Wow! poured a 22 oz in a pint glass. Deep honey brown color with little head. You can really smell and taste the hazelnut. Smooth, malty, not too sweet. I am partial to browns and this is one of the best.

Clear tan-brown body, coarse light tan head that fades to a mere ring. Smell is instantly appealing with semisweet toasted nuts and semisweet caramel, key prefix being semi; appealing to the shallow but not cloying to the sensitive. There is also a touch of vanilla and wood, as if it were oak-aged. The flavor gets approved for a loan on property in Yumtown; the focus is on sweet hazelnut/toasted nut extract, vanilla, caramel, and a balancing presence of wood, smoke, and burnt bitterness like a creme brulee; what is burnt, I do not know, as I am only a mortal human being. All I know is that the very sweet Nutella-verging sweetness has met its clandestine equal. Body is full and somewhat sticky, with moderate carbonation.
Welcome to Yumtown, USA. Much good. Just when I feared my sweetooth had been pandered to by cheap extracts, a rich, honest, complex, planned malt backbone and balancing bitterness/spice entered the framework and made it a balanced, mature brew. Guys, I'm not fucking around anymore, this is seriously good.

A 22 oz bottle poured into a Hefe glass, minimal head with a honey brown color. Smell was as advertised, nutty and malty. I really liked the taste, a nice subtle sweetness that pairs very well with the hazelnut. The hops are minimal for balance so as not to interfere with the hazelnut. Tremendous beer overall, well done to Rogue Ales.

22-oz bottle into Samuel Smith "Tulip" pint glass

A - 3 fingers medium tan over a slightly cloudy copper body, high visible carbonation, patchy lace

S - hazelnut, caramel, toffee, hint of butter, vanilla; very pleasant

T - very nutty; hazelnut, light caramel/toffee sweetness, touch of vanilla, grassy hops; nutty aftertaste

M - smooth & creamy medium body, high carbonation

O - This is good for a sweet brown ale. The aroma towers above everything else.

My taste buds came alive. Want is that delicious flavor? It’s hazelnut as in my favorite liqueur- Frangelico hazelnut liqueur. I was served this in a flight for which I didn’t pay attention to the names of each beer. Of course if I’d read the label I’d have seen "hazelnut" in the description. This is a beer I’ll go back to at every opportunity.

650ml bottle poured into Sam Adams pint glass.

Pours a deep, clear ruby amber with three fingers of fluffy tan head that leaves splashes of creamy lace as it recedes.

Smells of roasted hazelnuts, rising brown bread dough, faint dried cherries and plain leafy hops.

Tastes of sweet brown biscuits with hazelnut spread, brown sugar, dried cherry dusted with cocoa powder and more mild hops.

Feels smooth and frothy. Medium bodied with creamy carbonation. Finishes off-sweet.

Verdict: Vigorously recommended. Perfect for a cold, rainy night and a movie.

Not sure what everyone else is getting from this to rate it so high. I find it has a good color and a decent smell, a little sweet with a strange nutty/malty/chocolate. The taste a little strange, nutty, slight sweet and a little bitter. A very thin, watery feel. Overall drinkable but not a good beer. But who knows it could of been a old bottle, since rogue refuses to date its beer. Wouldn't get again.

This is one delicious beer. It is definitely in my top 5 beer list. Please send me any bottles you do not want to drink. It does not hurt that the picture of the dude on the label looks a lot like me.

Enjoyed for the second time last night and will be looking for more soon. Other reviews pretty unanimously nailed the color/taste notes/head, so I'll just add my two thumbs up support of this brew.

Look: Nice mahogany color with a small light tan head.

Smell: Lots of hazelnut with alcohol and some grains.

Taste: Kind of an acidic nutty taste in the mouth, leaves a warm hazelnut aftertaste.

Feel: Normal carbonation, slightly dry, sticky aftertaste.

Overall: A great beer to sip and enjoy.

Pours (obviously) hazelnut brown with a red eclipse into a tulip glass from a 330ml bottle. Off white head falls from a finger high down to froth after a short while. Minimal lacing, low retention.

The nose is full of hazelnuts, cocoa, and sweet malts. If anyone is familiar with Nutella then this is what to expect when in the vicinity of this ale, you're bowled over with nuts.

The flavour follows on with huge nutty flavours, cocoa beans, and biscuit malts. It's like the aftertaste of eating Ferrero Rocher, the nutty flavour is positively massive with large follows on of praline, cooking chocolate, and some coffee beans; there's a sweetness which lies low all the way through, balancing all of the earth flavours.

In the mouth it feels smooth, medium bodied and lowly carbonated. It has a slight mouth-coating quality on the sip which molds into a wet feel on the swallow, making it very drinkable and light for a brown ale.

I adore this ale; one of the best brown ales I've ever had the pleasure to try. Would highly recommend for those who like malty nutty flavours.

