I poured this from the bottle into a mug.

It looked to be a dark amber...the mug is tinted.

It smelled great. You could definitely pick out the hazelnut and it had a caramel fragrance.

The hazelnut flavor is definitely prevalent. The beer has a sweet caramel flavor with moderate carbonation for a darker beer.

Mouthfeel....eh, whatever.

Being a hazelnut lover, I tried to ignore all the reviews slamming this beer's "artificial" hazelnut flavoring. I really wanted to enjoy it. I did anyway. I thought it was a good beer....a nice dark amber with the slight feel of a porter and a hefty hint of hazelnut. Artificial or not....I will drink it again.

This beer has a really big rateing ... That is not good, the reviews have to be coming from people that loved Boones Farms back in the seventies, or some of these cherry flavored Vodkas. There are great beers on here that have low rateings and novalty brews with high scores.

I enjoy bold experiments with craft brewing, ...but extracts make me want to gag. I do not believe the beer was brewed with any actual "Hazlenuts" at all!

So.... it was brewed in a way that put the hazlenut taste in the back of the throat, and it did have a bold malted honey taste, but I found myself just trying to get through it and find something else to wash that taste out of my mouth.

Rogue is one of my favorite breweries, this selection was not for me.

Poured into a tumbler glass

A- Pours a clear reddish-brown, with a thick head and good lacing

S- Smells like hazelnut and caramel.

T- Has flavors of hazelnut and caramel, with maybe some chocolate or even coffee notes on the finish.

M- Goes down easy, but not a light-weight either.

O- A good beer to have on hand, especially if you love the taste of hazelnut. A solid brew.

Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a pint glass. Purchased in Wakefield RI.

A- pours a deep amber clear body with a 2" white head that reduces slowly and leaves little lacing

S - huge nutty , butterscotch, caramel, toffee notes

T- Hazelnuts and vanilla with a butterscotch, smokey toffee aftertaste. Just enough hazelnut without having that flavor take over the beer

M - medium body and carbonation

A very solidly crafted hazelnut brew. Pick one up of you like nutty beers, if not you probably won't enjoy this one

Rogue Hazelnut Brown Nectar. My New Year's Beer Selection. Reviewed from notes.

(Appearance) Thick light tannish creamy head with average retention. Medium brown body color. Decent appearance. 3.5

(Smell) Musty hazelnut toffee aroma smells a little like wet dog. Hazelnut is a little artificial and dominates the nose. It doesn't allow for any balance and makes for a particuoarly unpleasant aroma. 2.5

(Taste) Cloying nutty flavor up front with a bitter roasted malt finish. A bit heavy on the hazelnut throughout and not in a pleasing way either. Not for everybody, even if you like hazelnut, this may not be an enjoyable beer. 2.75

(Mouthfeel) Creamy flavor with faint crispness throughout. Medium body for the style, medium body overall. Alcohol presence is light. 3.5

(Overall) I didn't fine the hazelnut to be a pleasing additive in this beer, and it really dominated the flavor and aroma throughout. Probably worth a try one but it is likely to offend more than the few it may please. 2.75

Drank on-tap at The Gaff, Waltham, MA
Served in a stemmed glass

The beer poured a near crystal clear mahogany color and was topped by a frothy, bubbly, one-plus finger tall crop of khaki colored foam. The head slowly dropped, leaving behind spotty drips of lacing.

The aroma was mild initially. Dry and powdery. Later, toasted malts came out. As the beer warmed, the nose really opened open. Sweet hazelnut notes were apparent. Lots of freshly brewed coffee as well. The coffee smell reminded me a lot of Dunkin' Donuts.

The same notes that appeared later in the aroma also dominated the flavor profile. Lots of sweet caramel and toasted malts on the front end. Hazelnut notes then took over. Good amount of sweetned and creamed coffee as well. Touch of cocoa. A hint of dry roastiness appeared on the finish.

The mouthfeel was medium bodied. Smooth, slick and creamy with a fine and moderate carbonation.

Rogue's Hazelnut Nectar Ale is immensely flavorful and highly drinkable. I forgot how good this beer is.
