This is a great porter for a crisp autumn night. Pours with a lovely dark chocolate hue and a coffee colored head. The taste is a great mix of chocolate, espresso, and barley. The carbonation level is a little on the high side, but tis a minor quibble. Cheers!

Poured from a bottle into a dokel

A: pours dark and opaque with a two finger tan head.
S: very malty, DArk roasted barley, almost burnt
with a hint of coffee
T: tastes of chocolate an malt. fades to a very rich hoppy bitterness.
M: almost too carbonated, once the carbonation is aggravated the taste comes out further.
D: all around a decent Porter not my favorite but it certainly exhibits the name.

A: very dark brown that is borderline black. Creamy looking tan head that dissolves quickly.

S: it's hard to pick out much more than roasted malt and coffee scents.

T: coffee upfront with roasted malts and a bitter coffee/chocolate finish. I was surprised that it wasn't as chocolaty as I assumed from the title. I would have just called it coffee porter and let the drinker assume it has chocolate qualities as one expects a chocolate stout to contain hints of coffee.

Overall it was a little thin for me but that made for a highly drinkable beer that looks and tastes great. Always impressed by Rogue.

Enjoyed a bottle of this at Nashville's Mellow Mushroom with a "White" pizza. This beer smells amaizing with coffee and chocolate dominating your sniffer. It had a small to non-existent head. Very dark. Honestly it had almost too much flavor - and it was more bitter than sweet and my beer tooth leans on the sweet side. Also, I prefer a creamery beer and the mouth feel on this brew was much lighter. If you are looking for something that packs the flavor this is the beer for you.

Drank from a 12 fl. oz. bottle purchased at Colonial Spirits, Acton, MA

Poured a translucent, dark mahogany with a one-finger, foamy, mocha colored head. The head faded to a substantial film with a thick ring of lace.

Smell was exceptional. Intense, sweet, light chocolate with hints of vanilla. Very smooth. Some sweet cream/lactose also detectable.

Taste was rich and full as well yet not quite as sweet as the aromas. Malty (roasted malts) and coffee-like initially, as well as a bit smoky. Some dark chocolate was noticeable later along with some hoppy dryness. The aftertaste was quite hoppy as well and resonated long after the beer was done.

Mouthfeel was a bit thinner than expected but still decent.

Drinkability was quite good. This was a very pleasant, well balanced, easy drinking, after dinner/dessert porter.

appearance - 4.0 - this is good looking beer, dark brown almost black, barely any head with basically no lacing.

smell - 4.25 - this beer smells like coffee, with a hint of chocolate, vanilla beans, roasted malt

taste - 4.25- this beer tastes like coffee, basically like if you mixed A mocha latte and a stout, coffee beans, espresso, dark Malts, roasted malts, vanilla, creamy milk

mouth feel - 4.25 - light mouth feel for a stout with medium-heavy carbonation, leaves a roasty coffee aftertaste which is light.

overall - 4.0 - a good moCha stout but more with respect to the English idea of what a stout is. Somewhat weak, one dimensional, and lacking a wow factor .

Poured into a Duvel tulip. Pretty much an opaque black, maybe letting the faintest amount of light through. Small beige and khaki head that leaves little lacing.
Nose is pleasant-- big dose of chocolate that dominates over the coffee and roasted malt. Getting funny whiffs of marijuana as it warms.
Taste has decent piney bitterness that's complemented by the coffee and dark roasted malt. Milk chocolate rounds it all out a nice crisp finish.
A bit thin, decent carbonation silky/creamy body.
This would make for a great session porter if that's what you're looking for.

Presentation: Poured from a 22oz brown bomber into an Imperial pint glass. The paint-on label lists describes the beer as "ruddy-brown in color, a bittersweet balance of malt and hops, yet a surpisingly light and refreshing taste." Specs: 13 degrees Plato, 54.51 IBU, 73 AA, and 77 degrees L.

Appearance: Pours with a nice, 1 inch, creamy, tan head. This falls to just the thinnest of coatings. The beer itself is opaque and red-tinged around the edges.

