ummm.....YUM. Delicious. Strong nutella flavor. Aromas exactly like a vanilla wafer. A little aftertaste of wafer too. Loving this. On tap (nitro) in PDX.

Rogue does some weird stuff (the beard beer), Rogue does some funny stuff (the yellow snow beer), Rogue does some world-class stuff (Double Chocolate Stout).

This is pretty close to world-class. It's like someone stuck a hazelnut Snickers bar in a milk stout. Waves of chocolate, some peanut butter, and creamy goodness from the milk stout side of things. A pleasure to drink.

Appearance: pours a dark brown almost black color with a 1/2" head that falls to some surface bubbles along the glass.

Smell: hazelnut, chocolate, and a malt sweetness creates a nice aroma.

Taste: roasted malts, dark chocolate, hazelnuts, dark fruit, and a moderate bitterness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with a bit of dryness arriving late.

Overall: a very enjoyable chocolate hazelnut beer - good enough for dessert on its own. One of the better Rogue beers I have had.

Look - deep deep dark brown with a mocha head that dissipates to a nice layer of bubbles, and there's some spotty lacing and pretty legs.
Smell - chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla, hazelnut.
Taste - similar to the nose but nutty notes and roasted malts are strongest along with a smooth background of sweet chocolate.
Feel - high carbonation, medium body, slightly chewy (especially for the ABV), and very smooth.

On tap at Taco Mac in Atlanta while watching Clemson win the NCAA National Football Championship.

This is a fine looking beer, with a clear dark brown body topped by a durable tan head that has very good retention and leaves a full but thin coat of lacing on the glass.
It smells great, with roasted hazelnuts, dark bread and dark chocolate.
The flavor is more chocolate stout and less Rogue Hazelnut Brown.
Mildly bitter with more hazelnut presence after it warms a bit. Plenty of chocolate throughout. Creamy smooth, medium body with soft carbonation.

22oz bottle - a suitably crazy-ass name for a simple blend of their hazelnut brown ale and chocolate stout, amirite?

This beer pours a clear (perhaps), very dark cola-highlighted brown colour, with two fingers of puffy, rocky, and somewhat chunky beige head, which leaves some low-lying coral reef atoll lace around the glass as it gently recedes.

It smells of discount store chocolate wafers (my favourite!), a hazelnut-forward oily nuttiness, some heady doughy and bready caramel malt, benign cafe-au-lait, weak organic vanilla, and a touch of indeterminate leafy and weedy hop bitters. The taste is grainy and bready caramel malt, bittersweet cocoa powder, grocery store hazelnuts, creme brulee, very milked-up coffee, a sense of vanilla beans, and some rather plain earthy and leafy hops unrequited.

The carbonation is fairly meek in its barely cognizant frothiness, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, with a wee airy creaminess trying to get off of the ground from the get-go. It finishes well off-dry, the mixed cocoa and nutty components playing out just how one might expect, of course.

Overall, I argued at length with co-workers whether this was a new brew, or simply a mixing of existing best-sellers for this big-time Oregon brewing concern. I'm still not quite convinced - this really does taste like the two aforementioned offerings just plopped together - not exactly in a bad way, but not in a new and world-beating manner either. Yeah.

Appearance - Pours black with cola brown edging and a tan, finger width head sitting atop. Fair retention, then dissipates to a thin, broken layer of suds and a thin ring around the edge of the glass. Not much for lacing except a spot or two.

Smell - Fair aroma of chocolate with a lesser hazelnut. Faint roast.

Taste - Follows the nose. Chocolate notes upfront with a touch of hazelnut that soon follows. Finish flips the script, with a earthy hazelnut getting stronger as the chocolate character fades.

Mouthfeel - On the fuller side of medium with moderate carbonation. Smooth enough drinker with a slightly dry finish.

Overall - It's good, but IMO the end result is a beer that does disservice to both the Hazelnut Brown and the Chocolate Stout, as the blending takes away the strength of both beers, resulting in a brew that meets in the middle but falls a bit flat in punchy flavor.

Pours an effervescent chestnut hued mahogany with a pinky of mocha colored head. Slightly better than average head retention & lacing

S: Slight nuttyness, some chocolate

T: Nuttyness, a hint of chocolate & coffee up front, some dryness too. More dryness, a touch of cocoa & hazelnut as this warms, just enough sweetness to move this along. Finishes dry, a little toasty, slight smokeyness & just a little cocoa & coconut

MF: Medium body, fairly restrained carbonation

A good take on the style, but something seems a little forced/artificial with this

Poured into a nonic pint glass, the appearance was a dark brown close to black color with a finger’s worth of white to off white foamy head that quickly dissipated. Mild messy lace. The aroma had some rough roasted sweet nuts hitting thick milk chocolate tones, fudge-like and absorbent. Some cake/breadiness comes about as it continues to warm. The flavor blends decently bring the roast to the sweet and adding some slight vanilla. Super sweet chocolatey aftertaste and wet sweet finish. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a pretty decent sessionability about it. Fairly low carbonation. The sweetness lays down on my tongue almost in a sticky fashion. Overall, decent stout that almost drinks like a porter. Not sure if I’d come back to.

Deep opaque brown in color with a tall, fluffy beige head, Rogue's "candy bar in a bottle" is a little darker than expected yet an attractive pour. The nose is heavy on milk chocolate, against a background of hazelnut, walnut, dark rustic bread, and coffee creamer. The flavor of this blended creation, however, is less tooth-achingly sweet than the name and aroma might lead you to believe. Solidly medium-bodied, slightly roasty, with a bit of chew, this Stout has notes of darker chocolate, brown bread, and a pleasant bitterness that lingers. The nutty character isn't as prominent in the flavor though. Quite drinkable with a degree of nuance, this beer could be a fun one for a dessert pairing.
