look: 4.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4

Appearance is dark brown, almost black with a cafe au lait, 2-finger head. Minimal lacing.

The smell is roasted malts with chocolate & coffee hints. The taste is really malty & bitter. The burnt coffee flavor overpowers the dark chocolate. Mouthfeel is moderately thick, slightly carbonated.

This is a drinkable porter, but it really seems more of a coffee porter than mocha.

One outstanding porter here, without a doubt. Pours a huge tan head and you cannot see through the glass as it laces. Better a bit warmer. Smells of roasted nuts, tastes the same, with warming chocolate and toasty coffee. A very dry, smooth finish. Tough to find a better porter out there.

This is one of the few Rogues that I can get in my area and I'm glad about that. This Pours a dark brown/black color with a thin tan head that fades fairly fast, decent amount of lacing down the glass. Smells of roasted malts, chocolate and a little coffee in there also. Taste as it smells with a little Rogue-ish hop flavor in there. Medium to heavy bodied. Very tasty beer.

This is one of the best-looking beers I've ever poured. Black with deep brown hues in the light, the light brown head on this one is impressive and sticky lacing coats the glass.

The smell is malt, coffee and chocolate with an alcoholic tinge.

This one has a nice smoky flavor with that bittersweet dark chocolate and coffee. Some hops leave that well-balanced bitterness on the tongue and you can feel the alcohol.

There is good carbonation in a medium-bodied, smooth and creamy brew. A lingering slightly bitter finish leaves notes of hops with some sweetness on the tongue.

Overall an impressive brew. Not as strong on the coffee as some might like, but a great porter.

look: 3 | smell: 3 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 3.5

An easy pour raises three quarters of an inch of froth that settles quickly to form several islands amid a hazy cloud of a head perched above a dark brown brew barely translucent around the edges.

Sweet roasted "mocha" aroma, hint of vanilla and alcohol, slightly woody.

Bitter dark chocolate, smooth dark roasted coffee, vanilla and a touch of brown sugar flavors.

Starts smooth and clean with fairly light yet consistent carbonation, tongue coating and sticky with a slightly dry finish.

A well made beer with plenty of complexity. Nice hoppy American porter. Probably not for session.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 3.5 | feel: 4 | overall: 4

Poured into a pint glass at 48 degrees

Appearance: A dark dark brown color in the body of this beer. There is a one finger tan head that has some retention to it. The head is foamy and creamy. The clarity of the beer is mostly opaque, except for a few highlights in the bottom of the glass. There is a lot of lacing on the glass.

Nose: A rich toasted malt with a subtle sweetness. There is some caramel and coffee for the aroma. In the background of the beer has a chocolate, fruity esters (not sure what), and creamy note.

Taste: A nice toasted malt with some caramel, coffee, light burnt flavor, and chocolate hints. There is hops in the beer and it is well rounded and placed.

Overall: The mouth feel is medium and a lot of carbonation. The finish is medium to full and slightly bitter. This is a good porter with a nice hoppy touch. To me the beer seemed a bit watered down. I was just looking for more robust flavor in the beer. The beer is good not great though.

I poured this 12oz bottle into a snifter, with generous fluffy, tan head. It started to resemble hot chocolate. Smells of coffee, crema, dark chocolate. Intense coffee or even espresso comes through, with mild chocolatey sweetness. I would actually describe as medium bodied, as a porter. The carbonation is adequate to deliver an oily brew. Very tasty.

A: Let's just say if I waited for the head on this beer to receed I'd be writing this a week from now. Incredible. Looks like a well-done French Souffle'. Carbonation almost cascades like a nitro-keg. Usual nice Rogue lacing along with a very dark colour and we have a fiver in this cat.

S: I'm hoping the massive, foam-toffee head is inhibiting aroma b/c they are very muted here. Still, I can pull some smokiness along with some roasted chocolate.

T: Very, very nice balance between roasted coffe-like malt, dark chocolate, slight smoke, and hop bitterness. A great tasting porter for sure.

M: Carbonation, given how much head is produced is quite mellow. Coffee/hop bitterness for me ( as a dark roast coffee drinker) is bang on. Very smooth.

Oh to be able to live close to the brewery and get this for less than the $8 cdn i have to pay per bomber because it is a very drinkable porter.

Poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: Muddy, dark chocolate body with minimal transparency. Huge 2+ finger, fluffy, tan head on top. Head decays slowly and unevenly, dragging lots of soapy lacing behind it.

Smell: Malt, chocolate flakes, faint mocha, herbs, and piney hops.

