Pouring into the glass, it is a nice, extremely dark colored porter with a light caramel colored head. Very smooth smelling with a hint of mocha. The taste is not much differemt. It is a very smooth porter with the hint of chocolate and coffe flavors. These mocha flavors really add to the underlying porter and enhance it even more. The lesser intense carbonation really helps the flavor and it is really smooth going down. If it wasn't so heavy, I could drink it all day.

Pours a deep dark black with a tan head that sits there quite a while.
Has a light chocolate caramel aroma to it.
Full and creamy on the palate, with lively carbonation. Has a mixture of chocolate, coffee and caramel taste to it. Very creamy.
This is a pretty good porter, but didn't surprise me with anything I haven't tasted before. Maybe a little too much carbonation for me.

A: Murky brown, almost black, color. Tan head of 2 fingers, stays solid and laces beautifully. One of the best looking beers I've tried.

S: Very strong roasted coffee malt smell with a background of flowering hops and chocolate. A little skunky, but otherwise perfect.

T: Oh man, this is a delicious beer. Very sweet beginning with chocolate and coffee flavors dominant. Alcohol is undetectable. Second flavor is flowering hops, which are very good and consistent throughout the Rogue Brewery beers. There is coffee bitterness all throughout the aftertaste, but the chocolate sticks around as well. Slight breadyness in the end as well. Perfect.

M: Medium-heavy bodied. Slightly astringent, but not anything to complain about - it goes well with the coffee bitterness. Almost too carbonated for my taste, but still great.

D: I've already drank half of this, which is rare for me when I'm finishing a review. I could easily drink 2 or 3 of these in a sitting.

Poured from the bottle into an imperial pint glass. Black body with a nice bubbly head. No lace.

Aroma is big an intense. Bakers chocolate, sweet cream. Excellent nose to this beer.

Flavor meets the billing quite accurately. Bitter coffee and dark chocolate. Hints of hopping, nicely balanced.

Deep, deep brown color. Almost black. Opaque. Powerful brown head of two fingers that persists.

Strong chocolate caramel aroma. Coffee-bean like. Deep, rich, very nice.

Very strong, deep chocolate flavor. Bitterness is apparent. Coffee, burnt, rich, powerful.

A bit thin for a porter. Carbonation is also a bit too high. Not bad, but I was expecting more.

For this style, I would say it is drinkable, but not highly drinkable. the taste forces you to drink very slowly. Hardy.

Overall I like this one. The taste stands out, but it lacks somewhat in other areas.

Just past mahogany, very nearly black if not for some brownish red highlights. Large brown head is very tight, with nice pitting and great retention. Lots of brown lace.

Pine hop aromas, with plenty of cocoa and roasted malt as well. The bitter flavor works very nicely with the chocolate malt, lightly sweetened, and then finishes quite dry with notes of roast and cocoa.

Impressive chocolate themed beer, Rogue's trademark hopping leaves it a cut above the rest. Enjoy at cellar/room temperature to really let the flavors emerge. Great for a cafe or pub.

From a 12 ounce bottle into a pint glass, on to the beer:

It's deep black in color with a big head that slowly drops. Smell of mocha in the beer's aroma. Very interesting, I thought I'd get something sweeter, and instead I got a coffee shop in my glass. Coffee, smoke, moderate roasted flavor, and of course subtle mocha. The bitterness on this brew is very mild, which won't hold back the drinkability. Nicely done.

Took one of my dad's 12 ounce bottles from his six pack, sorry pops

Pour was very dark brown with an off white head about a half inch high

Smell was strictly coffee beans

Taste was deep and had a nice smokiness to go along with the java

Very drinkable for a porter, most dark beers are real heavy, but not this one

Last trip to the liquor store I was searching for some coffee influenced porters and stouts and came across this one.

Pours a very dark brown almost black with a thick creamy brown head. Very impressive head retention and creamy quality. Thick rings of lacing are left to the bottom of my glass.

This one smells fairly hoppy with a faint chocolate malt background. This smells similar to Sierra Nevada's stout, but with greater emphasis on hops.

Tastes too hoppy to begin with, but allowing this to warm up opens a wonderful bouquet of flavours. Starts out tasting chocolatey and moves into a roasted coffee flavour that gives way to a dry bitter hop finish. Very well rounded and balanced.

Mouthfeel is creamy and fairly full bodied given the 5.30% abv. Highly drinkable and enjoyable as the weather cools.

Poured very dark, no light passing through at all. Starts out with a a caramel-tan head that thins out as it laces down the glass but stays enough to cover the body.

Smells malty with strong hints of chocolate and citrus, like bergamot. Not much coffee smell to it.

Has a very dark malty taste to it, similar to some Black Bavarian beers out there. Noticable citrus taste under a bitter dark chocolate. Almost like drinking a cup of earl grey after eating dark unsweetened chocolate. Leaves a strong aftertaste.

As dark as it is, it has a pretty thin feel to it. Mine had a higer carbonation to it. I was expecting a beer that needed a knife and fork to get through it by the first impression.

