12/16/04- Given to me from my fiancee as part of a winter warmer 10 pack purchased at Cost Plus in San Mateo, CA.

Presentation- 12 oz bottle with no expiration date. Poured into my Steinlager pint glass.

Appearance- A black and rather thick pour. Large head and average lacing.

Smell- Dark chocolate, roasted malts and a bit of bitterness...hops?

Taste- Huh? This is my first porter where I have tasted so many hops. Much more bitter than I expected and very dry going down. Lots of dark chocolate flavors milling around.

Mouthfeel- Decent carbonation. Reminds me of a stout mouthfeel.

Drinkability- One of the better porters I have had. The hops make it different and therefore a plus in my book. Will try again sometime soon.

12 oz.

Pours opaque black with off-white lacing.

Smells of chocolate, hops and roasted barley.

Tastes like roasted barely and coffee with a bit of chocolate sweetness.

Feels on the fuller side of moderate with mild carbonation on the tongue and back of the throat.

Good tasty porter, dark and flavorful, and appropriately heavy. A great offering from Rogue.

A - Pours almost opaque with a dark red hue along the edges, two fingers of light mocha head with solid retention and some nice chunky lacing.

S - Some dark cocoa, bitter espresso, earthy leafy hops come through on the finish.

T - Quite tasty with dark cocoa coming through off the top, some nice espresso notes which don't come across bitter in the least, and some leafy hops on the finish. The dark cocoa really lingers on the palette and is scrumptious!

M - Medium bodied, a bit prickly going down, but finishes nicely with a touch of dryness.

O - A really tasty porter with some great chocolate notes. Easily sessionable and quality example of the style. I could take down a 6-er of this any day. Delicious!

Not really much of a porter drinker, but this one has me reconsidering my priorities. Really good. Pours dark like it should and really doesn't smell much of anything either. For the taste, the balance is terrific. Mouthfeel is good too. Like I said, for an IPA drinker, this one is better than just ok. A win.