Taste: Lots of malt upfront, accompanied by dark chocolate, roasted notes, possibly some dairy, and a generous dosage of bitter, woody, hops. Aftertaste is of roasted malt and hop bitterness. Not getting a whole lot of mocha, but definitely enjoying this one.

Mouthfeel: Cool and creamy with close to a milk-like consistency. Not too heavy, which is nice. Carbonation is right where it should be, and providing some nice excitement on the palate. Finishes oily, a bit chewy, and bitter. Nice.

Drinkability: Hoppier than your average, and better than your average porter. Unique, tasty, and refreshing. I'd have no problem drinking a couple more of these, and I may seek this one out again in the future.

look: 4 | smell: 4 | taste: 4 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 4.5

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Dark brown. Medium light carbonation pours into a 1 finger, brown white, bubbly head. Settles fairly quickly leaving an insulating layer of foam. Leaves some nice beer ring lacing.

S: Dark roasted, bittersweet chocolate malt.

T: Dark roasted coffee, unsweetened chocolate, hearty malt.

M: Robust but has a weightless feel. The flavor coats the palette, and aftertaste disintegrates quickly. Does have a bit of a "musty" aftertaste though.

D: Good flavor and feel makes for really good drinkability.

Really good atmosphere. Nice solid appearance, and simple but healthy nose. Fairly basic, but full flavor, and still light on the palette. Really good quaff.

Nice mahogany to black color, lightly translucent, with a thin head and moderate lacing. The inviting aroma of chocolate comes through as does roasted malt with a hint of coffee. The taste follows the nose having a nice balance between roasted malt and chocolate flavors. Chocolate comes through a bit more on the finish with little aftertaste. Quite smooth. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall, found this beer to be very nicely balanced and easy going down. Could definitely have another.

Reviewed @ home 12/16/08, bottle>dimpled mug
A 4.0 - deep opaque brown color, small frothy head, seems porter appropriate?
S 4.0 - roasty toasty malty notes
T 4.0 - roasty malt on palate, mocha in background, smooth taste
MF 3.5 - medium + body, medium carbonation, crisp finish
D 3.5 - respectable rep of a stout, try it if you like 'em, but not really my type of style

Black. Large, craggy beige head. Good retention that stayed until I finished and some foam splatter lace up top.

Smells of roast malt, dark roast coffee, rogue yeast, and faint bitter dark chocolate.

Tastes bittersweet. Roasted dark malt, coffee, and charcoal comprised the bitter whilst bitter baking chocolate, and burnt nut made up the sweet. The two tastes never really seamed to settle in together and this beer seemed confused as to what it was trying to do. Sour ash aftertaste and a light mouthfeel. The actual mocha aspect of the whole beer was played down which was a suprise; considering the name and all.

Beautiful, deep, black color with very thick creamy head. I really like the head on this beer. Looks like a layer of frosting. Smells of hops. Has a hint of homebrew smell. Rich and oh so yummy. Tastes of hops, roasted barley, and coffee. Smooth beer. Doesn't have the "fullness" feeling as Imperial Stouts or Barleywine Beers, so I am able to drink more of these.

look: 3 | smell: 2.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 2 | overall: 3

Appearance: This beer pours a deep dark brown that borders on black to the enter. There is only a slight light brown head that dissipates to a nice covering film.

Smell: This beer is a bit tight on the nose. It has a faint roasted aroma that hides behind some rich caramel and very slight chocolate notes.

Taste: This beer is forward with a roasted / burnt caramel flavor. It taste slightly of chard meat with, again, an extremely faint chocolate flavor to in the mid palette. The beer finishes with a slight bitter roast aftertaste.

Mouthfeel: This beer is rather medium light to light in body with a medium to medium high carbonation. This overall makes for a beer that seems a bit light for a porter.

Drinkability: The thin nature of this beer makes it easy to drink. I could quaff back quite a few of these with a meal as it tends to feel not overly heavy.

