Comes out of the tap a hazy honey golden with a fluffy off-white head. Aroma has a strong honey-sweet overtone of honey with a malty core and a hoppy hint. Flavor is mainly honey with a malty note and a whisper of butterscotch. Smooth texture is fairly thick and subtly tingly. Not Rogue’s best, but worthy of a try!

A - A hazy, dark copper body, topped by a small white head. The foam settles at a moderate pace, and leaves little lace.

S - Malty with some nutty toffee and light, herbal hops.

T - Sweet, bready malt with fruity orange-flavored hops up front. Spicy hop flavor in the middle with biscuit notes and some caramel. Finishes with more caramel and fruity hops, with strong bitterness acting as a counterpoint.

M - Medium body, moderate carbonation, and a balanced finish.

D - Spicy hops are the dominant characteristic in this beer though there is a significant malt backbone to support the herbal character. Not a bad beer, though it didn't really get me excited. It suffers from the harshness of hop character that sometimes plagues Rogue beers and the malt, while thick, just isn't that complex.

had this at the huge kickbacks dinner in Jacksonville, FL. I took some notes but mostly doing this from memory.
Appearance: dark reddish complexion. low head retention
Smell: roasty malts
Taste: it tased like a strong red ale. roasted caramel malts. The rep told us... This was dedicated to the memory of glen hay. It was also released as a aniversry release.

Served on tap into a goblet at Aces & Ales, Las Vegas, NV.

A - Color is a brilliant, deep copper to red. The tiny head is off white and mostly just a ring around glass. No carbonation is evident visually.

S - Aroma has some malt, along with a little fruiy hops. Aroma is very muted, which seems surprising given the rich color.

T - Well balanced taste. Mixes malt, fruity hops and moderate hop bitterness with some alcohol and even a little yeast character. As it warms I even get a tiny bit of cherry.

M - Light body, a bit of carbonation fizz.

D - This beer was very well balanced and enjoyable. It hides its alcohol level very well, but still leaves you satisfied and happy.

Appearance: Clear, darkened copper body with a half inch-high, frothy, white head with admirable retention.

Smell: Opens with citrusy hops, notes of floral-scented hand soap, and backed by delicately sweetish toffee-brushed biscuits.

Taste: Pale malts with some additional hints of toasted biscuits and toffee. Medium level of clean malt sweetness. The taste, as is the case with the majority of Rogue products, is centered around the hops. Largely tasting of white grapefruit but also some underlying earthy, floral tones to it as well. Moderate bitterness. Finish is drying and bittersweet.

Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium carbonation. Modest creaminess to the mouthfeel.

Drinkability: A good, smooth beer that remains fairly drinkable considering the ABV percentage. Pleasant choice to close out a round of Team Trivia at Summits.

On tap at Rogue PDX 11/12 $5.00 pint with Rogue Nation card.
Deep amber, one finger white head, nice lacing. Bready malts, pretty citrusy nose and taste. Pretty dry bitter finish. Decent mouthfeel, not overly carbonated. Fairly complex use of hops which aren't overpowering, a pretty balanced brew. A fairly hoppy interpretation of the style.

on tap at Rattle n Hum while in laws are checking out the empire state building.

A- pours a slightly hazy bronzey orange with a thin skim of bubbles and mild lacing.

S- Low aroma, but a little floral perfumy hops and a touch of malt sweetness.

T- Floral hops with a metallic sweet toffe malty flavor. A touch of pine sets in, but that bitter metallic flavor dominates.

M- Light and thin, low carb....ho-hum.

D- Nah. I'll finish this one, but before I do I am already thinking about my next beer. That metallic bitterness relly turned me off.

This is the 2008 release of Glen, I didn't see the point of starting another review thread. Served in straight pint glass. Poured a hazy orangeish-amber color with an inch of off-white head that quickly dissipated a light amount of lacing.

A balanced, neutral aroma has a hint of hop spicieness at the end. The flavor has a richer malt taste than the aroma led me to expect, there is nice hop kick to even out the maltiness.

Decent body, lighter than I expect from a Strong Ale. Drinkability is nice, although I can see myself getting bored after a couple of these.

Strong Ale is kind of a catch-all style that doesn't seem to have a clearly defined set of parameters. With that in mind, I would have rated this higher if I were considering it an Imerial Pale Ale, or even an IPA perhaps. A good, solid beer, worth seeking out.

Poured from tap at Rogue SF
Not sure of it was 2007 or a newer.
Poured a light copper color with a small white head. Nose is like an IPA style with lots of hops, some pininess and floral notes. Taste is goood. Hoppy, floral with anice ABV. There was a taste note I could not put my finger on but it was pretty obvious. Very drinkable and a good brew.

On-tap at the drafting room. Glen has a dark golden appearence with a off white head with minimal stick. Smells of apparent grain with west coast hops and a malt bill giving off caramel. Taste of citrus with the usual tropical fruits but subdued from the malt bill giving a bready taste as well. This borders on IPA and a strong ale. Mouthfeel is medium and crisp. I could of drank another but I was driving.

On draft at The Blind Tiger, NYC.

Poured a dark copper hue with a one finger foamy white head. There was good retention and lacing.

The smell featured an herbal hop and a grainy malt.

The taste was full blown herbal hops that lasted throughout the experience. Moderate malt backbone as well.

The mouthfeel was toward the thinner side of the style with a lingering hop.

Overall a tasty ale.

On tap at the Irish pub in Peoria, Illinois.

Pours very dark, more blood red than ruby, almost opaque from haze and topped with a indefatigable brown head. The balance between west coast hops and thick, syrupy pale malt is perfect in spite of the brew's intensity, though it seems to veer more towards the bitter end, for a Rogue, since their trademark yeast is barely present.

A strong ale in the vein of Arrogant Bastard. While it's not quite as ostentatious as Stone's brew, it's arguably more balanced and drinkable. Rogue's locker stocks are almost infuriating, they're so good and so rare.
