Thoroughly enjoyed from the 22 oz bomber in a snifter glass. This very nice ale pours a lightly cloudy amber with a nice off white head of foam that dissipates to a very thick ring and thin pool with sudsy lacing. Nose of sweet malts of caramel and light citrus fruits. Flavors are sweet malts up front, lightly bracing hops to the sides and back, with a moderately bitter grassy hops aftertaste. This is one of the best Rogue brews I have had in quite awhile. Moderately high carbonation, smooth mouth feel, and a wet finish borderline creamy in feel. VERY NICE. As always a beautiful bottle which is a Rogue trademark. Excellent!
Cheers

Quite attractive amber color with a fine-grained foam in the Maredsous goblet. A fund-raiser for the Waikiki Aquarium, but I bought this 22 ouncer at Serv-All in San Diego.
Distinct honey-like flavor that seems to go well with the Maibock style. Rather sweet but balanced by a modest dose of hops. Label says they are Perle and Sterling hops, plus the usual Rogue-grown malts and Munich.
Warm and grainy with a fruity richness. There is some little bitterness at the finish. Pleasant aroma of melon and malt. Slightly tangy. This is actually an improvement on the usual flabby Maibock brews.

Rogue Monk Seal Ale
serving type: pint glass, 22oz bomber bottle from Tamura's, Honolulu (May 2014)
A: Take a lighter Belgian ale and add some straw, head is slightly tanned
S: Strong malt presence, small amount of caramel
T: Hop bitterness is up front, mellows into a slightly sweet pleasant aftertaste. Lots of complex malt, caramel, and just a hint of soy sauce.
M: Big bodied, smooth, almost creamy
O: A really great medium ale. Rich, drinkable, lots of malt and the right touch of hops. Well balanced and tasty.

Pours a half finger of head on a clear dark straw colored body.
The aroma is bright orange and tangerine with a little caramel.
The taste is a hardy malt caramel with a slightly sweet pine finish.
The texture is fizzy, a bit too much.
An enjoyable beer.