OVERALL IMPRESSION: For a porter I expect something with a more bold mouth feel and flavors. I was disappointed in the nose of this beer as well as its accompanying flavors. The light body, again, does not make this feel light a porter but instead more of a dark brown ale. I think the fact that this beer is dubbed a "Mocha" porter makes it even more disappointing due to the lack of chocolate flavors and aromas. I think this beer would pair nicely with spicy foods, but would not choose it as a stand alone beer to drink. Even with the food pairing at nearly $10.00 a six pack I would spend my money on other porters in the future.

pours an extremely dark black, with a great looking beige head that settles into a nice lacing. nice

smells awesome. lots of roasted malts up front-- bittersweet chocolate with some coffee. i can also smell that delicious signatue rogue smell (pacman yeast again?)

this is one of the best tasting porters i've had in quite some time..richly flavored and full bodied, this bold porter will leave you wanting more and more. great roasted coffee and semi-sweet chocolate malts all over the place, with a nice bite of hops to balance things nicely. well done.

mouthfeel is good....nice clean feeling

drinkability is very very good for a porter. i could have quite a few of these...and I plan on it (i got a 6 pack of 12 ouncers)

overall- this is an awesome porter. yet another masterpiece by rogue. I've had this quite a few times, and I keep buying it more than any other porter. highly recommended.

Served from a bottle to a pint glass.

A - Appearance is like everyone said, dark brown, not translucent. Little to no head, small patches on top, quickly dissipated.

S - Obvious smells of coffee and an almost cocoa like smell.

T- Taste is excellent in my opinion, just the right mix of mocha.

M- Fairly good, a little tingle at the end, maybe could use a little more carbonation.

D- Drinkibility is pretty good, I could drink a few, but not all night.

I would get this again, pretty good porter.

pours a coca-colaish dark but transparent mocha brown. with a thin but nice head that leaves a lacy trail.

Smells intensely of coffee with subtle notes of chocolate and maybe a little dark fruits in the back.

Bitter dark chocolate and coffee are abundant and pleasant. A wee little hops also hits me here and there.

Very light and smooth almost coffeeish for the style instead of the rib sticking heavy experience of many american porters. Its very pleasant beer that I would never turn down.

A - Black pour with a nice fluffy and soft burnt white colored head. Not see-through at all.

S - Definite coffee smell upfront with a chocolate smell lingering in the background. A nice campfire smell.

T - Definetely coffee and chocolate taste. Very delicious and creamy tasting as well. I think the "mocha" title serves this beer correct.

M - Decent mouthfeel, goes down nice and smoothly. Carbonation seems to be on par. Definitely could be a little bit thicker, but not bad!

D - I could drink a few of these buit thats about it.

I am beginning to really enjoy what Rogue has been putting out, and this adds to my list of beers to buy again!

On tap at Bar Louie in Foxborough. Served in a pint glass. Mud brown color. Not much head. Didn't get much from the smell, which surprised me. Taste was good but not great. I sensed some of the mocha there but it seemed very diluted. And the usual porter flavors were not really jumping out either. No real roasted flavors at all. Somewhat thin body also. As far a Rogue beers are concerned, this one falls towards the bottom of my list.

A - Black porterly body with 2 finger off-white head (though light was low). Retention was fantastic, as the head was more stout-like in it's complete foaminess.

S - Wow - chocolate, coffee, roasted, nuts, and definitely more. Smelled like a desert and was a great way to end the night.

T - It's everything you could want in a porter or stout, with a sweet dessert treat flawlessly incorporated into it. You get a dominant chocolate/cocoa presence with some notes of coffee and nuttiness and even some blackberry type flavors coming through. One I need to try again, probably multiple times more, to describe the entire flavor. Want to give a 5 here, but need to try again.

M - Very smooth and medium-thick. Great winter drink. Somewhat sticky, very creamy/buttery on the palate. Lingering roasty bitterness that lasts.

D - Since it's so rich, probably couldn't drink all night. But, having one I really wanted another and will probably pick up a 6-pack in the future.

Whenever I see Rogue 22 oz. bottles, I instinctively reach for the Chocolate Stout. I decided to change things up a bit and get Rogue's Mocha Porter offering out of the Wegman's cooler.

This Mocha Porter pours a dark brown with a dissipating head, leaving behind some lacing. The smell is a little bitter, but has a fitting coffee scent.

The coffee really comes through in the complex taste...bitter but satisfying. Very creamy, smooth mouthfeel. Drinkability is there, but I wouldn't go putting down too many of these babies at once.

Overall, very satisfied with Rogue's Mocha Porter.

6 pack, from Brown Derby in Springfield, Brandee's choice, plus it is $21 for 6 in Calgary.
Poured dark, basically black, with chocolate milk brown foam. Very good head retention, and thick sheets of lace. Smell is malty, with some semi-sweet chocolate. Taste is slightly sweet with coffee and cocoa, has a nice hopped finish that keeps things balanced. Mouthfeel could be a bit fuller, but is not a fault. A top flight flavored porter.
