Picked this up on discount, so likely pushing 2 years old on the shelf...

Poured from the pink bottle into a chalice: color is amber, pretty clear, head is very light tan with fine to small bubbles, some lacing on the glass sides with a lingering top.

Aroma is mango fruit, then more blended sweetness and mixed maltiness, hint of vanilla.

Taste is similar maybe with more pronounced sweetness, maltiness, and vanilla: mango/tropical fruits present first, followed by sweetness, with caramel and light honey, toast, and vanilla.

Mouthfeel is fine upfront with softer sweeter feel, but as it clears the tongue a dryer harshness presents.

Overall an interesting beer, maybe a bit better than anticipated due to its age and type of beer.

Appearance - Pours orange amber in color and mostly clear in color with fine sediment floating about. One finger width, off-white head. Fair retention, resulting in a thin, broken layer of suds and a fair ring around the edge of the glass. No lacing.

Smell - Prominent mango aroma with lesser notes of orange and strawberry. Very fruity, though comes off a bit artificial. Mild breadiness sits beneath.

Taste - Follows the nose a bit. Moderate mango flavor that stays rather leveled. Hints of citrus and berry mid-taste. Faint grassy bitterness. Finishes with lingering fruity sweetness and a touch of bready malt character.

Mouthfeel - Medium in body with moderate carbonation. Slick, slightly creamy texture with a crisp, semi-dry finish.

Overall - A little over a year of age on this thing, and I think it's drinking well. While fruity and sweet, it's very drinkable and never reaches any kind of cloying sweetness. That said, it's a steep price to pay for such a beer; mango bomb NE-style IPAs can be had in 4-packs for nearly the same asking price.

Poured from a 25 oz bottle into a tulip glass. The appearance is an orange color with a small white head. The aroma is all mango. The taste is mango and a hint of malt. An average beer.

Again, as with all of these voodoo doughnut beers, they got what they were aiming for but it just is not something I would buy again. It's a sweet artificial orange flavor and color. It wasn't bad. It wasn't good either.

Surprisingly, this beer wasn't as gross as I thought it would have been. I've had several of these Rogue / Voodoo Doughnut beers and they're always kind of hit or miss. Though you pretty much only drink them for the novelty aspect.

As for this particular beer, the mango is definitely prominent and in a good way. The ale is hoppy and bitter, and goes well with the sweetness of the mango. Overall, a surprisingly decent and tasty beer.

The mango flavors are highlighted and the overall characteristics were very enjoyable. This is a fine example of a fruit base beer that I would enjoy again.

750mL bottle into a tulip
no bottling dates

A: Pours crystal clear, golden amber, 2 fingers width of light tan head which dissipates down fairly slowly and leaves only a few small patches of lacing. 4

S: Huge mango, some other fruity citrus notes, quite sweet. Not much else going on, but I actually dig it quite a bit because I am a fan of mangos. 4

T: Mango and sweetness is much less prominent in the aroma than the taste, although it is present. The taste reminds me of a lowly hopped pale ale or a blond. It actually is fairly reminiscent of Magic Hat #9 (which I know people hate on all the time but I enjoy a fair bit). 3.75

M/D: Lighter side of medium body with an appropriate, moderate, carbonation. Drinkability is pretty good. 3.75

O: I had very low expectations, but I actually enjoyed this beer quite a bit. 3.75
