Served on draft at the Rogue public house in Portland in their XS goblet, the Menage A Frog was a slightly hazy, burnt straw colored, with a pretty thin white head and not much lace.
The aroma is pretty moderate, not bad but nothing special, more fruity and sweet then the yeasty spiciness I like in other trippels.
Taste is also pretty sweet and citrus, but there was definitely something about it that was just a bit off. Not in a wild yeast funk kind of way, that would have been welcomed (and probably cut the sugar), but a distinct taste that I couldn't place, almost like a skunky macro lager. I actually noticed the same thing in their Imperial Pilsner, which was another disappointment. Not sure if is something in their lines that only comes through in their more subtle beers, or something with how they make their strong pales. Anyways, not my cup of tea, I don't drink micros to be reminded of skunked macro.
The mouthfeel was fine, medium body and effervescence, but not enough attenuation.
The drinkability on this was low for me. I am a big fan of Belgian Trippels, and as with most US versions of the style, the Menage A Frog just doesn't cut it.
