Poured an almost black color with a tan head. Thick lacing developed on the glass. The aroma had coffee and roasted malt tones. The flavor was big on roasted malt and coffee, with a bitter chocolate tone lingering in the background. Some bitterness was detected with this porter.

Medium bodied, smooth with a slightly dry finish. The coffee and some burnt tones linger on the tongue. A decent porter that could have used a little boost on the chocolate front.

Stiff brown pour, 3/4" tan head. Aroma drops mocha coffee notes, some chocolate and brown malt.

Not overly hoppy or bitter, this one goes for more of the coffee roasted notes, smoothed out hence the mocha aspect I would surmise. This is one of those straightforward beers Rogue makes that shows they can make good to even great (dbl choc stout) stuff when they aren't trying to totally Dogfish Head up their stuff.

Poured from a bottle into a standard pint glass. Beer is brown (dark) to black, carbonation is low, head is almost nonexistent, and there is no lacing.

The aroma is mostly roast, roasted malt and coffee. Second smell there may be some chocolate in there.

Beer tastes about as it smells. High roast, some chocolate bitterness and a little sweetness, coffee. Surprisingly, not a big aftertaste. Medium body, ok drinkability, good mouthfeel.

It looks good in the glass, nice head, darck and rich color.

Very pleasant smell, inviting to any hophead.

What can I say, it's a solid hoppy beer with coffee and a bit of chocolate, but its nothing terribly special. The taste wasn't as complex as I would have hoped. It was well balanced, but at the same time nothing much stood up past the hops and slight coffee note.

The carbonation feels just right in my mouth, however, I'm left with a slightly unpleasant dry taste that really detracts from the whole experenience.

Overall, a pretty good beer but nothing memorable about it. Its smooth like a good beer should be and hoppy like a good Am. Porter, but it doesnt go beyond any expectations and there are no surprises. Like I said, its good, and I'd drink it again, but its too bland a porter for me to buy anytime soon.

Poured from 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: nearly black; no light passes through when held up to the light. Two finger nice tan head which leaves a good lace as it dissipates.

Smell: nice aroma with coffee and chocolate well intermingled. There is also a little astringent/tart aroma present of which I'm not a huge fan.

Taste: mocha-ness is not in your face. Again, coffee and chocolate are combined in nice proportions; I'm glad to say the tart quality in the aroma is not nearly as prominent in the flavor. The beer is nicely bitter and what hops are present are earthy in character; there's also a little bitterness imparted by the roast malts.

Mouthfeel: medium body, rather low carbonation. It is rather dry and astringent toward the finish. Not bad, but not my favorite.

Drinkability: a pretty good porter. I'm not a fan of some of the astringent qualities of this beer, so I don't think I would make a session of it, but one or two wouldn't be bad.

I"ve had several Rogues lately and have put this one off for a while. Mocha just doesn't sound right to me. Oh, well.
Pours a rich black with dark brown head, frothy. Nice presentation. Head lingered for a while, stayed a bit. Then faded to film. Nice look though.
Smell is a bit thin. Some coffee and rich chocolate. Anise and dried malt penetrate but not powerful. Black currant and fruits.
Taste is something like a chocolate stout, but without the intensity and hard bite. Sweetness in this brew is limited, mocha not really present. As an American Porter this is great, yet the label is misleading for me, anyway. A slight bite in the end livens it up. A solid porter.

12oz Bottle

Appearance - The beer pours an opaque black/brown colour with a very large frothy light brown coloured head. I can't see much carbonation due the darkness of the beer and there is some very nice lacing running in stages down the sides of the glass. The head lasted for 5 minutes before it began to dissipate.

Smell - chocolate, malts, coffee, hops, smoke

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a large amount of carbonation and most of the taste consists of chocolate, coffee and malts. There is also a surprising amount of hop taste and a smoky aspect as well. The beer finishes with a hoppy/chocolaty aftertaste.

Overall - Not as heavy as some of the other craft porters I've tried which makes is really drinkable. I could actually see this working some what well as a session beer. It would also be a good beer for people that are new to the style. Worth seeking out.

Pours a tan, soapy two-finger head that dies slowly and leaves lace patches on top of an almost black body. Heavy coffee and chocolate malt smells, possibly some roasted malts along with toffee or other sweet malts. Smooth and creamy with a heavy blend of coffee and roasted malts with some chocolate tucked away. Let this beer warm and it becomes even creamier and sweeter. Finishes with a strong, biting dry backbite. I could session this bad boy while watching college football anytime.

A: Poured from a bottle to a pint glass. Had a dark brown color and a thick texture. There was a big, creamy, tan-colored, long-lasting head. Very good lacing.

S: Chocolate dominated the smell, with some malt as well.

T: Tasted of dark chocolate, malt, and a bit of coffee in the finish. A completely solid flavor. One of the better American Porter flavors out there.

M: A well-carbonated beer with a smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: This a good, solid, drinkable beer. If you like chocolate, try this one.

From the 12 fl. oz bottle. Sampled on October 20, 2013.

This pours a handsome looking dark brown to nearly black with this fluffy tan head that really fills up the top of the glass.

The aroma does not express the mocha character much but there are plenty of dark malts and mild earthy hops in it.

The body is full and creamy.

The coffee/mocha rebounds in full fashion once I sip it. I get a lot more of it in the taste than on the nose. Mild sweetness and low bitterness. A nice Porter all in all.

A - A nice deep brown colour. A little bit of head on the our that disappeared almost instantly.

S - Sweet; caramel and coffee. A hint of chocolate.

T - A bit weaker than expected. Definitely hints of coffee and chocolate. A bit of a burnt malt aftertaste. Was expecting more of a chocolate flavour.

M - average carbonation; lighter/thinner than expected.

D - Definitely a drinkable porter. Could have a couple of these no problem.

Pours a murky dark brown with a thin head. Light malt in the aroma with a light touch of cocoa and a bit prickly with carbonation. The taste is dry, somewhat roasty, and fairly lightly flavored. The cocoa- which tastes a bit like Swiss Miss Cocoa Mix- makes an entrance just before the finish and the coffee is only evident at the very end. Mouthfeel seems a bit watery and prickly again. Not all that crisp and not at all creamy. Just okay.
