My first braggot. So of course, I read some BA reviews and am startled by the really, really wide range of opinion.
So, I will be the voice of moderation and mediation (not a bad idea if all you did was read today's headlines.)
First and given this range, it would not surprise me to find that there are Quality Control issues in stabilizing this complex ale through the production and distribution processes. (But that analysis is best done by a brewing QC expert. So speak up.)
Second, most reviewers do agree on the beginning. This has an interesting Look, color is unique.
Smells would have a majority position around "the fruit and honey blend well to moderate the alcohol."
Taste may not ever get a majority position but I'd vote for " this is sweet, but not offensively so."
As for Feel, there may be no compromise bill. Either you like what all this complexity does to your mouth, or you hate it.
Overall, you gotta love experimenting to revive a very old style.
Guys, keep an open mind.

Draft at Alefort. Dark amber pour with purple tones. Light berry aroma, pale malts come forth in taste, fruity, honey . Sweet with a little heat, mouthfeel.

Poured from a purple enameled bomber into a Zywiec Porter glass. Cool bottle/artwork.
L: Murky dull burgundy/maroon pour with a finger of foamy off-white head. Thin rim of lacing.
S: Sweet and fruity. Blackberry jam, raspberry, honey, and sweets.
T.F: Semi-sweet and fruity up front. Not cloying (thank god). Strong blackberry/raspberry notes... honey quite noticeable as well. A little tang from the berries... some medicinal hops for balance mixed with some yeast character. Medium to thick bodied... heat comes in late but not overly boozy. Sticky on the tongue and more berry at the finish.
O: For a blackberry mead... this delivers what it promises. Definite alcohol... some sweet fruit and honey but very drinkable. A nice sipper.... letting this one celler probably helped calm it down a bit. A great bomber to share.

At long last, the last of my Rogue bomber backlog & frankly, looking at some of the price tags on these, I am surprised that I pulled the trigger in the first place. These enameled bombers mean that I am unable to see what it happening inside, which never makes me happy. OTOH, many of them have mellowed nicely during their wait for me to get to them. Let's see how this one fares!
From the Bottle: "Grow the Revolution"; "Dedicated to Farmers and Fermenters"; "We made this Braggot with our own marionberries, hops, barley and honey."; "Situated just across from 40 acres of Rogue hops, 119 colonies of bees were carefully kept, fed, and smoked and the honey was uncapped, extracted, filtered and finally infused into a refreshing Marionberry Braggot."; "Brewed Using 17 Ingredients: Rogue Farms Honey & Wildflower Honey; Rogue Farms Dare (tm), Risk (tm), Dare (tm) R-1, Dare (tm) R-3, Risk (tm) R-1, Risk (tm) R-3, Risk (tm) R-7, Maier Munich & C120 Malts; Rogue Farms Flaked Rye; Rogue Farms Rebel Hops; Rogue Farms Marionberries & Marionberry Juice; Free Range Coastal Water & Pacman Yeast."; "Ale Brewed with Honey & Natural Flavor Added"; "No Chemicals, Additives or Preservatives"; "[Pairs With:] Campfires[,] Cheese"; "26° Plato*17 IBU*84 AA*32° L"; "Oregon Brewed[,] Established 1988[,] Oxygen Fixing Caps"; "100% Pure Rogue"; "Visit Us at the Farm 3590 Wydrich Rd. Independence, OR 97351 (503) 838-9813".
I Pop!ped off the cap & started a slow, gentle C-Line pour since I could not see what was going on inside of the bottle. I was trying to get it to form some head, any head, on its own but all that I got were wisps. 8=( An in-glass swirl raised a brief finger of fizzy, foamy, deep-tan/light-brown head with very limited retention, quickly returning to wisps. Color was Dark Brown to Very Dark Brown (SRM = > 27, < 34) with NE-quality clarity and garnet highlights. Nose was redolent with honey and an unrecognizable dark fruit, perhaps berries, maybe stone fruit. Mmm. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, not quite creamy, but on the approach. The taste was initially obviously of honey, but as it warmed, the berriness of the fruit really became evident. I would have guessed blueberries. Mmm. This was also bringing some heat, indicating that I may have made the right decision to allow it to mellow. 11.42% ABV was no playin' around! My ex-Old Lady is an apiarist & meaderist who turned me on to Braggot a while back. Braggot is the only mead style that qualifies for this site, but I was really digging this one & how it rekindled my thoughts of her. Finish was dry with a slight alcohol burn. Does it surprise you that something with fruit & honey as its base would not finish sweet? The sugars are simple enough that the yeast just has a field day. When that happens, dryness occurs & ABV shoots up! Phew. This was quite the drink.

Pours a dark plum that shows translucence around the edges. There is no head. Aroma is plum, raisins, cardonney, grapes, and honey in a complex whirlwind of notes. A touch of heat seeps through via the alcohol. Flavor profile is plum, raisins, grapes and a pleasant honey finish. It opens with fruity notes and closes with a fierce, notable honey quality. Toasty, earthy, caramely malts and light herbal hops add a little complexity. Heat meets the palate late in the flavor profile, but swells to a very notable, and unavoidable, level. Mouth feel is medium in thickness with a consistent, velvety texture that feels like static signal on the tongue. Flat lined overall, but bumpy. Overall, a very intriguing beer with notes of the underlying beer coming through, before mead comes through and completely takes over.

Let it sit. The glögg-like qualities of the braggot come out with a dried fruit raisin-like berry flavor, unparalleled by nearly all in this genre.

As I once made a braggot myself, I can appreciate Rogue trying this old style that is unfortunately misrepresented in our modern times.
One must just ask, "dost thou enjoy ale?"...who repli'd "indeed, I enjoy fine ales". Then, dost thou enjoy mead?...as well "indeed I enjoy fine mead". So beg thee then, would'st thou not enjoy a concoction of them?
Oh by the way, I'm not sure why there are a few saying that it's purple in the glass, it's not, more like deep amber. There are no blue tinges here, if there was, I'd be concerned.

bottle to goblet.
Appearance: muddy water, with a purple hue. Ugly. Aroma : grape, merlot? Taste: Pomegranate, blueberry, acetone. Not sure what marionberries are (i expected a crackhead mayor) , but it seems like they are a sour, earthy, dark fruit. Feel: flat, dry. I love Rogue, and this bottle is very colorful, but this beer is not sitting well with me. Interesting flavors, but it doesn’t work for me.