Smell: Roasted malt with baker's/dark chocolate undertones. Slight sweetness.

Taste: What this beer lacks in smell, it makes up for in flavor. A decent level of bitterness upfront, followed by a lingering, mouth-filling, chocolate flavor. Not milk choclate, but a bitter dark chocolate flavor that blends well with the hop bitterness.

Mouthfeel: Average to slightly less than average carbonation. Decent body.

Drinkability; Much like the label says, a hoppy and flavorful drink that is still very drinkable. This one has been hard to find around, I'll have to pick up a few more bombers next time I stumble across it.

Pours a very dark brown with slight ruby hints around the edges, with a tight medium tan head that is moderately slow to dissipate and leaves some lacing. Smell is strong, with plenty of coffee and chocolate, and slight notes of caramel and roasted malts, with an interesting piney hop tone as well. Taste is bold coffee, with some bitter chocolate and hops filling out the profile. A little heavy on the coffee side, but still pretty well balanced. Mouthfeel is a shade thin, but still very nice, and drinkability is good. Great porter, with the classic Rogue feel.

A seriously dense and opaque pour, deep tan foam billows to the top of the glass. Looks thick like a stout. Earthy aroma of roasted malt.

Initial taste brings chocolate, dark malt, and a residual bitterness over the palette. The mildly bitter aftertaste has more of a chocolaty quality, so it's hard to pick out if it comes from the addition of hops or coffee. There's also a stout-like fullness in the mouth, but just to a moderate degree. Silky smooth, it whispers across the lips. More, please!

It's autumn, and my love affair with the porter has officially been re-kindled.

pours an extremely dark black, with a great looking beige head that settles into a nice lacing. nice

smells awesome. lots of roasted malts up front-- bittersweet chocolate with some coffee. i can also smell that delicious signatue rogue smell (pacman yeast again?)

this is one of the best tasting porters i've had in quite some time..richly flavored and full bodied, this bold porter will leave you wanting more and more. great roasted coffee and semi-sweet chocolate malts all over the place, with a nice bite of hops to balance things nicely. well done.

mouthfeel is good....nice clean feeling

drinkability is very very good for a porter. i could have quite a few of these...and I plan on it (i got a 6 pack of 12 ouncers)

overall- this is an awesome porter. yet another masterpiece by rogue. I've had this quite a few times, and I keep buying it more than any other porter. highly recommended.

A - Black pour with a nice fluffy and soft burnt white colored head. Not see-through at all.

S - Definite coffee smell upfront with a chocolate smell lingering in the background. A nice campfire smell.

T - Definetely coffee and chocolate taste. Very delicious and creamy tasting as well. I think the "mocha" title serves this beer correct.

M - Decent mouthfeel, goes down nice and smoothly. Carbonation seems to be on par. Definitely could be a little bit thicker, but not bad!

D - I could drink a few of these buit thats about it.

I am beginning to really enjoy what Rogue has been putting out, and this adds to my list of beers to buy again!

Poured a dark, dark brown (almost black) with a thick frothy tan head. Has a very nice aroma with coffee, chocolate, and caramel scents all melding together nicely. The taste is similar with a creamy sweet caramel taste followed by coffee and chocolate to finish. Very good sipping beer, especially on a cold night. This could almost be considered a light stout beer if it had just a little more body.

Just about black with a creamy light tan head that starts at about two fingers and settles down to about a quarter of that.
Quite a nice aroma, dominated by coffee-like scents of roasted malt. In the mouth, this beer is quite chewy and full bodied, amooth and creamy malt flavors, with a bitter, burnt aftertaste. A very decent beer.

Brown and thick on the opening head. Hints of coffee and chocolate on emitted from the chalice of goodness. Awsome rich flavor. Kinda coffeeish, kinda chocolaty, mostly porterish. Once again, Rogue has a great beer at my fingertips.

APPEARANCE: Poured almost more of a dark brown than a black in color with an off-white head. The head, by the way, was pretty solid for a porter. Decent lacing on the sides of the glass, but not much on the front or back.