Medium-dark brown, almost copper in the light, clear with a chunky haze. Moderately retaining, uniform, tan, foamy and creamy head. Definitely smell the hazelnut. Light tart and toasty notes. And that’s about it. It is to the point that it does not smell very much like beer at all. Strong and, despite name, unexpected, yet not unpleasant. taste is far out there, as with the smell I was expecting and hoping the hazelnut would be more subdued. The nature of hazelnut almost makes it seem more boozy than it is. Still, you get caramel, faintly tart, mildly nutty, light tobacco, earthy notes shining through. Sweet, fairly tart, nutty, not very roasty or bitter. Medium-bodied, somewhat slick and sticky, with fine, gentle, nearly flat carbonation. Certainly not a nasty beer, but a stylistic nonconformist.

I am not a hazelnut fan but this beer really was quite good. Great balance of a smooth nutty brown with plenty of hazelnut character. Mouthfeel and flavor really impressed me.

12 ounce bottle into signature pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours lightly hazy/cloudy deep ruby red/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of big caramel, hazelnut, brown sugar, brown bread, toffee, toasted biscuit, light chocolate, herbal, floral, and nutty/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great complexity and balanced of dark/bready malt, hazelnut, and light earthy hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, hazelnut, brown sugar, brown bread, toffee, toasted biscuit, light chocolate, herbal, floral, and nutty/toasted earthiness. Slight herbal hop and roast bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, hazelnut, brown sugar, brown bread, toffee, toasted biscuit, light chocolate, and nutty/toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, hazelnut, and light earthy hop flavors; with a good bitter/sweet balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/bready, and lightly silky/chalky balanced mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent brown ale! All around great complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, hazelnut, and light earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

This brew pours a brown color but looks ruby red when held up to the light. There is a small head which does not last long but some of it sticks around as a collar until the end. There is moderate carbonation and no lacing.

The smell is heavy on nutty notes, spicy malt, sweet malt and hazelnut. There is possibly some chocolate in there as well.

The taste follows the nose with hazelnut dominating, then a nutty, earthy taste. A little chocolate followed by more sweet malts then a creamy oatmeal like, sweet finish. There are some very light spicy hops on the backend. This is a good Brown Ale enhanced by the strong presence of hazelnut.

Had the Morimoto bomber while in Hawaii. Excellent hazelnut taste to this beer. Wish I was able to find a six pack in Illinois. Will be searching when I go out west this month. Great Brown Ale w/ a refreshing taste.

Dark brown color with minimal head/lacing. Faint malty scent. Delicious creamy and nutty flavors with hints of vanilla. Tastes like an Irish Carbomb. Fine carbonation with smooth finish. Excellent.

WOW. Lots of things going on here. Hazelnut, cherry, semi-sweet chocolate. Smooth....really great mouthfeel. I lean more to the full hops IPA'S but this is a beautiful surprise.

Dark caramel brown, with off white head. Smell is not overpowering, light caramel, hint of hazelnut creamer. I was hesitant to try this self - described hazelnut brown ale. Everyone's palate is different, but I get a weird flavor from many browns... overly sweet and nutty that can lean towards a liquid soap. This had none of the negative, and the taste was great. Reminded me of some bocks I've had more than most brown ales. Creamy caramel malty base with great chocolate flavor, and just a hint of nut. Feel is nice and full.

Poured bottle into snifter. Head takes a moment to form, then fades, leaving webbing like the peel of an orange.

Smells like whole wheat bread, nuts. A little cherry and molasses.

Taste: Nuts, sweet liquid bread (hey, its beer), light roasted malts. Hops are minor.

Mouth is smooth. You're left with a "I ate a handful of nuts" taste."

A little sweet, but bready. One of the best smelling beers I've encountered. Really good.

Appearance: Quite a dark mahogany brown with an off white head only and inch thick.

Aroma: Some chocolate malts with notes of chocolate licorice. Light molasses, roasted hops, nuttiness, caramel notes round it out.

Taste: Well this one quite a wave of chocolate licorice in the front with a smooth mouthfeel. Hops are roasted along with a malts which give it a nice malty backbone. Molasses makes it's presence know with some toffee notes in the back.

Notes: A very solid American Brown ale top to bottom. Cheers.

Cold 12oz bottle poured in a glass.

A: Pours a red-brown with a thin head, white in color. Somewhere between a coke and iced tea in color when held to the light.

S: I get a cherry, vanilla, caramel smell to it.

T: Slight bitterness to start with carbonation that finishes smooth and on the sweet side but not so sweet that it is a dessert beer. Really fun twist on a brown ale (think adding creamer to a black coffee.)

M: Smooth brown ale with flavor. I'd say medium body.

O: Fantastic brown! Traditional brown, smooth (overall) and malty that gives it a great flavor and slight sweetness. One of my favorites and can be enjoyed year 'round!
