makes me upset. First of all, it has a way higher alcohol content than this website says. I believe it is around 9% in fact, I do not have the bottle anymore so I am unsure. Either way this beer cost me like 25 dollars for only like a 16 oz (estimated) bottle. This is not that good. In fact is worse than most beers I have had in this category. Which by the way, I am not quite sure if this is a blonde. It has a much darker color than a blonde would. It taste like strong ale as apposed to blonde. This beer is not worth the money. It kind of sucks. If you buy it, buy it for the bottle. The beer itself looks nice but that doesn't matter at all when it tastes like a 7 dollar bar beer not a 25 dollar distributor beer. If you got a pint of this at a bar, it would run you like 35 dollars. That may be a bit of an exaggeration but not a large one. If you order this, you are wrong, nuff said.