SMELL: Mocha Porter is certainly the right name for this brew if the smell has anything to do with it. Strong smell of coffee beans and some woodiness as well.

TASTE: The chocolate part of the Mocha was not really present in the aroma, but it certainly is in the taste. In fact, it pushes the coffee flavor out of the way to dominate early in the sip, but the coffee fights back towards the end to help provide a nice, bitter finish. The woodiness of the nose translates into a smoky taste throughout the sip. I should also note that this is the first time I’ve had this beer poured into a glass. I served it at my old job and if I drank it, I drank it straight out of the bottle. I have to say the flavor is certainly enhanced by the aroma, using some glassware for this beer makes a big difference and it is more full and robust than it is straight from the bottle.

MOUTHFEEL: Smooth, but with a touch of carbonation. It is a bit oily, but also dry and not mouthcoating in the least.

OVERALL: I am very happy I tried this beer in a pint glass rather than straight out of the bottle. It isn’t terribly exciting until you allow it to open up and let it let you take the aroma in. At that point it becomes a very strong, year-round standard for Rogue.

The beer is pitch black with a nice centimeter for its head. The head stays really well. There isn't much nose in this beer, but it has some hints of chocolate and sweetness. When drinking the beer the coffee/chocolate malts come out with the chocolate out staying everything else. The chocolate coffee mix is quite nice because it has more chocolate than coffee. A sweetness does pop in there quite a bit, maybe a bit of licorice? The mouthfeel is creamy and a bit thick. This beer is pretty drinkable.

Poured into a pint glass.

A: Nice dark brown, deep and rich, the way a good porter should look. Big head on this thing, but it's possible it was from the bottle (I fumbled it a little taking it out of the fridge). Anyway, the head recedes nicely to a thin light tan color with great retention on the sides of the glass.

S: Smells of coffee...unsurprising. It smells great. There's a good balance of aromas between dark-beer-scent and coffee-scent.

T: Pretty damn good. I find that sometimes porters lose too much of the true beer flavor when infused like this, but Rogue keeps a great balance. The taste is actually initially porter, dark and malty. As that flavor recedes, the roasted-ness of the malts cedes to a roasted coffee flavor, which then brings a wonderful sweetness along with it. The first few sips tasted more like a coffee porter, but as the beer continued, the sweetness of mocha revealed itself.

M: Again, no complaints. It's not the thick oil of a stout, but it certainly has a character of its own. The aftertaste is the most prevalent feature, as the subtle sweetness remains on the tongue for a pleasant feeling.

O: Nothing bad to say about this beer. It didn't blow my socks off, but I have nothing negative to say. Nice job, Rogue.

served in a Heffe glass cause that's all that was clean... but it looked beautiful with all that extra head space!!! Dark brown nearly black color with almost 2 in of head that dissipates to a nice 1/2 in thick layer of frothy foam with lots and lots of lace.

chocolate malt with maybe a slight yeast profile... can't put my finger on it but finishes with light coffee and no noticeable hops. smell is very good in my opinion.

bitter chocolate and then malt right away. hops bring more to balance after malt flavor. light coffee taste but very faint possibly from the smell more than the flavor. pretty good

full bodied but not extreme thickness like some porters.

Overall very happy with the beer i will continue to enjoy it on a regular basis.

Serving - Bottle

A - Very dark, head around 1 finger, some minor lacing but it doesn't stay, looks how a porter should

S - Rich coffee aroma mixed with chocolate, also smells a bit hoppy

T - Starts out with a nice chocolate and malty taste. Also can taste the coffee, its strong but not overwhelming. The after taste is a bitter mocha taste, but not unpleasant if you like coffee flavoring

M - Very smooth and pleasant

O - It is exactly whats advertised, if you want a good mocha porter look no further. If your not big on coffee and porters this is one to avoid. I like both things and thought this was a solid brew

Mocha Porter pours a dark brown with very little head from a brown twelve ounce bottle. The aroma is pretty hoppy, particularly for a porter, chocolate and coffee notes are also present. Taste is very enjoyable, nice mix of hops with coffee and chocolate flavors. Always nice to revisit this one. Recommended.