Very good beer, have to be in the mood for a dark complex beer that leaves a strong aftertaste in your mouth.

Pours a deep brown/black with a nice sized long lasting rocky tan head that leaves lacing on the surface and sides. Nice fresh aroma. A lot of west coast citrusy hops in the nose. Taste is dark roasted chocolate malt with some coffee notes. Surprisingly, given the name of this beer, the coffee flavor isn't all that strong. Significant citrus hops. Nicely balanced. Medium mouthfeel. Not too heavy. Fairly drinkable. Pretty good porter overall.

I feel that this is the weaker of the dark Rogue beers ( Shakes stout et al). The depth of flavour was not there and the mouthfeel lacked that real bigness that the chocolate stout had. It is a decent beer but not one of Rogue's best. A bigger flavour would be appreciated in this style>

22 oz bottle pours a dark brown body with a large light brown head. Lots of lacing on this one. Aroma is mostly chocolate, with hints of pine hops and coffee. Medium body is well carbonated. Taste is chocolate, mild coffee, some bitter dark roast, pine cone hoppiness, and a pleasant vague fruitiness that seems like red apples. Nicely balanced and very drinkable.

Serving Type: Standard 12 oz bottle

Appearance: Pours a lovely almost black beer where no light can shine through. A dark tan head that leaves to quickly and has almost no lacing

Smell: Maybe it's just this particular one that I have but I find that the smell is rather tame. Some Porters you can easily pick up the different traces spread throughout the beer but this one it takes a bit to get a good smell. I get a faint dark chocolate w/ roasted coffee.

Taste: Has a chocolate taste that is almost overpowered by the roasted coffee taste. A light molasses taste lingers throughout the end of the drink. The balance of the 3 flavours seems a little off as the beer is a bit bitter than what I expected from smelling it. The roasted coffee comes across really strong compared to the chocolate

Mouthfeel: Smooth yet a little thick. It lingers in the mouth w/ a dry feeling

Drinkability: A enjoyable dark porter that is a touch bitter but not altogether what I was expecting. The bitterness overshadows any expectations you may have from the name of the beer

The Mocha porter pours a black as night with a head that stays only for a second or two.

The aroma of the porter is of chocolate and roasted malts.

The taste is real smooth and is balanced of chocolate, coffee and the roasted malts. Overall a refreshing porter either on a hot summer day or a lonely cold one in the winter.

Pours a dark black color with a decent brown head. Aroma is rich and roasty with coffee undertones. Taste is much of the same except that the coffee kind of falls flat within the taste. It's very much a porter still. Coffee goes well with dark beers and this is just proof of that. I like it.

Pour a solid black color with a tan head. Aromas of caramel, coffee, and chocolate. A bit of the same in taste, caramel, coffee, and chocolate, in that order. A sweet dry aftertaste lingers for a couple of minutes. Big flavor, good for a dessert beer.

This was a good refreshing porter- nice dark pour with some sharp aromas- dark coffee beans, espresso, some bittersweet chocolate. Decent flavors, not as promising as the aromas but there- very dry dark cocolate and coffee flavors mingle with an almost sour character- like a gritty unripe grapeskin. Nice and clean but somewhat unrefined. Some mineral flavors in the aftertaste but nothing too detracting from the rest. Very decent brew, wish i could try it fresh on tap.

A - Dark black pour with highlights of red to the light and a fluffy, large pillowy tan head. Head retention was pretty good and then it laced nicely down the glass

S - Smell was of roasted malts and chocolate and of course mocha
had a good strong nose to it

T/M - Mouth was full and smooth with just the right amount of carbonation, taste was rich and full with a slight bite up front from the hops quickly mellowing into the signature mocha flavors with a finish of chocolate and fruitiness

D - I certainly could put back several of these in any given session and actually had several last night. A great beer for a night's relaxation.

Pours a nice soft head that leaves a sticky lacing behind and a head that thins out, but doesn't stop covering the top of the beer. The color is black with a slight amount of light coming through the edges in an amber brown color. Smell has some chocolate tones of a good porter. The taste is heavy coffee with some good bitter tones that seems to match up with the hops. Mouthfeel is well carbonated leaving a little bite on the tongue. Overall this will be something I drink more of, very enjoyable.

This beer is deep black with a head the color of a chocolate malted. Smells a little bit roasted and a little like some good coffee. The taste is chocolate and dark, but not too strong. This is one of the first Rogue beers I really like and I didn't really taste the "Rogue" flavor I get from most of their beers.

Dark black, lots of carbonation bubbles, huge sudsy/creamy cocoa head, beautiful.
The mocha aroma comes through right off the bat, followed by toasty malts.
Liquid chocolate burnt toast with just the right amount of hop balance.
Thick tongue coating with the fantastic cocoa-malt flavor lingering. The carbonation expands the flavors through the nose.
Very drinkable but the mocha, which adds so much to the flavor, might become tiresome after a while.
Great beer!
